Staff Go "Above&Beyond"

his year Brookline introduced our new employee recognition program, Above&Beyond. Residents and guests nominate staff when someone has gone above and beyond the call of duty to make their experience with us one that exceeds expectations. Amongst their PEERS Pennsylvania Empowered Expert Residents improve life for fellow residents, others

I

n 2002, Pennsylvania’s Long-Term Ombudsman Office implemented its Pennsylvania Empowered Expert Residents (PEER) program in an attempt to expand its volunteer efforts in training residents of long-term care facilities. As part of the program, stage-certified ombudsmen teach residents about their rights and how to advocate and maintain these rights for themselves and their fellow peers; with the belief that PEER members become the residents with the solutions. Members learn how to work with facility staff to enhance their quality of care and life for all residents. Self-resolution and empowerment are themes consistently emphasized in all statewide trainings. The PEER program also offers residents additional information and resources that help them play a key role in any needed improvements. ”The success of Pennsylvania's Empowered Expert Residents project has been an exceptional and life changing experience for many of its members," said former Secretary of Aging Nora Dowd Eisenhower.
