is renovation is of the existing Broadbent Building, located at the crossing of Virginia Ave and Washington Street of downtown Indianapolism Indiana. e scope presents the rst of the two-phase project. Converting this downtown office building into a mix-use multi-family facility. e rst oor includes a tness center, cafe’/bar, communal space for the condominiums, and leasible space. Sense the project requirments only allow for 20,000 SF. of designed space, the rst phase consists of only the rst and second oor of this three story building. Leaving the third oor to expand upon as growth accurs allowing for more residential condos.

As part of the National Kitchen and Bath Association’s yearly student design competition, this project was carried out to meet speci c design criteria. At home the kitchen is where the heart is. e design was carried out with the intent of a family friendly universal design. is multifunctional space allows for aging in place, meeting the needs of a traditional cooking kitchen. By incorporating modern appeal, through the use of granite countertops and high-end appliances, along with proper functionality an ideal design envalope is obtained.

was to convert roughly 12,000 square feet of a commercial building’s basement space into a

was a set boundary acting as an access lobby basement level was the working grounds for the restaurant besides the existing egress and service rooms which were to remain untouched. Design solutions for lighting from the lack of windows along with ceiling height restrictions were the biggest design problems. Incorporating vertical lights along walls and the use of cove lights helped created the illusion of the space appearing larger.
