MCIA kicks off quarterly government meetings

T

he MCIA has had the first of a new series of regular meetings with Department for Transport officials, focussing on the future of powered light vehicles (PLVs). Alongside consultancy firm Zemo Partnership, the MCIA has organised quarterly meetings with the DfT, focussed on how the trade and government can work together to grow the UK PLV sector, including electric bikes, scooters, mopeds and E-bikes, as well as quadricycles and other light zero-emission vehicles. The MCIA is also working to make sure the UK rider community is involved in the development and delivery of the Plan’s actions. UK Motorcycling, a forum set up to consider the needs of the industry and riders, also met for the first time to agree common ground and put forward a unified position on key policy areas. Tony Campbell, CEO of the MCIA told BDN, “Today’s meeting was a welcome step in the right direction for the PTW industry. We’re confident the constructive and collaborative approach with which we are taking the Action Plan forward with the DfT will stand us in good stead, not only for the urban settings in which our vehicles are used, but the wider sector too in terms of the role leisure motorcycling can and must play on the road to net zero. “We’re looking forward to continuing our work with the DfT in realising the full potential of our vehicles as part of this Action Plan.”
