This project was easily my favorite in the class. I absolutely loved having to come up with my own scene ideas, and then translate them into pictures. In my first set of pictures, a woman is hiding in her room because an ex-boyfriend is banging on her door. In the second set of pictures, a woman hears her doorbell ring and is shocked to find her neighbor beaten up. In the final set of pictures, that same woman has poisoned the beat-up woman’s husband, who is sitting dead at her kitchen table. My first set of pictures was not difficult at all. I filmed them in my dorm room and in my hallway. The only thing I had to do was rearrange some of my furniture to get my desired angles. The other two pictures, however, were extremely difficult. I needed a specific location for these shots, and I wanted to take these in a house. However, I could not find anyone that lived in a house in Bloomington that was home this weekend, so I had to improvise and use a kitchen in my dorm. Another problem I had with the 2nd set of shots was making the 2nd photo and the 3rd photo look like they were in the same place, while in reality I took the 2nd picture inside and the 3rd picture outside. I think that the result looks really smooth and people wouldn’t be able to tell that they are in two different places. My friends were very gracious and remained patient while I worked on the lighting to make it look how I wanted, and believe me, it took a while. However, I used a few lamps that I had here (and a few from my friends) and used my extension cords from my room. While I took a picture of one person in the scene, the other person not in the scene was my production assistant and held lights for me. I am very pleased with how my pictures turned out, especially my 2nd and 3rd sets of shots. I thought that I wouldn’t be able to light the room properly since it was very big, but with a few magic light tricks I got the job done. I feel that this project showed us students how a movie set might be, and I had a lot of fun doing this project. I would love to do it again.
