Both the couples home, and investment property were directly inspired by the work of Nicolas Schuybroek. His interiors are characterised by an acute sense of detail and appreciation for craftsmanship and yet the minimalist style does not at all diminish the character of a space and gives it a warm, timeless appeal creating an interior environment fitting the brief of an open yet cozy space.
“The use of raw, authentic, simple and noble materials, helps us create pared-down architectures that most importantly have a warm soul as well as a strong temperament. Nicolas Schuybroek

It can be silent, personal, and productive. It can be filled with conversation, partners, and purpose. It can also be loud, crowded, and fulfilling. The creation of lounge spaces within a home takes into consideration all of these forms and works to provide separate, and multi-functional spaces that meet the needs of each of these areas Lounge Inspiration
EXPERIENCE
It’s quite surprising how much time we spend in our kitchens on a daily basis, from preparing meals, to baking, to entertaining guests. While preparing there is a need to feel included, under control, and organised. The kitchen will appear clean and spacious, featuring luxurious materials and characteristics. The dining space is a multi-function area, used for eating cereal alone in the morning, candle light dinners for two, and family gatherings. You want people to feel at ease and comfortable in any of these situations, prompting openness and healthy conversation.
Kitchen Inspiration Your sleeping place is the pinnacle of rest and the choices made need to reflect that. A place of sleep needs to be calming and restful. A bedroom is layered with a personal aspects and provides a wonderful space where you wake up feeling rejuvenated and refreshed

The main considerations when it came to spatial planning was highlighting the view while enabling and embracing the concept of an open, yet cozy space. Inspired by the detailed steelwork of the bridge, effective use of glass partition walls allows views from every major room within the home. The public and private realms are loosely separated with a central gallery/hallway allowing for minimal doors, creating a continuous flow through the entire apartment.

Tivendale Road in Officer is home to three different schools, the Officer public hall, and large residential blocks. Though generally a quiet road, during school pick up and drop off time it becomes a hive of activity. Creating a large and inviting space with plenty of car parks and good coffee will bring a lot of business to Follow’s cafe, and begin to realise the dream of a community building. The existing residence and shed is to be demolished prior to construction, while preserving a number of the original trees.

With the closest town centre 15 minutes away, and located in one of only two small commercial pockets in the vicinity, the cafe is in a busy location. Being next door to the Cardinia Road train station and bus stop makes it easily accessible for anyone.
Outlook from the Cafe
L O C AT I O N
Origins The Cardinia shire was named after an early property in the area that took it’s name from an Aboriginal word meaning ‘look to the rising sun’, or ‘the dawn’. Meaning Dawn is the first appearance of light marking a new day. For that reason, dawn is often used as a representation for the starting anew, leaving the past behind and starting fresh. Representation The name relates beautifully with the ethos of the cafe - giving the disadvantaged a new beginning. The name represents a sense of hope and optimism, inspiring purpose and energy for the new day.
