DEMAND AND PRICING STILL STRONG

C

onsumer demand was still looking very strong in our August data, with the number of leads 16% ahead of the previous year and a huge 96% ahead of 2019. These statistics were generated during the 18 million minutes buyers spent on Auto Trader Bikes drooling over their next dream machine, or maybe just something simple and reliable to commute to work on! Pricing remained strong throughout the latest month due to the huge demand, with the average price of a used bike standing at £175 more than it was 12 months back. Mopeds, scooters and adventure bikes saw the biggest pricing growth while sports tourers actually went against the

FASTEST SELLERS When it comes to the fastestselling used bikes we are focusing on the top 30 during the period from 1 July through to 20 September, based on the median number of days the bikes were advertised on site. A brace of Lexmotos lead the way – the sporty LXR125 and the knobbly-tyred Assault – with more CBT-compliant 125cc fodder filling much of the list. In fact, learnerfriendly 125 machines made up eight of the top ten and 13 of the top 30. The only big-capacity machines to break into the top ten were Kawasaki’s

middleweight naked Z800 and KTM’s monster naked 1290 Super Duke R. Outwith the top ten, a mix of nakeds, cruisers and adventure bikes fill the majority of positions, with Aprilia’s RSV4 the only supersports example, showing how out-of-favour this sector has become. The overall median days to sell was 28 days. PAUL EDMONDSON Product lead, Auto Trader Bikes

CONSUMER DEMAND REMAINS ROBUST THE USED MOTORCYCLE market continues to remain buoyant, with several dealers reporting stronger activity than last year. Consumer demand continues to be strong across all motorcycle segments, although smaller capacity geared machines, scooters, naked machinery and modern classics have performed particularly well. Unsurprisingly, acquiring stock continues to be the biggest challenge for dealers, with the
