WESTON BEACH RACE
THIS YEAR’S WESTON-SUPER-MARE BEACH race, scheduled for 9–11 October, has been cancelled by North Somerset Council. Gareth Hockey, head of race promoter RHL Activities, said: “I am devastated. To have the event postponed now, after all the work that has gone into preparation, both by my team and all our contractors, has completely floored me. This pandemic will hopefully pull us all together – riders, council and organisers alike – so we can deliver the 38th beach race in 2021.”
AFTER DISCUSSIONS BETWEEN THE FIM, FMI and the local organising committee of the 2020 FIM International Six Days of Enduro (ISDE) and the FIM Enduro Vintage Trophy (EVT), it was decided that, due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, the events would be postponed until the same time in 2021. The 95th ISDE will now take place from 30 August to 4 September 2021, with the FIM Enduro Vintage Trophy being run between 2 and 4 September. Both events will be held in the same areas of Lombardy and Piedmont in Italy.
BRITAIN’S BILLY BOLT HAS BEEN DECLARED 2020 FIM World Champion after the SuperEnduro series was unable to find an alternative date for the final round, originally planned to take place in Lodz, Poland. As a result, the Championship was declared completed at the end of Final 4, held in Budapest before lockdown in most of Europe, with Billy Bolt (GBR – Husqvarna) in the Prestige Class and Teodor Kabakchiev (BG – KTM) in the Junior Class declared as 2020 FIM World Champions. The event in Lodz has been rescheduled for 12 December, as the opening round of the 2021 FIM SuperEnduro World Championship.
CAN-AM IS CONTINUING TO INNOVATE IN THE OFF-ROAD MARKET with the introduction of the industry’s first fully self-adjustable suspension system. Smart-Shox technology will be available on the Can-Am Maverick X rs Turbo RR for 2021. It is currently the only suspension in the off-road sector that actively controls both compression and rebound damping. Smart-Shox technology constantly monitors wheel position and velocity, making real-time adjustments and allowing the vehicle to adapt to any type of terrain after selecting a driving mode: Comfort, Sport, or Sport+. Can-Am claims that Smart-Shox can go from full soft to full firm in an average of 17 milliseconds and it’s this level of adjustment that gives improved grip, better control and increased comfort. The 2021 Can-Am Maverick X rs Turbo RR is scheduled for an Autumn release. LIFE DURING LOCKDOWN SAW sales continue to grow for OSET Bikes, claims the manufacturer. The electric trials bikes proved to be a hit, as back garden riding became a way to keep boredom at bay. OSET dealer Matthew Alpe of Inch Perfect Trials in Clitheroe, said: “We had a real flurry of interest in the OSETs. Kids love them, they’re great fun and you don’t need a lot of space. . Ian Smith, founder of OSET, said: “OSET offers dealers a strong life-time value with their customers. It’s obvious to say, but the lack of noise makes them perfect for urban settings, and as kids grow there is the opportunity to sell three or four bikes. or 2021 KTM and Husqvarna have launched apps to complement their motocross ranges. In the case of Husky, the app needs a Connectivity Unit to be mounted on the machine and this is available for all MY21 four-stroke models and can also be retro-fittted to the 2020 FC450 Rockstar edition. In addition to the Prime and Advanced engine modes, the app gives recommendations for the optimum suspension settings. KTM goes down a similar route with a bar-pad integrated Connectivity Unit. Working with the myKTM app, the power characteristics of the SX-F range can be personalised for riding styles and track conditions without technical assistance.
SX UPDATE The KTM two-stroke SX range, in 125, 150 and 250cc guises, gets an improved power-to-weight ratio for 2021 thanks to a fresh piston and clutch internals. The Sport minicycle range hasn’t been
left out either: the KTM 85 SX gets larger discs and a completely new front and rear brake system. All three junior motocrossers now have a tapered handlebar allowing fitment of ODI lock-on grips. For the KTM 50 SX and KTM 50 SX MINI, the new tapered handlebar allows fitment of thinner grips.
HUSKY REVAMP For 2021 Husqvarna says it has improved its suspension performance by adding a new mid-valve damping system to the WP XACT forks with AER technology. Additionally, new low-friction linkage seals offer a more refined response. As with KTM, the Husky mini-crossers haven’t escaped attention. High-grip seat coverings are now used throughout the range and the TC85 gets new brake calipers and a smoother roller throttle action. The TC50 and 65 have tapered diameter aluminium handlebars.
