Managers Report By Ray Geroux

President’s Desk Hello Fellow Residents

by Gail Metcalf

Can you believe we are coming to the close of another year? It is nice to see all our friends and neighbors coming back to join our Florida family.

By now, all our road work is complete, along with the striping that is visible in the night also. This is helpful for the safety of all. We are thankful that Brookridge traffic has continued to slow down. For those who still insist on going over the posted speed limits, they are receiving fines of $50 to $100 and 30 to 60 day suspension of privileges. For that price, I have to wonder, "is it worth going over 30 mph and getting to the gate or home under 7 minutes?" Many of us just set our cruise control for 30mph on Brookridge Blvd and 25mph on most side roads. It is that easy! We also want to remind you that the first row of parking at the Clubhouse is for small vehicles and golf carts only. Please do not park your large car, van, suv, or truck in the front spaces. This parking signage is there strictly for the safety of our residents and guests.

Our Beautification Committee volunteers continue to keep Brookridge Community looking great. Our front entrance from Rte 50 to the Guard House has come a long way.

We are thankful for our volunteers who take on the task of keeping us entertained many nights of the week. They run Tuesday night Bingo, Left- Right-Center on Wednesdays, Dime Jingles on Thursdays, and Friday Night Bingo on a regular basis. The All Stars Entertainment and Brookridge Entertainment shows may only be once a month, but those volunteers work all year long to bring fun and music to all of us.

There are over 5000 residents and only a handful volunteers. If there are no volunteers, two things would happen; Brookridge would look drab and we would have nothing to do. Please consider volunteering just a few hours a month. It is a nice way to meet people and lessen the load for the few who bring us these programs.

A letter from the Board was sent to the Sheriff’s office thanking them and the two deputies that stayed in Brookridge 24 hours a day during Hurricane Irma, they were Deputy Tommy Harris We have a new year rapidly approaching. We will be explainand Deputy Dustin Adkins. ing the Deed Restriction changes that we feel are necessary for Brookridge to run smoothly. There is also a committee that The 35th Fall Neighborhood Garage Sale was a great success is looking at refurbishing the front Brookridge sign so that it will with over $1300 raised for donated funds, thank you Jackie reflect what Brookridge Community is all about. More to come McCabe and all the volunteers. The Spring Neighborhood in January! Garage Sale benefiting CERT is scheduled for March 10, 2018. We wish a wonderful, peace-filled, joyous Christmas season to 2018 Assessment statements will be mailed the week of Dec our fellow residents and our wonderful staff! 4th. We no longer print coupon books. Please use your account number (UBL) on your checks. We have one foreclosure home for seal-bid sale, sealed bids will be opened at the January 17th Board Meeting.

RV Compound By Ed Baines

Our Annual RV Members Meeting was held November 8th with 30 participants. A great many suggestions and concerns were brought up at the meeting and we thank all that attended. All of the questions and concerns were discussed at the Nov 15th ADHOC meeting. We hope to provide an update on what we discussed and decided on these issues at the March Members Meeting.

We will be installing two more light poles and adding four more lights to the center section of the compound. An additional two more security cameras will also be added. Attendees were briefed on our efforts to obtain more land for the Compound and our ongoing effort to angle all parking spaces to accommodate easier parking of units. As volunteers we will do our best to accommodate all with what we have available to us. Thank you for your patience and we hope you all have a great Winter Season here in Brookridge.

By David Bahr

In the Nov. News & Views I talked about using the constellations as "guideposts" to seek out other celestial objects of interest. Let's use a Fall/Winter constellation, Cassiopeia (KASSee-oh-PEE-ah) as an example.

We locate Cassiopeia in the night sky by looking North/Northeast early in the evening and about 45 above the horizon. It looks like a sideways "W" or upside-down "M" with an elongated leg. Let's see how we can use Cass. as a guide by numbering the 5 brightest stars (1-5) that make up the "W" from South-to-North. (The Southern-most star will appear as the "top" star from our point of view). Stars 1-2-3 form a wedge, or arrow, that point almost directly to our nearest galaxy, namely that of our sister galaxy Andromeda, also called (M31). Using stars 3 and 4 to form a "pointer" they guide (point) to one of the most beautiful sights in the night sky, called the Double Cluster. Along the Eastern side (bottom of the "W") are a number of open clusters of stars. (NGC 663; M101; NGC 457; E.T.; and others). Further out, stars 4 & 5 point to beautiful Kemble's Cascade, a chain of 15+ stars that leads to small open cluster NGC1502. Lastly I'll mention stars 1&2 used as a pointer toward another open cluster, M52 near the constellation Cepheus. We use other constellations in the same way to locate all kinds of Milky Way and deep space objects to view, what we amateurs call our "Window to the visible Universe". Why not come out and join us during one of our monthly Star Parties and see for yourself. I promise you will hear a lot of ooh's and aah's from first time viewers and even from us veterans. We are just as amazed every time we "look up".

Greetings returning Snowbirds. I hope all had a wonderful summer. I’m sure you have noticed our Guard Shack entry way. Over the summer we have made some upgrades in its appearance by adding some decorative fencing. It really adds to the overall appearance of the front gate. Thanks to our committee members that are also permanent residents in Brookridge. In December and January, you will see our committee hard at work on the Boulevard and at the front Brookridge sign doing yearly mulching, weeding and replacing plants that did not make it through the summer months. For safety sake, please be aware that we are out there. We have also noticed that there is a lot of litter along the Boulevard and at the front entry sign. Please don’t litter in our community. Either public works or our committee are forever picking up trash. We try hard to make our community a beautiful place to live. Help us out in this regard.

If you would like to volunteer for the Beautification Committee, we meet the first Thursday of every month at 9:00 am in the Administration Office, Conference Room to discuss our upcoming projects and then have workdays once a month for about 3 hours on average. We would love to have you join us. Monetary donations can also be made for our projects by check. Please note in the memo field of your check “Beautification Committee” and deliver it to the Administration Office. We want to wish all in our community Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays. We have added some new things to our Christmas light display at the front entry way for your, enjoyment. I hope you like our decorating!

You all make it feel like home. When you yell "one more bone". All of you are really great. I couldn't ask for a better date.

So Friday is the day to come and play with Vivian and me.

Our schedule has changed slightly for December. Our only, on campus, get together is a pizza party with gift and cookie exchange, will be on Sunday, December 17, 2017. Our core group is providing the pizza. B.Y.O.D.(Drink). Bakers for the exchange need to bring 4 dozen cookies or confections. Sounds yummy, just thinking about it.

For the gift exchange, get something someplace like the Dollar Tree. Spend no more than $1.00. Be creative when choosing a gift. There are lots of fun, practical and odd items to choose from. Make your gift wrap fun too. Pizza and presents! Oh, we're gonna have so much fun! We do have other activities going on outside the community in December. We're going to carpool to Colorama on Thursday the 7th to enjoy Big Band Music and their buffet. Music is free, buffet is oh so good, for only $12.00.

Come and bowl with us at Strike City on Mariner Blvd. every Tuesday at 2:00 pm. It's not a league. Bowl every week or every once in awhile. It's fun and great exercise! Watch for Linda's emails. Exciting activities in the works for next year. Have a very merry month of December! Any questions, call me, Debby Burns at 980-613-0395.

The holidays are here again!

The cool breezes that began with the coming of November have made our morning games a delight. It is great to see the courts filled again after such a warm summer.

On Thanksgiving morning, those of us who were not busy putting the turkey into the oven played at our usual 8 am time. We enjoyed potluck snacks and breakfast drinks. We plan to have our Holiday Party in early December this year, but the date has not been booked as of this writing. See any of the club members to learn more details.

And we are always looking for new members. Anyone who wants to learn the game is truly welcome. You will find us on the courts every day except Sunday, playing from 8:00 to10:00 am. There is no charge to play, and all skill levels are welcome. If you are looking for fun, great exercise, and new friends, come and join us!

We are located at 5244 Commercial Road near Golden Corral, and Jericho Rd. Thrift Shop, open every Wed and Thurs from 10-2. Please come and let us give you our smiles, hugs, and HOPE for a brighter holiday. We still need volunteers to staff and crafters to make scarves and turbans so please offer the gift of your time and call Claire at 428-4143.
