Welcome to Brunel University!

Accessing the Internet on Campus

Please see information below for your Orientation Programme for the next few days. Should you have any questions about where to go, please come to the Brunel International Office, 1st floor in the Russell Building.

Step 1: You will need your Brunel Network Username and Password. You can get this after you have finished your online enrolment task (on eVision, under ‘My Checklist’). Alternatively, you can visit the Computer Centre with your ID card. Step 2: From a computer, go to http://connect.brunel.ac.uk & log in using your Brunel Network Username and Password.

10:00 - Staying Safe Connecting to in the UK the Internet 11:00 Terry Raj Vass Patel

Step 3: Click on ‘Connect To’ then ‘Wifi@Brunel’. Choose ‘New Device’ and follow the instructions. Step 4: After you have completed this, select ‘Wifi@Brunel’ on the device you have registered and log in with your network username and password. You will now be able to access the Wifi anywhere on campus using this device. You will need to register every device you wish to connect to the Internet.

English Language Placement Test All students MUST attend this. You will not be able to begin classes until the test has been taken.

Brunel Intranet Services (Blackboard and Brunel Email) Once you have your Brunel Network Username and Password, you will be able to access all of the Intranet services and log on to any computer on campus. Blackboard Learn: This is the online virtual learning environment. From here you will be able to access your timetable, as well as other learning resources. (Tip: download the Blackboard learn app) www.brunel.ac.uk/blackboard Brunel Email Address: This will be your student number followed by @my.brunel.ac.uk (e.g. ‘1234567@my.brunel.ac.uk’). You can access this by using Gmail & logging in with your email address & network password. Monday 5th May - Bank Holiday This is a public holiday in the UK. The majority of staff will not be working. If you have any problems, our Security Office on campus will still be operating. You can contact them on 01895 255 786, or visit their office which is next to the Wilfred Brown Building, near the pond on campus. Most of the shops in Uxbridge will still be open, so this may be a good time to buy any items you may need.

Tuesday 6th May - Class Starts Please check on Blackboard Learn for a copy of your class timetable (see on the next page how to do this). If you missed the English Language Placement Test on Wednesday, or arrived late please visit the Brunel International Office, 1st Floor of the Russell Building.

IPLC Social Programme

Thursday 1st May On Wednesday you will be given a colour square. Please come to the Student Centre for your enrolment at the time listed below, appropriate for your colour. To enrol for your course, you need to bring the following items with you:  

Offer letter (or email) for programme Full payment of your fees - cheque or debit/credit or cash (OR the receipt if you have already paid, OR Sponsorship Letter) Passport Valid Visa for the duration of your course

 

Social Event (with free food!) Get social and meet other students who will be studying on your course. Light food and refreshments will be provided, plus there will be some fun games to play.

If you missed the Police Registration trip...

Friday 2nd May Time

Event

08:00 Police Registration Some students will need to register with the police. It tells you on your visa if you need to do this. If you are not sure please check with a member of staff.

Location Russell Building

We will travel to the Overseas Visitors Registration Office (OVRO) in London together. Do not bring any sharp objects as your bag will be searched upon arrival. You will need to bring an oyster card with you to pay for your travel. You will also need to take with you:  Completed registration form: please ask a member of staff for this, or print a copy online at http:// content.met.police.uk/Site/overseasvisitorsrecordsoffice)  £34 registration fee (cash, cheque or credit or debit card)  Two passport sized photographs (cut to size)  Passport and Visa  A copy of the identity page from you passport  A copy of the visa page from your passport AND a copy of your biometric card (both sides), if you have one.

From Uxbridge take the Metropolitan Line to Kings Cross, then change to the Northern Line going southbound (City Branch) to Borough. At Borough, exit the station and turn left. Immediately cross the road at the traffic light. Don’t go into the door on the corner but carry on along the road to the next door on the left. It is signposted.

Saturday 3rd May Time

After you have registered, you can travel back to Brunel or see some sights of London. Please speak to your student guides and let them know. 15:00 Badminton (Sports Hall, Sports Centre) -17:00 Play a fun, relaxed game of badminton. If you haven’t played before not too worry, we will show you what to do. Equipment will be provided, just wear comfortable sports clothes.

You will need to travel by yourself. The address is: OVRO, Ground Floor, Brandon House, 180 Borough High Street, London, SE1 1LH.

10:00 London Trip Sports Hall (Sports Centre)

Visit the sites of London with our student guides. They will show you Big Ben, Buckingham Palace, Downing Street and Trafalgar Square. Please bring an oyster card (with at least £10 credit) to cover the costs of your travel.
