2. a moonlit realm
Programme - Interior Design Client - Maharani Gayetri Devi Context - 2001 - A Space Odyssey
A moonlit realm rose from the idea of expression of light and shadow. The natural light and darkness create a sense of contrast playing as a tool to generate the feeling of isolation yet freedom. The thought was a result of deep understanding of the client maharani gayetri devi and the meaning of luxury to her. Many aspects of the design also aim at the idea of memory and to keep the connection of her to the royal palace. With the movie, 2001 - a space odyssey, as the context for the design, the idea also focused on keeping the important elements of it and add on to the experiential quality.

Maharani gayetri devi is seen as a very strong women, bold enough to stand for womens rights and education in rajasthan. Her simple yet elegant fashion statement with sarees and pearl jewelery influenced many people. Even today, she is admired for her courage to speak without filters and straightforwardness. The design intends to project her simple yet elegent rule through interiors. Minimal furniture with an intention to create strong contrast against the materiality of the surrounding. Design also intends to bring in nature as much as possible to cater her sports and nature interests. Exposed materials with an open plan gives out a strong sense of place which is balanced through glass walls and ceiling.

The series of glass walls and skylights allows the natural light penetration and the views of surrounding rocky mountains. As the spaces burrow inside these rocks, the idea of outside and inside starts to fade away and the threshhold becoms prominent yet uncertain. This came through understanding that isolation and freedom would mean a form of luxury to famous figure like maharani gayetri devi.

A blend of japanese and indian styles is introduced. While the indian styles relate to the cultural values of the client, japanese styles influence the quality of light and convey a sense of calmness. The materials are kept in their true forms imposing their natural expression and adding to the quality of space.
