Finding images and clip art Most all search engines give you the option to search images. With a little help from the internet and print shop and image and do fun programs with them such as the items below. Remember if at all possible try to get permission to use the images by contacting the person/company that submitted the image. On a personal note I have never had anyone say no to using the images I have worked with.

The world of Google: Google has developed and continues to develop many great and for the most part free applications and programs: • Just take a simple item or word “keyword” (try bubble)and run it though the google indexes and be amazed at the different things you can find out about • With Google's free online calendar, it's easy to keep track of life's important events all in one place. Let your family and friends see your calendar, and view schedules that others have shared with you. Access your calendar from your phone using its built-in calendar or mobile browser. Get event reminders via email or have text messages sent right to your mobile phone. • Documents lets you Upload your files from your desktop: It's easy to get started and it's free! Access anywhere: Edit and view your docs from any computer or smart phone. Share your work: Real-time collaboration means work gets done more quickly • Google Earth: take your residents on a trip around the world in real time or take them home. A resident who had not seen his house in many years was able to see it again by using this application. It was one of those great moments we get to share because of technology. • Google + is the Google version of Facebook. It has some great features so check it out • And google asks “What do you Love?” type it in and find out everything about it.

Other Gadgets & Hints: • Great phyiscal games Wii XBOX 360 Kinect, XaviX® video games (canget through nasco) the inexpensive simple games from department stores. Are all great to use some are easier to use by the residents. The XaviX games do not need the hand coordination as much as the other games. • Many of the game shows like Deal or No Deal, 1 Vs 100, Wheel of Fortune, … can be found as dvd games in department stores. They play on a dvd player connected to a TV. • Many games can be found on the computer. These are great one on one’s • Projectors are beginning to be reasonably priced. There are many ways to use this with residents. Games can be projected and played, residents can surf the web together or video chat with family & friends as a group. • Skype, Ichat, Gizmo Project, Google talk will enable your residents to video chat with others. One wonderful thing that came about when doing this was using it inhouse. A resident who loved bingo, never missed a game became bed bound and couldn’t com to the game. So we set up Skype in her room and in the bingo room. She was able to play. (We had some of her friends in the room with her as well.) • If your facility doesn’t have wi-fi you can get an air card or hot spot to use anywhere you can receive wireless phone coverage though a wireless company

• MP3 players are very reasonable. They can be really be individualize to the residents songs can be purchased individually for less than @1.00 on line at sites like Amazon. Ask the resident or their family what type of music they would like and download it just for them. We all know the power of music especially in our residents with dementia. Find out what kind of music gets them going, happy and what helps them calm down and relax and divide them into playlists. • Residents who like to read but need large print can benefit from Kindles or tablets. Kindles run around $80.00 to 199.00 depending on the bells and whistles on them. The basic Kindle has lots of font sizing, can read to them and othe options the residents. Tablets (ipad type products) run $200.00 to $400.00. If wi-fi isn’t available get one with 4G this works like a wireless phone.

• Closing thoughts: You can spend a lot or you can spend a little but the bottom line is to have fun because if your having fun so will your residents, be willing to learn then teach, keep Constant Vigilance! for new ideas and Be Brave and boldly go into the endless possibilities technology has to offer. Live long and prosper!
