A Reminder from the Accounting Department

As we near the end of the year and get ready for budget voting and coupon books, we urge all property owners to verify their mailing addresses and phone numbers. This is also a good time to verify your account balance. Consider the option of ACH payments for monthly assessments, having BCPO pull your assessments out of your bank account the 10th of the month. Or perhaps consider the option of an annual statement over a coupon book. Forms for these options are available in the administration office.

President’s Desk by Gail Metcalf

Hello Fellow Brookridge Members

It seems this year is passing so quickly! We are in the Christmas season! I want to thank all the volunteers and employees who worked diligently to put up Christmas lights and decorations at the entrance and the Clubhouse. Residents are decorating their homes; take a ride around in the evening and see the lights! Please take some time to partake in some or all the festivities going on at the Clubhouse. You can find the information in the News and Views calendar.

It is wonderful to see so many activities going on at the Clubhouse. Please check the list of Organizations in the News

Page 7 and Views. We always encourage you to volunteer for the many committees and clubs in Brookridge. It is a great way to get to know your fellow residents.

The Unit Representatives have gone back to the tradition of welcoming new residents into Brookridge. We want everyone to feel part of our Community. The Unit Reps also assist in our elections. We currently are taking resumes for Unit Reps in Units 1,2, 3, and 4. They meet the second Tuesday morning each month, except the summer.

Beautification Committee is in need of more volunteers. They meet the first Thursday of the month and set times to take care of our entrance, the Clubhouse and Brookridge Blvd. With many hands the weeding and trimming will take little time. Right now we only have 8-10 volunteers. We are hoping that more people will help keep Brookridge beautiful. There is also the RV Compound committee that looks after the Compound. They meet the second Wednesday of the month from December to May. We have CERT and Crime Watch that assist our Community in times of emergencies and make sure the parking lots are safe during social activities at the Clubhouse. We also have the Appeals/Violation Review Committee and the Architectural Control Committee that meet a few times a month. As you can see, there are many volunteers needed to help run our Community. Many times the volunteers have double and triple duty. It would be good to see some new faces. These activities take a few hours a month, some do not meet in the Summer, and it is a wonderful opportunity to be engaged in your Community.

We continue to review our Governing Documents to keep up with new issues and changes to the Florida statutes. We continue to work our way through the Standard Operating Procedures to align them with the Governing Documents. At times we will ask for the Membership's assistance for review. Presently, we have an ad hoc committee reviewing the Vendor Rules and Regulations. We have had times when Security needs to contact someone for a resident due to an emergency. Unfortunately, many times there is no Emergency Contact information in the files. I encourage you to update this information at the Administration office. It is important that we have someone to contact for you in case of an emergency. Thank you for your assistance. Have a wonderful, peace-filled, joyous Christmas season! Gail Metcalf, President, BCPO

Brookridge Crime Watch By Betty Roberts

OUR MOTTO: LOCK IT OR LOSE IT. The holidays are upon us. Daylight savings time has ended and it gets dark early. We should be vigilant when we drive in the morning and early evening. We have walkers who should be carrying flashlights and Golf Carts should have headlights.

Whether you are running errands or just out for fun, be vigilant about payment card safety. Hear are some tips: Keep a sharp eye on the person you’re paying. Make sure that person isn’t holding anything like a portable skimmer and that your card doesn’t leave your site. When you get your card back, double check that it is indeed yours and was not swapped for another. Check sales vouchers carefully before signing. Never leave a line blank on a receipt. Draw a squiggly line through any blank spaces to prevent an unwanted amount being added. When eating at a restaurant, ask to pay your bill up front at the sales terminal instead of giving your credit card to a server. We hope you had a safe Thanksgiving and we wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy, Healthy New Year.

Our next meeting will be on Wednesday Dec. 7, 2016 at 9am in room D. We will have a Christmas Brunch with Cert.

Beautification Committee By Nancy Lowry

Our November 3rd meeting showed an enthusiasm in wanting to keep Brookridge an inviting community to live in. In order to fulfill the ideas we need more volunteers willing to attend our first Thursday of the months meeting and donate up to 4-6 hours a month in maintaining our flora. The more hands trimming and clipping in the Beautification Committee the neater our Brookridge will look.

The more minds that advance their ideas for a common purpose make us stronger. Wishing everyone a Merry Christmas and Happy Hanukah! Next meeting is on Thursday, December 1, 2016

Security Captain’s Report By Greg Schubert

With the holiday season fast approaching, many people will be having parties and get togethers at their homes. I want to remind everyone about parking. There is no parking on the grass, vacant lots or the median of Brookridge Blvd. Street parking IS allowed between the hours of 6:00 am and 1:00 am. There in no overnight street parking. Please ensure that when parking in the street, vehicles don’t block driveways, mail boxes or fire hydrants. I want to wish everyone a festive holiday season and a Happy and Healthy New Year.

Safety Meeting By Nancy Lowry

Just another reminder to watch out for Committee members on the boulevard working as well as Public Works employees, we have had several close calls.

RV Compound

Page 9

By Ed Baines

Well, as you have noticed the Compound is starting to fill up with the return of our Snow Birds from the North. There is a waiting list for spots in the RV Compound so spots may be empty now but will be occupied in the coming months. If you would like to have a spot, please contact Betty Hine in the BCPO Admin Office to get on the waiting list for one.

We operate on donations to maintain the Compounds lighting, lighting bill, and Security cameras so any donation you are willing to make will only enhance the Compound in general. In the past we had asked for a $20 donation or more each year from each occupant of the Compound but this is not mandatory. This is a small price to pay for the convenience of parking your RV in Brookridge versus an outside storage unit. Checks can be made payable to BCPO and in the memo field of the check please state “For RV Compound” We have a very energetic committee that meets once a month to walk through the Compound to make sure all is in order and well kept. Our next walk through will be December 14th at 10 A.M. If you would like to help please meet us at the Compound. We hope all of you will have an enjoyable Holiday Season.

If you are interested in running for the Board of Directors or for a Unit Representative position, Please submit your application at the Administration office or call 596-0696. The application deadline is 4 pm December 12th 2016.

Coupons Books available at the Administration Office the Week of December 5th through the 9th Vivian is still looking for volunteers so stop by and sign up to volunteer a few hours.

The Julian calendar works well for everyday life but when trying to figure out at what precise moment to launch a spacecraft, well that’s a totally different issue. The familiar countdown sequence (10, 9, 8…) uses Sidereal time for “0…lift-off” but here even 9-digit accuracy is inadequate. NASA’s common term “burn for course correction” routinely adjusts for these microscopic calendar errors.

Share your good deeds. I encourage all clubs to notify Jean Hayes of the Tampa Bay Times of your events that benefit the Brooksville community. Fund raisers, charitable donations or awards are some examples. If you include a good color photo in your email she may include it in your story. You can email Jean at or by phone at 352-848-1438. Just bring your interest, questions, inventory for your access. It connects to a laptop to project on enthusiasm, and smiles. Until next month, keep looking up! a screen. If your club needs to use it please check it out from the monitors office, great for showing slides or power point programs.

A second annual BCPO Art Festival might happen in 2017 or 2018 depending on Jackie’s health and a staff of volunteers to help with it. It is cancelled for this year because of her illness. Please pray for Jackie.

Art Workshop has not been attended through the summer and I have had no calls to continue with hosting it; so it is also cancelled.

By Philip Rastocny

Everyone knows that on December 31, we celebrate the end of a year, one full trip around our sun. The length of a year is defined by the Julian calendar but is the earth in exactly the same place every December 31? No it is not, not even by adding a leap day every 4 years. When measuring where the earth is in its orbit around the sun, you need to pick a reference point from which there are several to choose.

We had an enthusiastic turnout at our last meeting, which is always a good sign. Don't perform? That's okay we will be needing people to help with set decorations, costumes, ticket takers and ushers. A vote was taken to modify our name from the Drama Club to The Drama Club/Brookridge Players. our goal is to create one entity so that we may present "a really good show". Speaking of which, rehearsals are underway for our 2017 production, titled Metro 42 (Bus Stop) a compilation of speaking parts, songs and ?

The dates are February 18th and 19th. It has not yet been decided if we will present two evening performances or a Sunday evening performance and a Sunday matinee. Further details TBA. Have a Merry Christmas!

December is a time of giving and receiving. Think about all the best gifts you have ever given and those you have received. We hope you have received the greatest of all gifts, the gift of Jesus Christ given by the love, grace, and mercy of God! If you want to learn more about that gift, come study with us each Wednesday evening 6PM in the clubhouse room C.

This month we should be finishing Philippians and working in Colossians. Linda and Bill Hartman co-chair the study, assisted by Dan Krotje. Our study consists of Bible reading, commentary of the chapter, and discussions which include answering your questions. This is a non-denominational study taken from God’s Word. You may contact Bill or Linda at (352) 293-4647, Or E-mail us:

Romans 6:23 (KJV) For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. Ephesians 2:4-10 (KJV) But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us, (5) Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;) (6) And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus: (7) That in the ages to come he might shew the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus. (8) For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: (9) Not of works, lest any man should boast. (10) For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.

Our regular meeting are always on the 2nd Monday of the month through May. This month or meeting is at 1 PM December 12th at the clubhouse and our speaker is Dr. Bill Lester of the Extension Service. The subject is winter flora for Florida. Also, December 8th is our annual Christmas Luncheon. It will be held at Beef O Brady's at 14387 Spring Hill Dr. (Barkley Plaza, corner of Barkley & Spring Hill Dr.) at 12 noon.

Over the past year we've had programs on mulching, container gardening and took a tour of a nearby olive grove, just to mention a few. We always welcome new members and visitors and we like to ask for suggestions about the programs and subjects you want to hear about There have been some new people at our last meetings and we hope to see you there, too! If you have any questions, please call Maryann Blatt at 352-596-3562 or Kat Durham at 352-5965430. Please join us for an enjoyable afternoon

New members are always welcome to this sewing for charity club. Workshops are every Thursday in room D at the clubhouse from 9 am until 11a.m., business meetings every second Thursday. We cut and sew gowns, bibs and blankets for Hospice, Linus Project, Children’s home, Veterans and Tangerine Cove A.L.F. We have all supplies; just bring your desire. We thank the community for such donations as gently used, colored or patterned sheets. Greatly needed is new cotton left over fabric pieces with kid friendly prints for our Linus Project quilts. We try to find a home for every item donated. Other items our charities like are good used blankets, toiletries you pick up at motels.

Men’s Club is hosting a pancake Breakfast December 4 and they are allowing us to have a craft sale table. It is nice to support them; since they donate so much to community projects. So get your tickets and we’ll see you there. Delivery for Oct. to Hospice, 13 gowns and 2 pair of decubitus prevention boots.

Jane Mulvaney & Linda Rogers

Dave & Daphne JANUARY 2nd , 2017

Dave - has toured the world with Barbara Mandrell, performed at the White House for the president on three different occasions and appeared on countless TV shows.

Barbara Mandrell simply states, “Dave is the best guitarist I’ve ever had. His repertoire ranges from the ORANGE BLOSSOM SPECIAL to the FLIGHT OF THE BUMBLE BEE to the WILLIAM TELL OVERTURE. Dave is just a regular guy with a God given talent to touch people with his music. Daphne - shortly after graduating from Georgia Southwestern University, moved to Nashville, TN to pursue a career in music. She is best described as a cross between Shania Twain and Patsy Cline. The crowds have absolutely fallen in love with her. She is gorgeous, quick witted, and super talented. Her impressions of country legends, Tammy Wynette, Loretta Lynn, and Patsy Cline are phenomenal. Add to that the ability to yodel out the Patsy Montana classic “COWBOY’S SWEETHEART’, captivate you with Dolly Parson’s smash hits and Whitney Houston’s version of “I WILL ALWAYS LOVE YOU”. You are just beginning to scratch the surface of her diverse talent.

Dave and Daphne both give God the glory for their talents, and together they have formed a duo with all the energy of a Las Vegas Show with solid country music roots. A down to earth guy and girl with one goal – to provide clean, quality, exhilarating entertainment. The doors open at 6:00 PM and the show starts at 6:55 PM. Tickets are $6.00 at the door.

2017/2018 season tickets will be sold February and March. If you do not wish to renew, please let me know.

“Share the Wealth” tickets are sold for $3.00 for 9 tickets and $5.00 for 18 tickets. All winners are guaranteed $20.00 or more depending on money collected. We also have a $50.00 winner each show. If you have any questions or would like to purchase tickets for the show, if available, please call me (Jane) at ( 352) 5971357. I would love to hear from you.

I am attempting to find out if there is any interest in forming a group for Scrapbooking. My name is Cindy and I am from Michigan (here for 6 months each year). I am a MAJOR Scrapbooker.

I can and have been doing this alone but I know it is much more fun in a group. If there is interest we could form a group (pending approval) and have a designated day/time each month to scrapbook Donated Tree Planting - Donated Tree planted in memory of together in the clubhouse OR we could schedule cer- Kay Van Der Moere, by Lawrence Van Der Moere in the median at 15994 Brookridge Blvd, Unit 4 tain day and pay to rent the room. Also, if you know of other scrapbook groups let me know this too and maybe I can scrap with you. If you are interested please call me at 810-334-5355 and I will create the interest listing and take it from there. Thank you for your time.
