1586 Elliot Daingerfield (North Carolina, 1859-1932) The Happy Mother, oil on canvas, signed lower right, inscribed on stretcher verso with title and signature, 32-1/2 x 40 in.; Newcomb- Macklin gilt wood frame, 40-1/2 x 48 in. Estimate: $25,000 - $35,000 This painting has descended to the present owners from the collection of Robert Hayes Gore, a newspaper owner, entrepreneur and ambassador to Puerto Rico (1933-34). He was owner of the historic Green Park Inn in Blowing Rock, North Carolina during Elliott Dangerfield's lifetime. It is possible and probable that this and the following to two paintings were purchased directly from the artist. Dangerfield's final studio in Blowing Rock, Westglow, is less than five miles away from the Green Park Inn.
