Welcome to the BTPD’s new Winter/Spring 2023 brochure. We want to take this opportunity to wish everyone a joyous and safe Holiday Season. As hope springs eternal, we look forward to a fresh new year with renewed optimism and unbridled enthusiasm. While certainly adhering to our mission of enriching the quality of life through recreation, education, and preservation, BTPD continues to be a diamond-level park district. In the winter brochure, you will see a lot of new exhilarating and stimulating programs, along with some of our favorites, which will pique the interest of all park patrons.
BTPD is adding bilingual classes to its Adult programming. There will be Spanish Conversation Clubs on the first and third Mondays of each month. Dr. Michael Burke, Recreational Supervisor, will take you on a culinary adventure with our Taste of Spain Cooking class. These first-rate programs can be found on page 21.
In 2023, we will be constructing a Ninja Challenge Obstacle Course. The only course of its kind in Kankakee County will be located in Perry Farm Park. The 9-course obstacle will challenge any outdoor enthusiasts and provide ample and unique opportunities for our teens and adults for supplementary physical and mental fitness prospects.
In February, Sweetheart Dance returns to the Recreation Station on Saturday, February 11. Celebrate Valentine’s Day by bringing your special little one for dancing, refreshments, and
more. Another fan-favorite February event is the Chocolate Tour. This event sells out each year and is one of the sweetest tickets in the area. You will find more information on this and other events on pages 16 & 17.
BTPD trips returned in 2022, and we are continuing that Spring momentum in 2023. As such, we are bringing back the dining trip known as Dine & Dash! Our participants will travel to Wisconsin to the Fireside Inn and Michigan for Tulip Time. Additionally, we are even making a memorable trip to Galena for a long weekend trip! More information can be found on pages 18-20.
We sincerely hope that you avail yourself of the exciting, resourceful programs and events we have presented for Spring 2023 and that you continue to enjoy our beautiful Perry Farm and other recreational and educational opportunities of the BTPD.
As they say, “Spring: a lovely reminder of how beautiful change can truly be.”

Join us on a culinary adventure as we explore the world as described by Ernest Hemingway through food and drink! Have you ever wondered how Spanish cuisine differs from other Spanish-speaking nations? Here’s your chance to learn how to prepare three delicious recipes typical of various regions of Spain! Over the course of 2 hours, we will make authentic gazpacho, tortilla Espanola, and sangria. For fun, the instructor will include some terms and explanations in Spanish; however, speaking Spanish is not necessary to enjoy this program! Time permitting, we may even fry up churros with chocolate for dessert. So bring your appetite, curiosity, and willingness to try new things! This program is guaranteed to be a memorable experience or, as they say, “Una experiencia inolvidable”! All materials are included in the registration fee, and sangria will be made with and without alcohol.
