Bemidji State Hockey Game 24 - St. Cloud State at Bemidji State Sanford Center • Bemidji, Minn. • January 22, 2011 • 7:07 p.m.

Bemidji State notables: uBemidji State was defeated by St. Cloud State in overtime last night, 2-1. The game marks the six overtime game of the season for BSU (2-2-2), it third in as many games and second straight versus SCSU. BSU is now 5-10-2 in WCHA play and 9-12-2 overall. uThe Beavers have struggled in Friday evening contests in 2010-11. Last night’s series-opening loss makes the BSU 3-8-1 (.292) on Fridays with a 1-7-1 (.167) mark on Friday’s in league play. uLast night’s loss in extra time, marks the Beavers’ first OT loss since University of Minnesota Duluth scored in overtime to defeat BSU 3-2 Oct. 29. BSU is 20-19-40 in overtime since the 1999-2000 season. The Beavers have escaped overtime with at least a tie in over 77-percent (60-of-79) of overtime affairs in the last 11 seasons. uThe Beavers are now 4-6-1 at the Sanford Center this season and have won three of their last four home tilts. With that said, the Beavers continue to seek their first overtime victory in their new hockey home. The team is 0-2-1 in games extend to extra time at home this season. uScoring Bemidji State’s lone goal last night, senior Matt Read has now scored in five of the last six games played and has a total of eight goals and one assist for nine points (8-1=9) in those games. uRead’s power-play marker stood as his team-leading sixth of the season. He now has 14 during his career, matching Clay Simmons (1999-2002) for ninth on BSU’s Division I-era power-play goals scored list. His next power-play goal will slide him into a tie with linemate Ian Lowe (15) for eight place on the list. uThree seems to be a magical thresh hold for BSU opponents in 2010-11. BSU is 0-9-0 (.000) when its opponents have scored three or more goals in a game. BSU is 9-2-2 (.769) when holding its opponents to two or fewer goals this season. uTwenty-two of BSU’s 26 skaters have netted at least a point this season. Rookies Jeff Jubinville, Anton Racklin and Garrett Ladd along with sophomore Matt Hartmann are all still in search of their first collegiate points. uThe BSU power-play has struggled to get on track in the second half of 2010-11. In the first seven games back from break, the Beavers have only three goals on the man advantage (3-for-20) and are clicking at just 15 percent. With that said, BSU has a power-play goal in each of its last two games and is clicking at 22 percent (2-9) in those games. uBSU’s penalty-kill unit was flawless last night snuffing out all four of the Huskies’ power-play opportunities including a five minute major midway through the second frame. The Beavers have allowed just two man advantage goals in their last three games and 14 opponent chances (.857). The unit has now held opponents scoreless on 87-of-108 opponent man advantage opportunities this season (.806). uMatt Read will make his 134 consecutive appearance for the Beavers tonight. Read has not missed a game since he stepped on campus at BSU in the fall of 2007. He remains nine games behind Matt Pope and John Haider for the BSU Division I-era record for games played (143). uMatt Read increased his BSU Division I-era scoring mark to 131 (58-73=131) and his BSU Division I-era career goal scoring mark swelled to 58. uSophomore Jordan George assisted on Read’s goal last night increasing his team-leading helpers total to 15. George has scored in all three games he has played versus SCSU during his career and has 2-5=7 points versus the Huskies. uDan Bakala has two assists from the crease this season and remains just one behind Matt Dalton (2008-09) for the BSU single-season record. With three during his career, he’s two shy of matching Jim Scanlan (1978-82) for the career goalie assists mark. uIn his last 10 starts, Dan Bakala has posted a 7-3-1 record with a pair of shutouts. During that stretch, he has a goals against average of 1.46 and has turned aside 287-of-303 shots for a .948 save percentage. In five of the 11 games, Bakala has conceded one goal or less. uMatt Read has a pair of short-handed goals in the Beavers’ last three games. Now with eight during his career Read sits just one behind Brendan Cook (2001-05) for the Beavers’ Division I-era record (9). uBSU enters tonight’s game looking to salvage a series split versus the Huskies as well as to split the season series. After SCSU defeated BSU 6-3 in St. Cloud, Minn. Nov. 5, the Beavers bounced back to earn a 3-2 overtime victory the following night. This season BSU is 1-2-0 versus its intrastate rival.
