FLASH NETWORKING WHAT IS AN ELEVATOR PITCH?
# 30-second overview of an individual’s knowledge, skills, accomplishments # An opportunity to get your point across in a timely manner (i.e. who you are, what you’ve accomplished, what you hope to do in the future). CRAFTING YOUR PITCH
IN 5 EASY STEPS 1. SHARE WHO YOU ARE + TYPE OF WORK YOU ARE LOOKING FOR. Tell what you can do. Describe 1 or 2 top skills. Give an example of an achievement. Success stories work well they’re easy to remember, easy to say, and capture attention. Share how you can apply your skills.
2. HIGHLIGHT THE STRENGTHS YOU WANT TO PROMOTE. Explain your passion, your current position at work or as a student, (prospective) industry, and what you’d like to get out of what you do.
3. TAKE AN ACTION STEP. If appropriate, ask for a business card or ask if they know someone or if they know a company that could use your experience. It can be bold, but effective.
4. WRITE, EDIT + STRENGTHEN PITCH. Write the pitch so it’s easy to say understand. Once you have it all written down, begin to shave it down. Flesh out the excess so your value really stands out and your 30 seconds is memorable.
5. PRACTICE, PRACTICE, AND PRACTICE SOME MORE. Once it’s clear and ready, read it, say it, memorize it. Practice until it sounds effortless. Go out + conquer. Credit: NYC Department of Small Business Services + NYC Department of Education
