BRIEF B HISTORY
rasfield & Gorrie is one of the largest privately held construction firms in the nation. Headquartered in Birmingham, Alabama, our company is the successor to the Thomas C. Brasfield Company, a general contractor operating as a sole proprietor from 1921. Miller Gorrie purchased the company’s construction assets in 1964 and changed the name to Brasfield & Gorrie in 1967.
M. MILLER GORRIE Chairman
JIM GORRIE President & CEO
“I can’t imagine any group that would have been more committed to the success of this project.” BERNIE MARCUS Founder of The Home Depot and Benefactor of the Georgia Aquarium
Initially, the new company continued within the Thomas C. Brasfield niche of small commercial and remodeling projects. As profitability increased, the company shifted its emphasis to larger commercial, institutional, healthcare, and industrial projects, and in 1984, Brasfield & Gorrie opened full-service offices in Atlanta and Orlando. In 1998, we opened offices in Raleigh and Nashville to better serve our clients in those areas, and we continued our forward momentum by opening offices in Jacksonville in 2007, Dallas in 2010, and Columbus, Georgia, in 2011. Brasfield & Gorrie’s success is the result of a strong work ethic and industry knowledge combined with innovation and collaboration. In the first full year after Miller Gorrie purchased the assets of the Thomas C. Brasfield Company, our annual revenue was less than $1 million. Today, our annual revenue is approximately $1.7 billion, and we are a nationally respected general contractor and the builder of the world’s largest aquarium, the Georgia Aquarium, which is a model of project efficiency, superior quality, and exceptional service from start to finish. Frequently recognized for excellence in our industry, we build more than exceptional buildings: We build relationships.
SAFETY PEOPLE REWARDING WORK ENVIRONMENT COMMITMENT TO EXCELLENCE INTEGRITY TEAMWORK STEWARDSHIP
These may not sound much different than any other company’s values, but we believe actions speak louder than words. If you have the opportunity to work with us, you’ll see first-hand that we live by these values. We’re asked all the time, “What makes Brasfield & Gorrie such a great company?” The answer is always the same. Our people.
Brasfield & Gorrie builds unique, quality environments where people live, learn, work, and play. From new construction to expansions and renovations, our success stories come in all shapes and sizes – from 50,000 to more than one million square feet. Brasfield & Gorrie’s commitment is to provide an efficient, worry-free construction experience for our clients. We meet our commitment by first putting the right team on the right project. We then apply cutting-edge technologies and best management practices to ensure that each project, large or small, is built to exceed our client’s expectations.

BUILDING INFORMATION MODELING (BIM) CAPABILITIES As part of Brasfield & Gorrie’s commitment to be the best general contractor in the United States, we have embraced innovative practices and new technologies to increase our quality and efficiency. To effectively manage the delivery process and provide planning assistance, constructability assurance, continuous and real-time costing, and testing of design concepts, we build projects virtually throughout preconstruction and construction. This expedites the process of taking a project from design to construction and, ultimately, to owner turnover. BIM acts as the central hub, providing a foundation to implement a variety of tools for preconstruction. During construction, BIM technology is used for material tracking through barcode/radio frequency identification (RFID) technology and the creation of living design/construction models and a virtual as-built final deliverable.
