While thinking about the film aesthetic I wanted to use for my series of pictures , I imagined images that I found exciting and interesting. One idea I came up with was the use of elongated exposure. I then began to see images of neon lights at fast moving speeds. These images can often be found in drag racing films such as The Fast and the Furious and the modern day Speed Racer or any action movie involving car chases. These elongated exposure images intrigue me because of the different lines, shapes, and colors the lights form in the photographs. I also like how the objects in the photos appear to be so different than how they appear in real life. The song I chose to represent this film aesthetic was Good Riddance by Greenday. At first I was hesitant to choose this song because it is sometimes over played and is often cliché, but I feel that the first verse really captures the idea I wanted to portray through my series of pictures and film aesthetic of choice. In order to capture the essence of speeding down a high way it was essential that I wait until the evening to achieve the perfect environment. It was important that I attain the contrast of the bright car and street lights against the dark night sky. The central theme of my photograph series is the unstoppable force of time. The first picture depicts a young girl whose whole life lies ahead of her. The rest of the series depicts the journey through her life. I used the neon light effect and streams of light they create in the photographs to portray speed and to represent how fast life seems to fly by. The line in the song that I feel parallels this idea is: “Time grabs you by the wrist, directs you where to go “. The second picture is taken somewhat in her point of view showing what she sees in front of her, depicting her view of the world surrounding her. The third picture is the speed in which her life is passing her by. I feel that the way the

buildings are blended together represent her past and the memories that she may or may not remember. The fourth picture represents the victories and successes in life using the bright yellows and golds to symbolize achievement. The final picture contains various colors of dots especially reds and greens representing the obstacles, internal battles, and hard decisions people are faced with every day. The line “Another turning point, a fork stuck in the road” embodies this idea perfectly. The entire series of pictures is blurry because the future is so unclear and no one knows what it may hold for them. The chorus of the song says; “It's something unpredictable, but in the end it's right. I hope you had the time of your life.” No matter how fast life may seem to people and no matter what may lie ahead for them the most important thing is to live in the moment and that is the ideal of my picture series.

Another turning point, a fork stuck in the road

Time grabs you by the wrist, directs you where to go

So make the best of this test, and don't ask why

It's not a question, but a lesson learned in time

It's something unpredictable, but in the end it's right.

I hope you had the time of your life.
