Bemidji State Hockey Game 8 - Bemidji State at (15) Minnesota Duluth AMSOIL Arena • Duluth, Minn. • October 29, 2011 • 7:07 p.m. Bemidji State notables: uBemidji State dropped the front end of its WCHA series versus No. 15 Minnesota Duluth last night 6-2 in its first visit to AMSOIL Arena. Five different Beavers logged their names in the scoring column with Brad Hunt and Jordan George accounting for the BSU goals. The Bulldogs snapped BSU’s wining streak at two games as the Beavers fall to 3-4-0 overall and 2-3-0 on WCHA play. uLast night’s loss in regulation marked the first time a head-to-head match up between BSU and UMD was settled without extra time since a 4-1 BSU victory in Bemidji, Minn. Jan. 22, 2010--a string spanning four games. uLast night the Beavers allowed six Bulldogs goals. It’s the second time this season BSU has surrendered six goals and marks the third time BSU has allowed five-of-more goals in the team’s last four games. uThe first 10 games of the Beavers’ 2011-12 schedule features eight road games. BSU is 1-4-0 when playing away form home this season. uBSU’s 6-2 loss to Minnesota Duluth puts it in a position to be swept by the Bulldogs for the first time since a series in Duluth, Minn. Jan. 16-17, 2009 and just the second time since the 2005-06 season. uOut shot 40-17 last night, the Beavers faced their largest shot deficit since a 48-17 differential in a 4-3 victory at Nebraska-Omaha to open the WCHA Playoffs Mar. 11, 2011. uThe Beavers have now been out shot in five of their first seven games and are 1-4-0 in those games. When BSU has out shot is opponents this season, it is a perfect 2-0-0. uIn its last two outings, BSU has been out shot 72-33. On the season the Beavers trail their opponents in shots on goal 208-167 with a 166-122 deficit in league games. uNow with 34 career goals, Jordan George climbed into a tie with BSU great Jeff McGill (1999-03)for 10th on BSU’s Division I-era goal scoring list last night. A goal tonight would allow him to match Riley Riddell (2001-04) for ninth place on the career list. George’s 34-41=75 career points seats him 13th on the Beavers’ Division I-era career scoring list. uScoring his second goal of the season last night, Brad Hunt continued his push toward 100 career points. Hunt enters tonight contest with 21-71=92 points. He currently sits ninth on BSU’s all-time defensemen scoring list. In the 56-year history of the BSU men’s hockey program, only five blueliners have eclipsed the 100-point plateau with the last coming in the 1994-95 campaign by Jude Bullianne Jr. (39-76=115). uBrance Orban leads BSU in scoring after seven games with 2-5=7 points and is the team’s top assist man. He has now surpassed the scoring totals of both of his first two years and has nearly doubled his career scoring total (6-9=15) already this season. uDespite being tagged with his first collegiate loss last night, freshman goaltender Andrew Walsh turned aside a career-high 34 saves in the game establishing a 2011-12 single-game team-high in the process. uLast night BSU scored twice in the first 7:26 but saw the Bulldogs score six unanswered goal in the remaining 52:34, including a pair of third-period markers. BSU has now been out scored 10-6 in the third period of 2011-12 games, which includes a 8-2 deficit in the third period of WCHA contests. uBSU has trailed in each of its first seven games this season. Despite owing a 3-4-0 record, in 420 minutes of play this season, BSU has held the lead for just 103:14 and 41:16 came in the Beavers’ 6-5 victory over Michigan Tech Oct. 21. uJordan George and Brad Hunt continued solid play versus Minnesota Duluth as each scored a goal last night. Both have averaged a point per game versus UMD during their careers. Hunt has 4-4=8 points versus the Bulldogs with a pair of power-play goals and a game-winning goal in eight games, while George has 3-3=6 points, which includes a game-winner, in six career games versus UMD. uThe Beavers’ got a goal from its blueline unit last night. Beaver defensemen have now scored in six of BSU’s seven games this season and have accounted four goals and 10 assists (4-10=14) for an average of 2.0 points per game. uThe Beavers dropped a 6-2 decision to No. 15 Minnesota Duluth last night. BSU is now 1-4-0 versus team ranked among the nation’s top 15 in 2011-12. The Beavers are 15-49-4 versus the top 15 since 1999-2000, but are 13-14-2 versus nationally-ranked teams according to USA Today and USA Hockey Magazine since the beginning of the 2008-09 campaign. uThe BSU penalty-kill allowed a UMD power-play goal midway through the third period last night snapping a string of 11 consecutive opponent power-plays snuffed out. The Beavers are now 25-30 (.833) on the kill this season and have allowed just two power-play goals in their opponents’ last 21 opportunities.

uAfter an 0-for-2 night last night, the Bemidji State’s power-play unit is 7-for-27 (.259) on the season.
