PARADE & PANTOMIME
A huge hit last year, the Myer Christmas Parade & Pantomime returns to The City from 14 to 23 December. A must-do Christmas event for the whole family, the Parade will kick off, led by our Little Drummer Boy, at the Edward St end of the Queen St Mall from 6.30pm each night and travel through the Mall to King George Square where an exciting all-singing, all-dancing Pantomime will be staged. It’s all the ingredients for a magical Christmas experience. Proudly sponsored by
Lighting of the Brisbane City Christmas Tree: Gather in King George Square at 6.45pm on Friday 30 November for the annual tradition of the lighting of the Brisbane City Christmas Tree. Join Brisbane’s Lord Mayor Graham Quirk, Santa and a host of special guests, including Damien Leith, as they bring to life Australia’s largest solar-powered Christmas Tree. And the fun doesn’t end there, the tree will shine its bright lights every night until Christmas Eve, so make sure you pop by to catch a glimpse and get a family snap. Myer Brisbane City Christmas Windows & Santaland: Bring the family into The City to marvel at the magical Myer Brisbane City Christmas Windows, Myer’s gift to The City every year and in 2012 celebrating its 57th year. On display right through until 6 January, the theme of the windows each year is a tightly guarded secret, making it even more exciting! Check out the windows and then head upstairs and experience Santaland – a fun interactive playground where kids can ride a locomotive train, visit Santa, have their photo taken and send a letter to the North Pole. Photos with Santa at David Jones: It has become somewhat of a Christmas tradition in itself – getting your littlies photographed with Santa as he takes up residence at David Jones’ Queensland flagship store at QueensPlaza. The merry man in red will appear in store daily right up until Christmas Eve. Every child who has a photo taken with Santa will receive a Christmas crown. Purchase a Santa happy snap and you’ll also receive a special gift too. Littlies can also jump online at davidjones.com.au/Christmas, tell Santa in 25 words or less what they would like for Christmas, and go in the draw to win one of five children’s hampers! Christmas Decorations & Windows: Take a walk down the Queen Street Mall at night this festive season and you’ll be delighted by our beautiful decorations. Think Christmas trees, shimmering angels and snowflakes in blue and white. They’ve been designed by local artisans, making them even more special. And don’t forget the many shopping centres, stores and buildings in The City that get into the festive spirit by showcasing magical displays. Standouts include Treasury Casino and Hotel and The City’s newest world-class shopping centre Wintergarden. bnecity.com.au

Edward Street has always been the heart of The City for me. My father had a millinery business in Rowes Arcade and I remember coming to join him at work from the age of 3. When I was about 20 I decided to open a store specialising in high-end menswear and found a vacancy at 243 Edward Street. We were there for 19 years before we outgrew the space, moving down the road to the Cane Growers building. Twelve months ago, we had the opportunity to offer an even wider selection of business and casual wear and seized the chance,
I enjoy the buzz that builds when the streets are full of shoppers & carollers. moving to our new, twolevel Mitchell Ogilvie store at 168 Edward Street. We’re incredibly happy here, and our clients are always telling us how much they enjoy the new space! Do you think being in The City makes a difference? F o r m e , i t ’s a l w a y s important to be where our customers are. The majority of our clients work in the CBD, and since they’re often too busy to drop in we make the effort to bring options to them – be it a full casual wardrobe, a selection of shoes or a single business suit. Recently Edward Street has really cemented itself as the place to go for high-end fashion. How have the recent players (like Hermès, Gucci and Louis Vuitton) affected business?
Good businesses attract good customers. It’s great to see Edward Street being established as a shopping destination of international standing. What do you enjoy about Christmas in The City? It’s a magical time of year; a time for giving and thinking about others. I enjoy the buzz that builds when the streets are full of shoppers and corner carollers, and always love seeing the younger generation come in, eagerly hunting down the perfect gift for Dad. bnecity.com.au
