Bemidji State Hockey Game 14 - North Dakota at Bemidji State Sanford Center • Bemidji, Minn. • November 20, 2011 • 5:07 p.m. Bemidji State notables: uBemidji State dropped a 5-2 game to North Dakota last night. Five different Beavers logged their names in the scoring column with Brance Orban and Shea Walters accounting for BSU’s goals. With the loss, BSU’s record dips to 4-8-1 overall and 2-6-1 in WCHA play. uLast night’s loss marked a continuation in UND’s dominance in the all-time series between the teams. BSU has now dropped 14 consecutive games to the Fighting Sioux, have not defeated North Dakota since Feb. 7, 1970 and are 1-22-1 all-time. uShea Walter’s third-period goal stands as his sixth of the season--a new single-season career-high. He is now tied with Jordan George for the team’s lead in goals scored and has netted six of his career 14 goals in the first 13 games of the 2011-12 season. uOut shot 36-25 last night, BSU has been out shot in 10 of its 13 games this season. BSU now trails its opponents in shots on goal 411-308, which includes a 310-216 differential in nine WCHA games. BSU is now 1-8-1 when being out shot, 2-0-0 when out shooting its opponent and 1-0-0 when shots are even. uThe Beavers have played seven games since last recording 30 shots on goal. BSU is averaging 23.69 shots on goal per game this season, while its opponents’ have put up an average of 31.62. uBrady Wacker logged an assists last night on BSU’s second goal. The junior blueliner has a goal and an assist in BSU’s last three games and totals of 1-2=3 through 13 games. uBrad Hunt remains just four points shy of the 100-point plateau. With 21-75=96 points, the senior captain is tied for seventh with BSU great Mike Gibbons (27-69--96) (1975-79) on BSU’s all-time defenseman scoring list. Only five defenders in the history of the program have gone over the 100-point plateau. The last was Jude Boulianne Jr. (1991-95). uWith 75 assists during his career, Brad Hunt sits just three helpers from matching former teammate Matt Read (2007-11) for BSU’s Division I-era assists record. uBSU took the lead early last night, but it would last only 4:38 and the Beavers would never regain an edge. Through 13 games, the Beavers have trailed in all but a 3-2 victory at Lake Superior State Nov. 4. In 789:19 minutes of play this season, BSU has had the lead for just 137:30 (17%) and 41:16 of lead time came in a 6-5 victory over Michigan Tech Oct. 21. uIn BSU’s last five meetings with North Dakota, UND has scored five goals in each game and won four games by the score of 5-2. In the 24-game series, UND has averaged 4.67 goals per game to BUS’s 2.29. uBSU was 0-for-2 on the power-play last night. BSU’s last power-play goal came Oct. 22 (seven games)--a streak spanning 19 man advantage opportunities. BSU is 7-for-42 (.167) on the power-play this season and 6-for-31 (.194) to rank seventh in WCHA play. uBSU has played 450:25 since it last scored a power-play goal--the longest span of time without a goal on the man advantage since making the move to the Division I level for the 1999-2000 season. uThe Beavers are 2-2-1 at home this season, but look for their first-ever victory over North Dakota on home ice. BSU is 0-8-0 versus UND in Bemidji and 0-3-0 versus UND at Sanford Center. uThe Bemidji State penalty-kill unit allowed two power-play goals for the first time since Miami (Ohio) scored two goals on six man advantage opportunities Oct. 7--the Beavers’ first game of the season. UND was 2-for-4 last night. BSU is now 45-of-56 (.804) on the season, which includes snuffing out 31-of-38 (.816) in WCHA play to rank fourth in the league. uJordan George (6-2=8) was held without a point last night marking the second consecutive game the junior has been held scoreless. During his 87-game collegiate career, he has never gone three straight games without a point. He leads all current Beavers with three goals in five games versus UND. uBrance Orban was back in he scoring mix last night after failing to record a point in the Beavers’ last two games. Orban opened the season netting 2-5=7 points in the Beavers first five games. He has just a goal and an assist in BSU’s last seven games. He is third on the team with 3-6=9 points.
