he well-known distributor Bickers celebrated it’s 47th birthday in April this year, and is proud to state that the future looks promisingly bright for the Felixstowe, Suffolk based company. Bickers Anglia was founded in April 1975 by Dave Bickers after a very successful career in scrambling and then retailing motorcycles in Ipswich. He also started Bickers Action in 1976, the vehicle stunt production company still runs to this day and has been involved in many blockbuster films including the latest James Bond film and Mission Impossible. The 1980s saw a company merger with Peter McMartin’s Imported Motorcycle Parts (IMP) and McMartin became

The Bickers and McMartin families built a strong relationship which still exists to this day. 1999 saw McMartin complete a management buyout at Bickers which left Dave to focus on Bickers Action and allow Peter to focus on building Bickers into a premier motorcycle parts and accessories distribution company. This time also saw Peter’s two sons, Don and Derek, become an integral part of the company structure along with his daughter Denise. After many years distributing the CST Tyre brand in the UK Bickers issued new

company shares to Maxxis and renamed itself Maxxis International UK plc. In 2005 the company moved to Felixstowe close to the docks with a 40,000sq.ft warehouse facility on a 3.5 acre site. Located next to the busiest container port in the UK allows Bickers to operate an

We want dealers to make a good profit from selling LS2, that encourages them to come back,” added Haskins. We have run three full seasons in the BSB paddock, and without doubt, it has helped raise the brand’s profile. It’s hard sometimes to justify the

Popularity grew steadily, it was the early days of e-commerce (and domestic online access) so to gain brand

awareness we decided to take Motografix on the road. Motorcycle Trade Expo was brilliant for brand exposure, we made trade connections there, many of which we still do business with today. To reach the most important audience and potential customers we took trade pitches at various BSB, WSB and GP races, the further south the events we’d hear “Motografix, I’ve heard of these, are you English?” I would reply “No Yorkshire”, but this did prove to us the need to push ahead with advertising to spread the word. ZERO MOTORCYCLES The history of the future

ero Motorcycles is the world’s biggest seller of full-sized electric motorcycles. The Californian brand has been around since 2006 and has ambitious growth plans as interest in electric motorcycles reaches an all-time high.

Electric motorcycle sales were up more than 200% in the UK last year, fuelled not only by increasing demand for small delivery scooters but also highperformance machines from the likes of Zero, which saw a massive increase in sales over an already record breaking 2020. “Despite some big challenges caused by the industry-wide supply chain problems, we were still able to end 2021 57% up on 2020, which itself was a record year, in spite of all the lockdowns,” said Dale Robinson, Zero Motorcycles’ UK country manager. “There’s been plenty of interest in electric motorcycles in recent years and it feels like

the scales are starting to tip in our favour now. We are expecting the established OEMs to enter the EV market soon, but Zero is ahead of them in terms of the technology and understanding of the marketplace. “This year we’ve seen another step forward, with up to 20% more range and 10%

faster charging on our top-end models. This is gives them a range of over 110 miles at motorway speeds and double that around town and for many people that will be the tipping point they have been waiting for. “Zero is continuing to invest heavily into the UK market and

It always amazes me how far people will travel to come and try out a Zero, and we directly attributed at least 25 sales to the tour last year – more than one per dealer.” The company now has more than 20 dealers in the British Isles, with plans to fill open points in Newcastle, Oxford,

The first bike debuted at COP26 last November and both are fully booked on trials throughout the year. We’ve already seen this translate to sales through the dealer network, with a number of motorcycles going to police, NHS and blood bike organisations across the country,” confirms Robinson. n
