8 years in Rotary and I am just beginning to understand a little of what Rotary is all about. The methodology of collecting money and using it usefully and transparently; the energy of fellowship; and the satisfaction International of small helps rendered is what I understand now. But as time goes by I hope to understand the greater thoughts and ideas that Rotary uses to change communities for the better in a big way. I salute all the great Community Rotarians who worked so systematically for that. Hope to learn more of Rotary and be a little wiser by the end of this Rotary year.
Welcome DGE Rtn PHF Dr. Bhaskar S.! DGE Rtn PHF Dr. Bhaskar, son of Rtn P S Bhat (PP RC Puttur) and Ann Sathyabhama, joined Rotary in 1989. He was President of RC Puttur in 2002-03, AG of Zone 5 in 2007-08 and District Polio Plus Committee Chair in 2010-11. He was instrumental in starting the Rotary DGE with Ann Manjula Campco Blood Camp in 1997; the construction of RC Puttur's own meeting hall; and increasing Club membership to all time high of 101! He is PP of IMA (Puttur) and Puttur Jaycees. Orthopaedic surgeon by profession, and Managing Director of 100bedded Puttur City Hospital, he has a PG diploma from KMC Mangalore and MBBS from JNMC, Belgaum. His Ann PHF Manjula is PP of Inner Wheel Club, Puttur. Their son Dr. Varun (MBBS) is PP of Interact Club and daughter Varsha is pursuing her MBBS studies.
Club President : Rtn Dr. Girija A. Rtn Dr. Girija is a well-known gynaecologist who established and runs Sonia Clinic and Nursing Home at Manipal. She joined Rotary in 2005 and has brought her unique blend of flavour to our Club. Known for her tongue in cheek humour, Dr. Girija gives a false appearance of seriousness which hides the bubbly woman who will break into a peal of laughter or dance at the drop of a hat. She is someone who is always willing to lend a helping hand and in spite of a full working life, finds time to keep in touch with friends, family and Rotary . Rtn Girija takes any task assigned to her very seriously; she was the editor who made the Concord from a monthly to a weekly bulletin and she was the director who gave a whole new meaning to the designation Club service Director!! Rtn Dr. Girija is happily married to Dr Ramakrishna, an anaesthetist; they have 3 talented daughters and 3 grand children. We, the members of RC Udupi-Manipal, look forward to a year full of fun, service and surprises.
Editor's Message It is my pleasure and honor to take over as the new editor of the club bulletin. CONCORD has grown immensely and credit for this laudable achievement goes to past editorial teams. To succeed such teams is a great responsibility and a real challenge. We will strive to continue this legacy with the support and guidance of all Rotarians.

'Engage Rotary Change Lives' The Rotary Theme for 2013-14, “Engage Rotary, Change Lives”, is a call and also a reminder to all Rotarians, by the incoming RI President Ron D. Burton. Every one of us in Rotary is here because we were invited, and because we made a choice to accept that invitation. Every day since then, we’ve been faced with another choice: whether to just be a member of a Rotary club, or to truly be a Rotarian. Being a Rotarian is a commitment that goes far beyond just showing up at meetings once a week. It means seeing the world, and our role in it, in a unique way. It means accepting our communities as our responsibility, and acting accordingly: taking the initiative, making the effort, and doing what’s right, not what’s easy. All of us came to Rotary to get involved, and to make a difference. And in Rotary service, as in just about everything else in life, the more you put into it, the more you get out of it. If we only put in a token effort, we won’t accomplish very much, and we won’t find very much satisfaction in what we do accomplish. But when we make the decision to truly engage Rotary — to bring Rotary service and Rotary values into every day of our life — that is when we start to see the incredible impact that we can have. That’s when we find the inspiration, the excitement, and the power to truly change lives. And no one’s life will be changed more than our own! We've chosen to wear the Rotary pin! Let us now heed the RI President's earnest call to Engage Rotary, Change Lives !
