WEDDING REQUIREMENTS Application for a Wedding License Application for a marriage license must be made to the nearest Registrar or District office in Fiji at least 3 working days prior to the marriage. Special arrangements can also be organized to suit your travel plans. Document Required The couple must provide the following personal documents to the registrar for verification purposes at least two weeks before the wedding: Original birth certificate Valid passport Divorce papers, if applicable Death certificate if previous spouse is deceased A certificate of Single Status or certificate of no Legal Impediment must be produced ONLY IF: I.

Marriage between a Fiji citizen and a foreign citizen

II. Marriage by former citizens of Fiji III. Marriage between foreign citizens residing in Fiji Marriage applicants from Japan must produce the koseki-shouhon to certify their personal details 12

Legal Age The legal age of consent to marry is 18 years for both male and female Marriage Officers Both religious and civil marriage celebrant are available. Arrangements may be undertaken for couples to bring their own celebrant to participate in the vows and the blessing of the ring but the local celebrant will solemnize the marriage and sign the marriage certificate. Apostille Seal All registered marriage certificate will be forwarded to the Foreign Affairs office to obtain an Apostille seal to authenticate that the marriage is legal and be recognized in foreign countries.

WEDDING CHECKLIST 6 - 12 Months Decide upon the number of guests etc. and draw up a budget Decide upon your chosen hotel /resort and check the availability of the venue If you are planning to have a hen or stag night, why not also do it in Fiji Discuss with the wedding coordinator of the chosen venue - form of wedding services required; choice of minister, priest or celebrant; and the style and /or colour theme for your wedding Contact the people you would like as your best man, groomsmen, bridal attendant,etc. Draw up a provisional guest list Decide whether you wish to take a photographer/vidographer from home to record your wedding Begin the search for the wedding gown. If you decide to have one made, choose the designer or dressmaker. Traditional modern gowns can also be purchased through our local bridal designers Decide whether you want to have supplementary flowers sourced from home - if so, choose a florist Choose whether you wish to have your honeymoon at a differenthotel/resort or on a cruise

3 - 5 Months By now the wedding gown should be organized /purchased, the style of the grooms suit chosen and the suit itself booked or purchased Best man and groomsmen suites, attendants dresses etc. should be organized Finalise your guest list Choose / order invitations, write and send them Decide on accessories for wedding party Decide whether you wish to bring a wedding cake from home - if so choose a cake maker Finalize menu taking into account dietary requirements with chosen resort

1 - 2 Months Check the RSVPs from guests and keep a list of numbers attending. As soon as this number is finalized, give it to your venue Make sure you have valid passports - if not, obtain them Arrange reception seating plan and place cards

2 Weeks Visit florists, if appropriate, to have detailing of flowers finalized Reconfirm all arrangements, e.g. honeymoon, photographer, car hire etc. Wear-in your wedding shoes (both bride & groom) Confirm with attendants, best man and mother of the bride (or friends, etc.) things that need doing after the wedding

1 Week Don't panic! Ensure that you have all the required travel and wedding documents Travel to Fiji at least 36 hours before the wedding to obtain your wedding license Arrange for any hire items to be collected Final checks on all arrangements Have a facial / massage / manicure / pedicure Arrange for someone to return hired suits With the preparation over, you can relax and count on having a wonderful wedding and honeymoon in Fiji
