Bemidji State Hockey Game 20 - Bemidji State at Ala.-Huntsville Von Braun Center • Huntsville, Ala. • January 8, 2011 • 3:05 p.m.

Bemidji State notables: uBemidji State’s 3-1 win over Ala.-Huntsville extended its winning streak to three games and marked just the third time this season the Beavers have been victorious on Friday. BSU is now 3-7-0 on Fridays, 4-1-0 in non-conference play and improved to 8-10-1 overall. uBSU’s three-game winning streak is the team second of the season (Nov. 27-Dec.4). The last time the team won for in a row was Feb. 13-26, 2010. The Beavers posted four wining streaks of four-ormore games in 2010-11 and opened the season unbeaten in its first eight games (7-0-1). uLast night’s victory also marks BSU’s first true road victory since a 3-2 overtime triumph at St. Cloud State Nov. 6. The Beavers are now 2-5-0 as the visitors this season. uEmil Billberg continues to play a key role in BSU victories in 2010-11. BSU is 6-1-1 when he records a point, while the team is unbeaten (3-0-1) when he nets a goal. uAfter opening the season without a win in their first five games (0-4-1), the Beavers have won six of their last eight contests and have out scored their opponents 20-10 since Nov. 27. uWith an assist yesterday, Brad Hunt shares BSU’s top assist spot with Jordan George, who also had a helper. Hunt leads all BSU blueliners in scoring (0-12=12). This season, all eight BSU defensemen that have seen the ice have recorded at least one point and that’s not to mention a pair of assists by goaltender Dan Bakala. The Beavers’ defensive unit is responsible for 7-24=31 points for an average of 1.63 ppg this season. uToday’s rare afternoon start is nothing for the Beavers to be afraid of. This season BSU is already 2-0-0 in afternoon tilts and including the 2009-10 campaign, BSU is 5-1-2 in its last eight matinees. uThree seems to be a magical thresh hold for BSU opponents in 2010-11. BSU is 0-9-0 when its opponents have scored three or more goals in a game. BSU is 8-1-1 when holding its opponents to two or fewer goals this season. uWith a 3-1 victory versus Ala.-Huntsville, BSU is now 8-2-0 when scoring at least three goals in 2010-11. uRookie Kyle Brodie (1-0-1) netted his first collegiate goal in the third period of last night game. Fellow rookies Jeff Jubinville, Anton Racklin and Garrett Ladd and sophomore Matt Hartmann are all still in search of their first collegiate points. uFlawless last night, the BSU’s penalty-kill has allowed just four man advantage goals in its last 12 games and opponents’ 47 power-play opportunities (.914). The unit is up to .820 on the season. uMatt Read will make his 129 consecutive appearance for the Beavers tonight. Read has not missed a game since he stepped on campus at BSU in the fall of 2007. He remains 14 games behind Matt Pope and John Haider for the BSU Division I-era record for games played (143). uWith a pair of goals in last night’s contest, Matt Read has put up multiple goals in back-to-back games and now leads the team with 11 markers this season. He’s made a habit of scoring big versus the Chargers posting 13 goals and 15 assists for 28 points, which includes a pair of game-winners--that’s over 22 percent of his career scoring in 20 games versus the Chargers. The senior is +17 versus UAH. uAn assist by Dan Bakala last night gave the goaltender two on the season. He remains just one behind Matt Dalton (2008-09) for the BSU single-season record and with three during his career, he’s two from matching Jim Scanlan (1978-82) for the career goalie assists mark. uIn his last eight starts, Dan Bakala has posted a 6-2-0 record with a pair of shutouts. During that stretch, he has a goals against average of 1.26 and has turned aside 210-of-220 shots for a .955 save percentage. In five of the eight games, Bakala has conceded one goal or less. uMatt Read’s short-handed goal last night marked the Beavers’ first shorty of the season. Now with seven during his career Read sits just two behind Brendan Cook (2001-05) for the Beavers’ Division I-ear record (9). uBSU enters today’s game looking to extend its unbeaten streak versus the Chargers to 14 games (12-0-1)--a streak dating back to Nov. 7, 2008. The Beavers continue to hold a 36-27-4 advantage in the all-time series. uBSU sets out to complete just its third weekend sweep of 2010-11 this afternoon. In 2009-10, BSU piled up seven series sweeps, which included two over UAH. The last time BSU posted a non-conference sweep was Jan. 21-22, 2010 versus Minnesota Duluth and the last time BSU swept a two-game set on the road was Oct. 31-Nov. 1, 2009 at the Von Braun Center versus Ala.-Huntsville. uBemidji State is 1-1-1 in overtime contests in 2010-11, but has not played extra time since a Nov. 6 3-2 win at St. Cloud State. BSU is 19-18-39 in overtime since the 1999-2000 season. The Beavers have escaped overtime with at least a tie in over 76-percent (58-of-76) of overtime affairs in the last 11 seasons. uThe Beavers posted a record of 10-6-3 a year ago when playing on Saturday and are 5-3-1 in 2010-11. uBSU has compiled an all-time record of 974-478-87 (.663) in 1,539 games.
