OLSON SURPASSES 1,000 KILLS Senior middle blocker Nicole Olson (Baudette, Minn.) hit the 1,000 kill mark last Friday night against No. 13 Minnesota State to become just the eighth person in program history to reach the historic milestone. Olson has 1,049 kills in her four years at BSU. Brittney Burns (2004-08) was the last Beaver to accomplish over 1,000 kills in her career and currently ranks second all-time in BSU Volleyball history. Peggy Hamel-Moran is the all-time leader in kills at BSU with 1,300 from 1996-99. Olson is now ranked eighth all-time in kills.

BEAVERS STEAL SET FROM BULLDOGS The Bemidji State Beavers proved that they could stay with even the toughest of opponents as they came out of the gate and took the first set, 25-19, against No. 2 Minnesota Duluth on Tuesday. The set loss was only the fifth of the season for the undefeated Bulldogs. The set victory marked the second year in a row that the Beavers have been able to take the first set from a ranked UMD team.

GROSKREUTZ NAMED NSIC DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK Senior libero Brie Groskreutz (Reedsburg, Wis.) was selected as the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Defensive Player of the Week for her efforts for the Beavers in three matches against NSIC foes last week. Groskreutz has continued to be the vital cog for the BSU defense. The school’s all-time career digs leader with 1,632 career digs averaged 5.60 digs per game against the University of Mary, Minnesota State University Moorhead and the University of Minnesota, Crookston last week for the Beavers. Groskreutz tallied 56 digs in three matches and did not record a serve receive error. BSU’s defense led by Groskreutz held all three NSIC opponents to an under .200 hitting percentage.

13-GAME WIN STREAK MSU Moorhead ended a 13-game win streak for the Beavers last Friday. BSU won four straight 3-0 matches and the first set of Friday’s match with the Dragons before losing three straight to MSUM. The streak served as the longest the Beavers have gone without a loss in a game since 1989 when they also had a 13-game win streak.

SWEEPING UP In 17 games so far this season the Beavers have tallied seven 3-0 sweeps of their opponents. BSU wrapped up the Blue Hawk Tournament with sweeps of Black Hills State and Dickinson State to open the season and had three-conseuctive 3-0 wins after defeating Minot State, Adelphi and Sioux Falls at the Dragon Classic. BSU also picked up a 3-0 sweep of U-Mary and a 3-0 sweep of UM, Crookston

OLSON, GROSKREUTZ NAMED ALL-TOURNAMENT Seniors Brie Groskreutz and Nicole Olson were selected to the Dragon Classic All-Tournament team after strong weekends in Moorhead, Minn. Groskretuz averaged 5.29 digs per game including 31 digs against Northern State, while Olson tallied 40 kills and five blocks in four games in Moorhead.

THOMPSON STEPPING UP Sophomore Bethany Thompson played a key role for the BSU Beavers at the Dragon Classic. Thompson tallied 23 kills in two matches on Saturday. She hit .360 with 10 kills against Adelphi University. Thompson continued to impress with nine kills and a team-best .533 hitting percentage in the 3-0 sweep of U-Mary to open conference play.

RECORD SETTING WEEKEND The BSU volleyball team had a record-setting weekend at the Blue Hawk Tournament in Dickinson, N.D. Senior Libero Brie Groskreutz became the career leader in digs at Bemidji State with 23 digs last Friday against Montana State-Northern. She surpasses Mary Gergen, who had 535 career digs. Groskreutz heads into the UMD match with 1,669 career digs. Lindsey Weyer also put her name in the record books with a couple single match gems from the weekend. Weyer’s 25 kills against Montana State-Northern ties current Beaver Nicole Olson for the fourth-best single-match kills mark in program history. The senior outside hitter also put herself in the ranks among the best hitting percentages in a single match with a .583 attack percentage against Dickinson State to open the season. Nicole Olson made it a trio of Beavers to have a record setting weekend. Olson put her name in the top 10 of three categories. Olson’s 1,038 career kills now ranks seventh all-time. Her 240 block assists rank eighth all-time and Olson’s 294 total blocks come in eighth all-time.

WEYER NAMED BEAVER PRIDE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK Lindsey Weyer was named Beaver Pride Female Athlete of the Week after a stellar performance at the Blue Hawk Tournament.

MCCANNELL TAKES OVER AT SETTER Look for junior Jessi-Beth McCannell to be an X-Factor for Coach Chadwick’s BSU squad this season. The native of Brandon, Manitoba will be looked at to step up at the setter position replacing Courtney Bitter. McCannell showed she can fill the role admirably last season in her one appearance at setter. She exploded for a career-high 46 assists, while adding a season-high 13 digs for her first career double-double in the final contest of the season against Upper Iowa. In her first 16 matches as the starting setter, McCannell has tallied 616 assists for an average of 10.27 per game, which ranks tied for 26th in the NSIC and NCAA Division II. She will look to continue to build on those numbers as the Beavers head to No. 7 Concordia University, St. Paul on Tuesday

CHADWICK’S DEBUT Wayne Chadwick finished his first weekend as the BSU coach with a record of 3-1. The mark is the best four-game mark for a first-year head coach since Pat Rosenbrock led the Beavers to a 3-1 record to start the 1975 season.
