Goodman Student Receives President’s Surgite Award Published on June 17 2013

The Goodman School of Business is pleased to congratulate BBA student Alyssa Freeman on receiving the President’s Surgite Award which was presented to her at Convocation. Alyssa has grown as a leader by taking on a wide variety of student volunteer positions and by going above and beyond her range of comfort in order to achieve the goals of the student collective. As President of the Business Students’ Association (BSA), she brought stability, teamwork, and accountability to the organization. Alyssa was personally chosen by the Associate Dean to represent the school on several occasions due to her outstanding leadership. In addition she was asked to sit on the Dean’s Academic Advisory Committee, AACSB accreditation training, and the Dean’s Search Committee in order to help advance the school’s undergraduate curriculum and experience. As President of the BSA, Alyssa left behind two significant contributions for future undergraduate Goodman School of Business students. With resourceful budgeting, she and her VP Finance set up a Student Grant Program which allows students in financial need to apply for funding to help cover the cost of attending external business competitions. She also helped to develop the BSA and Honorary President Award, an endowment which will be presented yearly to a student who has volunteered their time and contributed to the betterment of the BSA. She has volunteered with several agencies in Niagara and as a result, was presented with the “2012 Business Woman of the Year – Up and Coming” award by the city of St. Catharines and listed as a “Game Changer” in the St. Catharines Standard newspaper. The Goodman School of Business wishes Alyssa all the best in her future endeavours! Business Student Recognition: September 2012 – August 2013 Edition

5 Days for the Homeless raises dollars, food, & awareness Published on March 20 2013

The Brock 5 Days for the Homeless team spent five nights living on the streets. No home, no bed, no showers, no smart phones. What they got in return was priceless. The Brock team raised $5097.10 and $1750 in food donations for Community Care. This is triple what the Brock team has ever raised in the past for 5 Days. More importantly, they raised awareness of a serious issue. Not only do they personally have a much greater understanding of homelessness, they have brought greater awareness to their fellow students and members of the community. 5 Days for the Homeless is part of a broader initiative organized by University students across Canada. A huge thank you is in order to Brock BSA Charities Coordinators Erik Gunn and Matthew Leslie, and BSA VP HR Jacinta Vanderheyden and everyone who slept outside for helping to make this happen.
