Your parcel has arrived! In previous years, we have placed little red slips into resident’s mail boxes to let them know they have received a parcel. This year, you will no longer receive a slip, but an email instead.

So if you are expecting a package, please check your email regularly. For all other regular letters, please come to MB reception at any time to check your mail box.

Easter Break We hope you all enjoy a relaxing Easter Break. The Resi Office will continue to operate 24 hours throughout this period, so please don’t hesitate to come down to Level 1 at MB for any support or queries.

The Diner’s operating hours over the break are as follows: 

Closing at 4pm tomorrow (Thursday 17th April).

Closed from Friday 18th-Wednesday 23rd April.

Open on Thurs 24th April.

Closed on Friday 25th April.

Reopening on Monday 28th April.


Moving beds Under no circumstances are mattresses or bed bases to be shifted from one room to another. Beds and their mattresses are to remain in their assigned rooms at all times.

Keep Doorways Clear Please keep your bedrooms and apartments clean and tidy at all times. This is for the benefit of the cleaners and for ease of access in the event of an emergency evacuation such as a fire alarm.

Syringes If you find a syringe around campus, please do not pick it up. Contact security immediately so they can dispose of it correctly and safely.

BEARS Trivia Night Come along to the MB Rec Room on Wednesday 30th April for a Trivia night.

There will be 6 rounds of 10 questions, all based on the different BEARS clubs. Nibbles provided for each table and prizes for the winners! Come and sign up at MB Reception. Limited to 15 tables of 10. Sign up as a group of 10 or individually by Monday 28th April. See you BEARS members for any other information.

Footy Players Needed! Emmaus St Leo’s Football Club (The Animal’s) are located conveniently at the oval on the Deakin Burwood Campus and are opening up their doors to new players from all backgrounds and skill levels. The club currently has 3 senior men’s teams at different grades allowing us to accommodate any experience or skill level. If you are interested in just having a kick or something more serious please contact Jon (details below) or alternatively we will see you at training at 6pm Tuesday’s and Thursday’s. Fire Blankets Fire Blankets are located in each kitchen on res for your own safety.

At BSV, you will find them hanging on the walls in your kitchen (See below left) At MB, they are on the kitchen cupboard door underneath the sink (See below right).

Cookies for Sale! Irena, a former resident, is entering the Miss World pageant. Irena will be selling cookies in the MB rec Room from 12-2pm on the 5th, 6th and 7th May. All money raised goes to the Miss World charity Variety. “Beauty With A Purpose" is at the heart of the Miss World pageant, which means that fundraising constitutes a large percentage of the campaign. The charity affiliated with Miss World Australia is Variety, the children’s charity. You can check them out at https://variety.org.au ! They hold all sorts of fundraising events, including the Variety Cycle.

DUSA DAY TRIPS Wilson's Promontory Wilson's Promontory is Victoria's natural wonderland. Located at the southernmost point of the Australian mainland, Wilson’s promontory is arguably the most loved national park in Victoria. When: Saturday 10th May Time: 7.30am Pick Up Where: Deakin University, Burwood Campus, Gate 1, Holland Street, car park area Cost: DUSA Gold/Silver: $85 All others: $105 Includes: All transport, picnic style lunch * You will need to have a reasonable level of fitness to enjoy the natural wonders on show. Please remember to bring a waterproof jacket, good walking shoes and money if you would like to purchase food and souvenirs.

Mornington Peninsula On this trip we head straight to Arthurs seat where you will have morning tea and take in the remarkable views of the Mornington Peninsula. We then visit a working strawberry farm, Cape Shank National park and then Mornington Peninsula hot springs. Recipe of the Week Bean and Spinach Korma Ingredients (serves 2) 

Cooking spray

1 small brown onion, chopped

1/2 red capsicum, chopped

2 tablespoons korma curry paste

1/3 cup vegetable stock

160ml can coconut milk

400g can cannellini beans, drained, rinsed

30g baby spinach

steamed basmati rice and pappadums, to serve

Method 1. Apply cooking spray to a medium saucepan. Over medium heat, add onion and capsicum. Cook, stirring, for 3 to 4 minutes or until vegetables are softened. 2. Add curry paste. Cook, stirring, for 1 minute or until aromatic. 3. Add stock and coconut milk. Bring to the boil. Add beans. Reduce heat to medium-low. 4. Cook, stirring, for 4 to 5 minutes or until heated through. Stir in spinach. Cook for 1 minute or until spinach is just wilted. 5. Serve with steamed rice and pappadums.
