lake provides the perfect dreamy backdrop for a wedding—at once softening and intensifying the surroundings in a glimmering and ever-changing ballet of color. Equally important, a number of lakeside venues cater to weddings with well thought-out sites and experienced planners to help bring each couple’s dream wedding to life. And for those who want to extend the celebration, some venues offer accommodations as well as a full array of activities, from lakeside barbecues to canoe races. Best of all, for New England couples, some of the world’s most stunning and accommodating waterside settings are located practically in their own backyards. Here are three inspiring lakeside venues that would be worth flying to if they weren’t so close to home!

Interlaken Inn, Lakeville, Connecticut

Specializing in destination weddings with 100 to 220 guests, Interlaken Inn nestles into thirty beautifully-landscaped acres. “We have canoes and kayaks on the lake, as well as a pool, tennis, basketball, volleyball, a full-service spa, and a great on-site restaurant, so there’s plenty to keep everyone busy,” says Brandon Scimeca, food and beverage director. The inn never accepts more than one wedding a weekend, so it’s like having your own compound for the whole event.
