The program called for a research center to accompany ALCOSAN water treatment facility in Pittsburgh, PA. My design, located at the waterfront of the Ohio River, was inspired by a metaphor of a barge, the water, and a dock. The water, represented by glass, encompasses the main learning center in the building, revolved around research and other elements that support the main goal; to teach the public. The research center also becomes a destination point located at the end of the Pittsburgh waterfront bike trail.
Experiencing the museum as a threshold.
This project was a semester long competition for the National Concrete and Masonry Association. The site was located in Dumbo-Brooklyn, NY. The competition program called for a Brooklyn Bridge Museum that incorporated masonry units. My design focused on the Brooklyn Bridge represented as a threshold. The main threshold in the museum is embodied by the central glass circulation representing the ‘in-between’ of two parts.
