General Manager’s Monthly Report Wow! The Holiday season is upon us once again! We have our first traditional Fall Festival planned under the watchful eyes of our Executive Chef Mattie Lewis. This event will be a great feast event- and will be followed by the Annual Holiday Membership Party on December 20 2011. We the Brickyard staff would like to encourage all you to gather and enjoy a wide range of delicious food, beverages and the camaraderie of your fellow members during this festive event. We will send out invitations to all members please refer to the Newsletter for our detail menu for this wonderful event. We recently hosted the fifth Annual Brickyard Collegiate tournament and once again what a success! This great success was due to the fantastic hard work, commitment and diligent collaboration of our members that did volunteer for this event. Without the membership enthusiastic support and volunteer time from their busy schedule we would not be able to offer such a high services standards. On behalf of the Sams Family and the management I would like to extend a very warm thank you to every member that volunteer his/her won time to make this event so successful. THANK YOU! I wish to thank you for your continued support of the Club. You support is growing –over 2000 people was served during the month of October. That is accounting the members sponsored events and the Brickyard Collegiate Tournament players and guests. I recently attended a seminar for the Club Managers from all over the United States. These sessions have been invaluable for a number of reasons-gaining knowledge, networking with peers, and sharing “best practices” Brickyard is not immune from some of the same issues me fellow General Managers face in their Clubs, but I want you to know how proud I am of this Club, from the appreciative membership to the elegant facilities, one of the best golf course on the South and the invaluable staff. It is always a pleasure to work in a place you love to be each day! On behalf of the Sams family and Brickyard staff members, I wish you and your family a safe and joyful Thanksgiving.

A wonderful blend of 60% Syrah & 40 % Grenache from the Rhone Valley. fragrances of fresh berry fruit with smoky, spicy notes and a hint of black currants. In the mouth it is well balanced, very easy on the palate, with a long lasting fruity after taste. A serious wine with a bit of "kick". The perfect compliment for grilled or smoked meats, pizza, and pasta, especially when coarse black pepper is added. Also recommended with Provencal dishes normally prepared with fresh vegetables, olives, and goat cheeses. Glass $6.00 Bottle $22

With November here, it means we are winding down another year of golf course maintenance here at The Brickyard. The course has made it through a very dry summer and everything is healthy going into the cold winter months. For the next few months, we will be concentrating on keeping the course clean. This means that the leaves will be falling and leaving us a nice mess to clean up. Most of the trees do a majority of their shedding during this month and will be almost empty by December. Keeping the course clean and playable will be our main focus the next few months. We learned a lot about our watering capabilities this summer and have a plan for the future in case we encounter an extremely dry summer again. We had water available in our ponds, it was just a matter of being able to use it. The plan we have in place will help ensure being able to use all water available to us. I wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving and we will see you on the course!
Last month’s pop quiz question asked, “A player’s ball in play is lying on a slope. When he addresses the ball, it moves and comes to rest out of bound. He then plays the ball from out of bounds. What is the Ruling?” Decision 18-2b/9 When the player’s ball in play moved after he had addressed it, he was required to replace the ball, with a penalty stroke, under Rule 18-2b. However, by making a stroke at the ball lying out of bounds, the player has played a wrong ball. In stroke play, the player incurs a penalty of two strokes under Rule 15-3b and must correct the error. He must place a ball on the spot where the original ball lay before it moved after address, incurring an additional penalty of one stroke, for a total of three penalty strokes. If he does not correct the error, he is disqualified. This month’s pop quiz question asked, A player hits an errant tee shot into the woods after searching he believes it is lodged in a tree. The player then shakes the tree and his ball falls to the ground. The player then plays his ball. Has the player broken any rules of golf? Best wishes, Michael Kitchens Assistant Golf Professional
