from the director

welcome back Welcome to the Broken Arrow Performing Arts Center, home of the Kristin Chenoweth Theatre and the second half of our 2017-18 Spotlight Series season! We are so honored and thrilled to have you in attendance this evening in our incredible, newly-renovated theatre. At the heart of the Rose District, the Broken Arrow Performing Arts Center is “bringing the world to Broken Arrow.” 2017 saw so many great changes to the BAPAC. We have a new 4,300 square-foot backstage flex space that divides into six additional dressing rooms, a newly-renovated “star” dressing room, shower and laundry facilities, renovated administrative office space, new conference room and beautiful new box office space. The box office frontage will also highlight new display cases to showcase Ms. Chenoweth’s awards and memorabilia. Spring of 2018 is chock full of our best Broadway show season ever, starting with the Roundabout Theatre company tour of “Cabaret” followed by the mind-blowing a cappella beatbox show GOBSMACKED! Finishing in April is the Tony-Award winning production of “Cinderella.” In April, we will also be announcing our season line up for our 10th season of bringing entertainment to the Rose District. I’d like to say a heart-felt thanks to YOU, our patrons, for supporting the arts by attending tonight. To our volunteers, our generous sponsors, our hard-working PAC staff, Broken Arrow Public Schools, our ARTSOK Board of Directors and the City of Broken Arrow, thank you for making our theatre an outstanding place to enjoy the best in entertainment. It’s an honor to serve you and we hope you make this your home for entertainment for many years to come.

Enjoy the show, Kim Vento Executive Director Broken Arrow Performing Arts Center Kristin Chenoweth Theatre

Your Spot Season winds down with three showstopping events

The ninth season of the BAPAC Spotlight Series is off to an amazing start with only three shows to go! Since 2009, the Broken Arrow PAC has been the cornerstone of the Rose District in downtown BA and continually encourages the community to embrace a variety of performing arts. Brought to you by ARTSOK The Regional Arts Alliance of Broken Arrow and AVB Bank, here’s the rest of our stellar line-up:

“Cabaret” (Jan. 14, 2018)

As part of their 50th Anniversary Season, the critically acclaimed and award-winning Roundabout Theatre Company is proud to present Same Mendes (“Skyfall,” “American Beauty”) and Rob Marshall’s (“Into the Woods” and “Chicago,” the films) Tony Award®-winning production of “Cabaret.” Welcome to the infamous Kit Kat Klub, where the Emcee, Sally Bowles and a raucous ensemble take the stage nightly to tantalize the crowd––and to leave their troubles outside. But as life in pre-WWII Germany grows more and more uncertain, will the decadent allure of Berlin nightlife be enough to get them through their dangerous times? Come hear some of the most memorable songs in theatre history, including “Cabaret,” “Willkommen” and “Maybe This Time.” Leave your troubles outside – life is beautiful at “Cabaret,” John Kander, Fred Ebb and Joe Masteroff’s Tony-winning musical about following your heart while the world loses its way. BAHS Show Choir(Jan. 30, 2018) Gobsmacked! Direct from sell out seasons in London, Hong Kong

and Edinburgh comes the mind-blowing vocal show Gobsmacked! the latest sensation from the UK. This next-generation a cappella show redefines the limits of the human voice. Featuring the reigning world champion beatboxer Ball-Zee and an international cast of worldclass vocalists, Gobsmacked! weaves stories through all forms of a cappella from traditional street corner harmonies to cutting edge, multi-track live looping. Heart stopping singing and jaw dropping beatboxing guarantees the audience will leave with a song in their heart and a smile on their face. Gobsmacked! is the latest break-out show that everyone is talking about – it’s funny, joyful and uplifts the spirits of all ages!

“Rodgers + Hammerstein’s Cinderella” (April 19, 2018)

“Rodgers + Hammerstein’s Cinderella” is the Tony Award®- winning Broadway musical from the creators of The Sound of Music and South Pacific that’s delighting audiences with its contemporary take on the classic tale. This lush production features an incredible orchestra, jaw-dropping transformations and all the moments you love—the pumpkin, the glass slipper, the masked ball and more—plus some surprising new twists! Be transported back to your childhood as you rediscover some of Rodgers + Hammerstein’s most beloved songs, including “In My Own Little Corner,” “Impossible/It’s Possible” and “Ten Minutes Ago,” in this hilarious and romantic Broadway experience for anyone who’s ever had a wish, a dream... or a really great pair of shoes.

Getting the Boot

Third annual Kristin Chenoweth Broadway Boot Camp brings stars to Broken Arrow The third time was the charm as Kristin Chenoweth invited a few “friends” to the annual Kristin Chenoweth Broadway Boot Camp in June of 2017. The all-star faculty included a who’s who of Broadway legends, award-winners, behind the scenes movers and shakers and more, including Chenoweth, Faith Prince, Lara Teeter, Baayork Lee, John Tartaglia, Richard JayAlexander, Mary-Mitchell Campbell, Michael Orland, Bruce Glikas and more. The week was action-packed for the 45 students chosen out of 500 who auditioned. With a Kristinhosted Tony Awards viewing party, Broadway costume dance party, video messages from Broadway elite, new headshots and resumes and the camp itself, the experience changed not only the lives of the students, but some of the camp faculty as well. “Something about this unique group of teens and an equally unique faculty, with varying skill-sets and accomplishments, melded during these six days, where

everyone was on the same plane and playing field,” said Jay-Alexander. The week was capped off with the inaugural KRISTI Awards, where 22 KRISTIs were presented to various campers, based on observations made by the faculty during the week of classes, training, rehearsals and social time. “I saw the kids hug each other and cry after our last night together. They held onto their KRISTI Awards as first-time recipients, and held onto their hearts and friends as they said goodbye,” said Chenoweth. “But as the staff and I have come to understand, nobody ever says goodbye to an experience like this. They take it with them for the rest of their lives.” Auditions for the fourth Broadway Boot Camp will likely be in February of 2018. More information will be posted on the BAPAC website and social media channels as it becomes available.
