Not allowing me to finish he landed me a heavy slap and said... "Fool, that tells you that someone has stolen our tent that's why we can see the sky, idiot"!!! 10GB free data to ‘ALL South Africans’ “Data is a basic human right.” NATIONAL | DAWN ELS In the recent State of the Nations Address Minister of Communications and Digital Technologies and a member of the National Assembly of South Africa, Minister Khumbudzo Ntshavheni, revealed that the Government is planning on providing Free 10GB data to All South Africans. “At some point, South Africa will say… despite whether you are rich or poor, whether you are employed or unemployed, [every household] have access to 10GB per month without failure because that’s what this government will deliver.” – Minister Khumbudzo Ntshavheni. “We intend to provide 10 gigabytes of free data for each and every household,” said the Minister of Communications & Digital Technologies, Ms. Khumbudzo Ntshavheni in addressing a Joint Sitting during the State Of the

Nation 2022 (SONA2022) debate on 15 February 2022. Ms. Ntshavheni informed the public that the government is planning to treat internet access as a ‘new basic utility’. She further said that the advancements in technology such as 5G and the release of a valuable data spectrum, are reasons for the government offering a set minimum data to homes. “A South African household, despite whether they are rich or poor, will be given access to 10GB per month, because that is what the government will deliver,” she said. The government has already raised ideas of giving free basic data to low-income users on the same basis as what they offer for water and electricity. For now, indigent households qualify for 6000 liters of free water, 50kWh of electricity, and free sewage and

sanitation. Considering now that the whole of the country will have internet access, foreseeing then high-speed broadband to be available and accessible in each and every community within the next two years is of high priority. An auction for a spectrum suitable for 4G and 5G networks is scheduled for early next month. Six network operators that are in line to bid on the spectrum are Cell C, Liquid, MTN Rain, Telkom, and Vodacom. It is rumored though, that Telkom has brought a High Court Challenge in this issue. However, The Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA) is going ahead with the plans to auction off the soughtafter radio frequency spectrum. “As matters stand, the auction is planned to take place during March 2022,” ICASA said. According to

Ntshavheni, these six operators will be required to provide connectivity to 18,520 schools, 5,731 clinics and hospitals, and 8,241 offices of traditional leaders or traditional authorities that hold certificates of recognition. Originally, an argument was raised by Media Monitoring Africa, a nonprofit group, that the need to communicate and access the internet became a human right in South Africa. This presentation was made to the Competition Commission towards the end of 2020. This group suggested that the country’s laws should be amended then to reflect the importance of this matter. Their executive director, William Bird, is of opinion that failing to adjust to such, would take the country back to apartheid.

Ek deel graag hierdie boodskap namens Swannie en Brandfort Forum: Wil graag volgende inligting deel in verband met soveelste krag onderbreking. Soos u weet is ek lid van BF bestuur en so is ek getaak as werkgroep leier oor elektrisiteit in Brandfort. Vir die soveelste keer sit ons in die duister agv van geen onderhoud op netwerk.Ons hooflyn is wel oorgebou maar die res van hoogspannings lyne is in vrot toestand.Dit het tot gevolg dat as wind waai en fout ontstaan agv drade wat teenmekaar raak en boomtakke wat aan drade raak, skop ons dan vir Eskom af,aangesien ons geen proteksie meer het op ons lyn by hoofsub nie. Eskom moet dan eers in kennis gestel word en dan eers sekerheid kry dat ons kant skoon is voor hulle aanskakel. Die onmiddelikke korttermyn oplossing is om net die batterye van ons brekers te vervang, dan kan daar net sekere dele sonder krag sit en onmiddelik aan daai deel aandag gegee word. Ek het in die verlede al verskeie kere batterye geskenk maar, vra nou by inwoners ook hulp vir bydrae. Ja dit is baie sleg want ons betaal mos belasting en is veronderstel om dienste terug te kry, maar die ou perd is nou al gedaan gery. Die batterye kos ongeveer R300.00 vir goeie battery en daar word ongeveer 10 benodig.U is welkom om my privaat te skakel vir verdere inligting. Ek wil ook noem dat ek al my hulp gratis aangebied het veral na ure aangesien ons geen na ure diens het nie,ent dit baie keer net breker is wat uitskop en ons dan moontlik gouer krag kan kry.

Soms voel my gemoed soos 'n klimtol ('n yo-yo vir die wat nie weet nie), vernaam na 'n Sondag. Jy gaan kerk toe, of lees die Bybel en sien die wonderlike beloftes van die Here raak. Dan rol jy dit soos 'n toffie in jou mond rond en daardie klimtol het opgeklim tot bo, maar die oomblik wat jy jouself aan enige vorm van media blootstel, val daardie klimtol in sekondes tot onder en jou gemoed is in die grond in. Dit lyk of daar konstant 'n toutrekkery is tussen God se beloftes, en die negatiewe dinge van die wêreld. Ons weet tog dat God se beloftes altyd bly staan, en dat Hy nooit verander nie, maar tog skree die wêreld so hard dat dit die Here se stem totaal verdoof. Ek lees hierdie sinnetjie in die Boodskap raak. Dit kom uit Rom 3:4 "God hou altyd sy woord. Hy bly lojaal selfs al lieg en bedrieg almal op aarde." Sjoe, stel jouself aan media (radio, nuus, TV, Facebook, koerante) bloot, en die leuens stroom soos riviere uit almal se monde. Dan begin die toutrekkery tussen die soete beloftes van die Here en die bose geraas en blaas van die wêreld. Terloops, sou jy geweet het dit gaan sleg as jy dit nie in die media lees nie? Die Here sê in Jer. 29: 11 "Ek weet wat Ek vir julle beplan, sê die Here: voorspoed en nie teëspoed nie; Ek wil vir julle 'n toekoms gee, 'n verwagting!" Die wêreld sê: alles is hopeloos en hooploos, ons is op pad om soos Zimbabwe te word. Dan val daai klimtol soos 'n klip. Besef jy hoe groot die monster van depressie is? Is dit nie dalk deels omdat ons ons te veel steur aan die leuens van die leuenaars nie? Moet ons nie dalk eerder net onsself voer met hoop wat uit God se Woord kom nie? Ek wil vandag kies vir wie ek glo, en ek weet wat my keuse is. Ek staan by die Woord van God! Jos. 24:15 " Wat my en my familie betref, ons sal die Here dien.”

Ook sat vir al die negatiwiteit? Ek dink nie ons besef hoe ver ons al in die gat van negatiewe denke ingeval het nie. Dis ‘n diep, donker, stinkende gat. Bethlehem wat eens “iets” was op om trots te wees word toenemend “niets”. Geplunder tot skandes. Die krag egter van negatiewe denke en stellings op die sosiale media in reaksie op alles wat verkeerd is en loop in Suid-Afrika, veral in geplunderde Vrystaatse dorpe, is buite perke. Op die sosiale media het elkeen deesdae ‘n vrye sê en van die stellings wat kwytgeraak word, is dikwels egoïsties, kortsigtig en nie in perspektief nie, iets om oor te ween. Hoe het ons onsself in so ‘n sielkundige toestand van negatiwiteit, beskuldigings, vingerwysings, galbraak, verontregting, ensovoorts, laat indryf? Ingepraat? Niks nuut word meer gegalbraak nie. Ons sien die verval en agteruitgang voor ons oë gebeur, en meer nog, ons voel dit aan ons beursies. Belastingbetalers kry net eenvoudig nie die dienslewering waarvoor hulle betaal nie. Is dit wat ‘n munisipaliteit aan mense doen? Is dit nie ook wat mense aan hulself doen deur ‘n gedurige, onophoudelike donker retoriek van woorde en ontevredenheid nie, wat ons daagliks op die sosiale media uitstal? En eintlik verklap hoe ons dink en van binne is? Dit gaan nie al die probleme oplos nie. Iewers moet ‘n mens vir jouself ‘n sielkundige keerwal bou en tot die insig kom dat positiewe denke en veral selfdoenaksies ons enigste

redding is. Dit gaan nie meer oor wat alles verkeerd loop op munisipale front nie, maar my (emosionele) reaksie op dit alles. ‘n Gedurige negatiewe reaksie is soos om ‘n klep oop te draai en ‘n vrot stroom water oor jou te laat stroom. Dalk is dit tyd om eenkant te staan en te dink wat ons te doen staan. Gaan ek inkoop in al die negatiewe dinge om my, gedurig daaroor broei in gedagtes dit uitspreek op die sosiale media, of gaan ek sê: “Tot hiertoe en nie verder nie. Ek gaan nie die munisipaliteit en ander negatiwiteite toelaat om verder my lewensgeluk te steel nie.” Iemand bied op ‘n whatsappgroep aan dat hy bereid is om sy buurt se onopgelaaide vullis weg te ry teen R10 per adres. Positief! Die negatiewe huisbewoners redeneer: “Ek betaal die munisipaliteit reeds vir die verwydering van vullis – hoekom moet ek nog geld [R10] betaal vir verwydering?” Hoed af vir die inwoner wat die aanbod van R10 gemaak het. Hoed oor die oë vir die inwoner wat dalk lank gaan wag vir die vullisverwydering by sy hek en so sakgrawers en vlieë die groen lig gee om by die sakke te gaan baljaar en ‘n groter probleem te veroorsaak. Die krag na negatiewe gedagte is verskriklik en een van die grootste stelers van menswees. Ons dorpe en stede kort positiewe mense! Hanlie Gouws, joernalis van Vrye Weekblad (vryeweekblad.om) in haar artikel, “Die krag van negatiewe denke” het my weer laat oplet hoe ver ons heen is in negatiewe denke – sommer hier

in Bethlehem. Ek preek ook vir myself! Iemand skryf êrens op ‘n whatsappgroep oor die aanspreeklikheid van ‘n raadslid in ‘n sekere wyk vir alles wat daar verkeerd is. In ander woorde, dat hierdie raadslid daarvoor verantwoordelik gehou moet/gaan word. Straat X is in ‘n toestand, ensovoorts. Regtig? Het Straat X in die drie maande sedert die verkiesing op 1 November 2021 so agteruitgaan? Nee. Wat van die vorige vyf jaar toe die wyk en Straat X onder iemand anders se vlerk was? Hoekom moet die nuwe persoon daarvoor geslag en gekruisig word, by wyse van spreuke? Die tannie wat oor alles, maar alles neul en kerm. Die oom wat kerm en klaag oor straatligte wat nie brand nie, slaggate, en wat nie alles nie. ‘n Renaissance van nuwe denke is nodig in ons dorpe en stede. Nuwe planne. Nuwe daadkrag. Nuwe saamstaan. Nuwe probleemoplossers. Nuwe lojaliteit. Nuwe dorpsliefde. Nuwe omgee. Nuwe praatjies op whatsappgroepe wat opbou en nie afbreek nie. Nuwe ondersteuning. Nuwe entoesiasme. Nuwe waghondskap vir ons eie. Nuwe, slimmer daadkrag. As die Here die huis nie bou nie, vergeefs bou óns. Met Hom in die hart is geen stadsmuur te hoog nie. Ons kan daaroor wip soos Springbokke. Koekies, kekkel en kraai

Aan die begin van "lockdown" bestel ek koekoekkuikens om self groot te maak. Altesaam 20. Infrarooilig bo-op 'n krat geïnstalleer, groeimeel en hoendertjiegoedjies gekoop. Mense, hoenders kan vreet vir 'n eerste plek! Alle skille word verorber en as daar nie genoeg is nie, loop koop jy 'n koolkop of twee "vir die hoenders". Van die 20 is 11 nou kraai-en kekkelgroot. "Jy kort nog 'n haan. Die een hy is te min," maan my huiswerker, Emily. Malani Reinecke skenk nog 'n haan. Aanvanklik baklei die twee gespikkeldes, maar nou is hul uitgesorteer. Eergister kon ek my eerste piepkleineiertjie uithaal. Ek vermoed die bure wonder waar die kekkel en kraai vandaan kom. Dis koekiebaktyd by ouma Tienie op Kransfontein, 7 km van Hammonia langs Lotspilaar, distrik Ficksburg. Vla-, koffie, soet-, romany cream-, maizena-, skurwe jantjies, Hertzoggies en al die lekkertes soos 'n ouma se koekieblik moet bult. My vriendin, Marlene Murphy Jordaan, vertel juis gister van haar ouma se koekieblik wat bereikbaar vir haar was. Mooi herinneringe!

Ons drink moerkoffie en doop van al die koekies "om seker te maak dit proe reg". Die hen kekkel en die haan kraai. Wraggies! Die eier is gelê. Egte botter van Trixie, die Jersey, se room gekarring, eiers van die werfhoenders en uitgebraaide varkvet vir ouma Tienie se wennerkoekies. Hammonia-winkel is 7 km vir suiker, meel en snuif vir die baksterhande en ander bestanddele. Sononder ry ons terug dorp toe. Koekieblikke boepensvol. Al word dit hoe versteek, teen Krismis is dit dolleeg. Ouma waai en vee die trane met haar pienk blommetjievoorskoot af. Die sakkie het 'n kantjie aan en van al die sleutels effens geskeur. Haar voete is net

Die seperator draai, troetelvark kry ook lekker melk. Die karringmelk gaan hoenders toe vir kalsium en die baksel beskuit word gemeng. By ouma sou jy nooit wegry sonder iets van die spensrak nie. Kiep! kiep! kiep! kiep! Tot die haan drie maal weer môre kraai, is dit nog 'n plaasdag.

Maar soos dit mos maar gewoonlik met sulke ouens gaan is een girl nie genoeg nie. Maar hey, Casanova, wat maak jy nou weer?! In plaas van 'n spoor gebreekte harte agterlaat los die een 'n string kinders! Een is al gebore, een is oppad en die ander een het eers laas week uitgevind sy is swanger! Ergste is Casanova is nou verloof aan die tweede en sy het duidelik gedink dat sy Casanova gevang en getem het. Klitsgras kan net kopskud en wonder wat nou gaan gebeur. Is die verlowing op die rotse? Gaan sy uitvind haar Casanova was glad nie soet nie? Hoe dit ook sal sy, Casanova, Klitsgras het raad vir jou. CHOICE! Dit maak die skelm kyke en geskinder in die dorp oor jy ook nou een van daai is wat sy kind nie na die plaaslike Hoërskool toe stuur nie is. God het Zani 'n talent vir hokkie gegee, Dirk speel rugby en beide beurse het dit finansieël baie beter by die huis gemaak. Te hel met die wat hom nou beskinder. Dis in sy kinders se belang... Dirk was glad nie gelukkig dat sy sus nou saam in dieselfde skool is nie. Dit complicate dinge vir hom. Miskien moet hy net met alles uitkom. Whatever hy sal maar net om sus te werk moet gaan en wanneer die tyd reg is sal hy die nuus deel. Nie nou nie. Nie nou nie. Zani sou eerder in die Koshuis wou wees en vanaand iewers saam met Paul-Ryk die liggies wou gaan kyk. Dis al wat sleg is as jou ou in 'n ander dorp bly. Wel, sy vertrou hom 100%. Hy sal tog nie op haar cheat nie, soos wat hy met haar op Belinda gecheat het nie? Hy't so ver nog alles gekry wat hy by haar wou hê. Sy weet darem hoe om haar man gelukkig te hou...

| NTHABISENG MOHLOKOANA Instructions:

Milk Tart Ingredients Pastry 180 g flour 90 g butter 2 level Tablespoons castor sugar 1 egg

1 Tablespoon cold water Filling 625 ml milk (I use full cream) 1 stick cinnamon 1 cardamom pod 60 ml (or 4 heaped Tablespoons) flour

75 ml (or 5 Tablespoons) white sugar pinch salt 25 ml butter 3 eggs, separated 2 ml vanilla essence ground cinnamon mixed with a little sugar

To make the pastry, sift flour onto a clean cold surface. Make a hole in the middle and in it add the butter, sugar and egg. Using fingers of one hand, work these three ingredients together until blended. Draw in the flour with a palette knife and continue working lightly, adding a few drops of cold water as necessary to form a smooth dough. Wrap in plastic and refrigerate for at least an hour. After the dough has chilled sufficiently, place on a lightly floured surface, and roll out to fit a 23cm pie dish. Always roll from the center of the pastry outwards. Fold the dough over your rolling pin and gently transfer to the pie dish. Trim any overhanging pastry to the edge of the dish and use for other tasty treats. Cover the base with a circle of greaseproof paper and weight with dried beans. Bake at 180 C for 10 minutes. Then remove paper and beans. To make the filling, scald 500 ml milk along with the cinnamon stick and cardamom pod in a heavy-based saucepan. Mix flour, sugar and salt to a paste with the remaining 125 ml milk. Stir in the hot milk, then return to the saucepan and cook until thick, over a low heat, stirring constantly. When thick and smooth, remove from the heat and add the butter. Leave to cool. Remove cinnamon stick and cardamom pod and then beat in the egg yolks, using a wooden spoon. Add vanilla essence. Whisk egg whites and fold in. Pour the filling into the pastry shell and bake in a 180 C oven for 25 to 30 minutes, you may feel you need an extra 5 minutes, depending on your oven. Sprinkle generously with cinnamon and sugar. Serves 8-10.

Start: Donkerhoek Road between Amersfoort and Piet Retief Finish: base camp Duration: 5 different trails that range between 300 metres and 11km Fitness: the first 3 trails are not difficult and perfect for the whole family; the other two are more demanding Our tip: you will need a 4x4 vehicle to navigate the road onto the farm for the start of the hike, but you can arrange collection If a weekend of hiking, camping and mountain biking is your idea of a weekend well spent, then the Grey Rhebok Hiking Trail, a relatively new hiking trail in Mpumalanga, is well worth exploring. The camp, from which the hike begins, lies in a valley surrounded by mountains. The trails, each named after a colour, allow you to explore the beauty of the surrounding landscape. Expect cycads, proteas, three waterfalls, a pom-pom forest, rare tree orchids, tree ferns, grey rhebok (seldom seen), a huge range of birds and clear water pools. The 2km Pink Trail is a gentle walk past a stream lined with tree ferns to a waterfall. The 4km Yellow Trail is up the mountain side to yet another waterfall. The 6km Orange Trail heads up a number of hillsides before plunging into a gorge for a series of boulder hopping, particularly just after the rains. The waterfall at the end of the hike is worth the effort. The 7km Red Trail is a steep hike up the mountainside to the boundary of the farm after which it heads down into a beautiful kloof littered with tree ferns. This is but a brief breather before heading up along the escarpment. Downhill is relatively easy, back to camp. The 10 km White Trail is a steep hike up to the far reaches of the farm past tree ferns and through an indigenous forest filled with stream and ouhout trees littered with old man's beard and orchids . | CORVUS CAPENSIS CAPE CROW APPEARANCE The Cape crow is around 50 cm in length. This crow is black throughout. The head, bill, legs, feathers and eyes are black. This is the only glossy black crow in the region. CAPE CROW DIET The Cape crow is omnivorous, with a broad range of food items including insects, lizards, termite alates (flying termites), frogs, tortoises, and domestic chickens. The Cape crow will also eat fruit and bulbs. It will scavenge at a carcass. CAPE CROW BREEDING The Cape crow is monogamous. The female is mostly responsible for building a large nest from sticks that are brought to the nesting site by the male. The nest is built on shrubs, trees or transmission poles. Two to three eggs are laid and are incubated by both parents for around 18 days, the young crows fledge at 30 to 40 days. The Cape crow is one of the main hosts of the greater spotted cuckoo. It is estimated that 10% of nests are parasitised. CAPE CROW BEHAVIOUR The Cape crow forages and feeds on the ground. Normally seen in pairs or small flocks. Roosts communally in trees. CAPE CROW DISTRIBUTION AND HABITAT The Cape crow is found across most habitats, from grasslands, open savannah and semi-arid shrubland. All of these areas have trees or woodlands for nesting and roosting. The Cape crow thrives in and around farmland. The Cape crow is found throughout South Africa.

Toyota Starlet Facelift: What to expect? Volkswagen Lavida is the Chinaonly Jetta we want The Jetta’s Chinese twin has received many styling upgrades and cabin refinements in preparation of its Beijing Auto Show debut. A joint venture between SAIC and VW, the Lavida is a mid-sized sedan, built on the proven MQB platform. Sitting atop VW’s overengineered chassis is bodywork that now includes larger bumper intakes and typical of a Chinese market vehicle – an abundance of chrome garnishing around the front. VW is offering two grille options with Lavida. The one is a traditional version, with horizontal slats, while the other is more reminiscent of something you’d see on a MercedesBenz A- or C-Class, with a single horizontal slat holding the VW badge in place. This ‘Star edition’ grille has a distribution of small rectangles set against a black background, supposedly replicating stars on a clear night. Designed have applied a similar updated LED light diode treatment to Lavida’s rear

taillamps and there is even a trace of integrated spoiler lip, on the boot lid. Cabin architecture benefits from a larger floating touchscreen, to navigate the infotainment functions, and some optional red accents and trim stitching. High-speed cruising performance is of negligible importance in China, and engine specification is unconfirmed. A confident deduction can be made from the ‘280TSI’ badging, that VW’s 1.4-litre TSI engine is being used, in a 110 kW/250 Nm state of tune. VW’s nomenclature strategy in China indicates status, by numerals, instead of any correspondence to power output – in either horsepower or kilowatts. Drive will be to the front wheels via VW’s slick-shifting seven-speed DSG transmission. Would the Lavida be popular in South Africa? Possibly. But for those local VW brand fans who prefer a boot to a tailgate, a new version of the Polo sedan will become available later this year.

It has been two years since the Toyota Starlet was launched in South Africa and after an impressive run of sales, attention turns to its facelifted version. Here’s what you can expect from the Toyota Starlet facelift. In case you were not aware, the Toyota Starlet is in fact a rebadged Suzuki Baleno. While the latter has been on sale for a period much longer than its Toyota equivalent, the power of the Toyota badge has shown its value as the Starlet effortlessly outsells its sibling. Our teaser image shows a slightly updated front end, complete with the new-look headlights and bumper arrangement. The biggest changes we think we’ll see will be in the cabin and the rear of the vehicle. The Toyota Starlet launched in South Africa in September 2020 and was earmarked as the replacement for the ageing Toyota Etios. Available in a 5-model lineup with one engine and two gearbox options across the range, the Toyota Starlet became an instant sales success. Now attention turns to the facelifted model. We know the Suzuki Baleno is due for a facelift, with the brand’s Indian division Maruti sharing teaser images in February 2022. This follows from a leak late in November 2021, showing the Baleno with a revised front end and newlook rear tail lights. Suzuki South Africa has confirmed this model is under consideration for our market.
