Town seeks public input in naming new park The City of Oakley is proud to announce the creation of a 55-acre park located north of Cypress Road on Sellers Avenue, and they are asking the public to help name the new amenity. It will be several years before the property opens to the public, but the city is in the process of considering community desires as they determine what features should be developed as part of the park. The project will be funded largely through various state and federal grants and will be built in phases, so the conceptual plans will likely change depending on the requirements of those grants. One of the first ways the public can help shape the park is by making name suggestions. Should it be based on the history of the site or its location as an access point to the Delta?
Please take time to visit the website now through July 8 to vote on one of the following possible names, or feel free to add your own suggestion: • Emerald Park of Oakley • Oakley Regional Park at Dutch Slough • Oakley Regional Park • Oakley Shores Regional Park Engage in Oakley is an online platform kicked off by the city in 2016 to offer the public a new way to weigh in on city projects and issues. Engage in Oakley can be accessed at https://www. ci.oakley.ca.us/engage-in-oakley/. You can see what others are saying and share your own opinion, either anonymously or with your name attached. The city council will review the input received via Engage in Oakley and make a decision regarding the park name during the council meeting Tuesday, July 9.
