welcome back Welcome to the ninth season of the Broken Arrow Performing Arts Center and the 2017-18 Spotlight Series! We are so honored and thrilled to have you in attendance this evening in our incredible, newlyrenovated theatre. At the heart of the Rose District, the Broken Arrow Performing Arts Center is “bringing the world to Broken Arrow” again this year. I am so very humbled to now take on the role as the Executive Director of the BAPAC, stepping into the shoes of Mark Frie, who molded and shaped this facility for the past eight years. The last three years as the events director has given me a well-rounded education into the world of theatre and how this welloiled machine runs. I take great pleasure in offering my experience to you and our community to continue the family atmosphere we pride ourselves on and the continuation of the great entertainment opportunities that we offer to our patrons and students. Through the efforts of ARTSOK The Regional Arts Alliance of Broken Arrow, we bring you a wide variety of entertainment this season that is sure to get you out of your seat with applause. This season brings the 12-time Tony-winning duo Chita Rivera and Tommy Tune, Broadway legend Betty Buckley, the out of this world comedy of William Shatner, our strongest Broadway musical season ever and the amazing talent of six Julliard trained siblings to celebrate the holidays. Needless to say, the talent gracing our stage is unmatched. As we begin the new season, I’d like to say a heart-felt thank you to YOU, our patrons, for supporting the arts by attending tonight. To our volunteers, generous sponsors, hard-working PAC staff, Broken Arrow Public Schools, ARTSOK Board of Directors and the city of Broken Arrow–thank you for making our theatre an outstanding place to enjoy the best in entertainment. I look forward to serving you and all those that step through our doors. Enjoy the show, Kim Vento Executive Director Broken Arrow Performing Arts Center Kristin Chenoweth Theatre

Getting the Boot

Third annual Kristin Chenoweth Broadway Boot Camp brings stars to Broken Arrow The third time was the charm as Kristin Chenoweth invited a few “friends” to the annual Kristin Chenoweth Broadway Boot Camp in June of 2017. The all-star faculty included a who’s who of Broadway legends, award-winners, behind the scenes movers and shakers and more, including Chenoweth, Faith Prince, Lara Teeter, Baayork Lee, John Tartaglia, Richard JayAlexander, Mary-Mitchell Campbell, Michael Orland, Bruce Glikas and more. The week was action-packed for the 45 students chosen out of 500 who auditioned. With a Kristinhosted Tony Awards viewing party, Broadway costume dance party, video messages from Broadway elite, new headshots and resumes and the camp itself, the experience changed not only the lives of the students, but some of the camp faculty as well. “Something about this unique group of teens and an equally unique faculty, with varying skill-sets and accomplishments, melded during these six days, where

everyone was on the same plane and playing field,” said Jay-Alexander. The week was capped off with the inaugural KRISTI Awards, where 22 KRISTIs were presented to various campers, based on observations made by the faculty during the week of classes, training, rehearsals and social time. “I saw the kids hug each other and cry after our last night together. They held onto their KRISTI Awards as first-time recipients, and held onto their hearts and friends as they said goodbye,” said Chenoweth. “But as the staff and I have come to understand, nobody ever says goodbye to an experience like this. They take it with them for the rest of their lives.” Auditions for the fourth Broadway Boot Camp will likely be in February of 2018. More information will be posted on the BAPAC website and social media channels as it becomes available.
