BSU COACHES Mike Curfman Head Coach Mike Curfman became the ninth head coach in Bemidji State University women’s basketball program history when he was hired in the summer of 2005. He is in his sixth season pacing the Bemidji State sidelines and his 11th season overall as a head coach. Under Curfman’s direction, there has been a positive upswing in BSU women’s basketball, as the 06-07 season was the best in the past 11 years for the Beavers. Curfman brings a basketball resume which includes 16 seasons of collegiate coaching experience including 11 as a head coach and a total of twelve seasons within the NSIC. Previous to BSU, he spent six years guiding the University of Minnesota-Crookston women’s basketball program. Previous to taking over the UMC program, Curfman was an assistant coach at St. Cloud State University (1994-99), serving as Dr. Lori Ulferts’ top assistant for five seasons. He also coached under Dr. Ulferts at Moorhead State University (1992-94) as an assistant while serving as the head coach of the junior varsity team. He has presented at a number of camps and clinics and is a member of the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) and the Minnesota State High School League Coaches Association. Curfman has a wife Michelle, a son Caleb and a daughter Emily.

Mark Bagaason Assitant Coach Assistant Coach, Mark Bagaason, is in his first year at Bemidji State. He also serves as Head Women’s Golf Coach at BSU. Before coming to BSU, Bagaason was in the high school ranks, with 25 years experience at Clearbrook-Gonvick School and Red Lake County Central School in northern Minnesota. He also taught 5th grade at both schools. On the basketball court, Bagaason played at the University of Minnesota Crookston when it was a two-year institution, and Jamestown College in North Dakota. Bagaason is a member of both Athletic Hall of Fames for the sport of basketball. Bagaason is also the director of the “Shoot-the-Rock” Basketball Camp. This is the 25th year of the camp that has been at various schools throughout the upper Midwest. Bagaason and his wife, Pam, reside in Clearbrook. They have two daughters, Kayla and Cassie. Kayla played collegiately at the University of North Dakota from 2005-2010. She was named the Great West Conference Player of the Year in 2010.
