Facelifting Vrindavan Parikrama Under Prime Minister's HRIDAY Scheme

Existing Yamuna Ghat on Parikrama The Braj Foundation was selected to be the 'City Anchor' for Mathura. Since then our team of highly qualified conservation architects have been endeavoring to achieve the goals set by Hon'ble Prime Minister for reviving the heritage of old cities of India. Unlike many other cities, who have taken up road type of infra-structural projects, we have chosen the most difficult path by working on the soul of Mathura & Vrindavan. Hence our projects are beautification of Shri Krishna Janmasthan, facelifting of Chatta Bazar (Mathura) & restoration of Vrindavan Parikrama Marg, which is frequented by millions of devotees from all over the world. Its present condition is pathetic and it is unsafe for our valuable guests, who come for solace to Braj, not to be knocked out by speeding vehicles or

to negotiate their spiritual walk through heaps of garbage. The Braj Foundation has taken multiple steps to revamp the whole stretch in tune with the aesthetic nature and necessity of the city which includes

Proposed Yamuna Ghat to an average width of at least 2.5m, ornamental street lights & signage and streetscaping. Considering the comfort for tourists, Foundation will also build tourist amenities like safe drinking water from ornamentally carved water units (See Fig. 2), public facilities, artistic stone benches, waste-bins & aesthetic tourist shelters along with an information center at Kaliadeh Ghat.

While launching HRIDAY the Union Cabinet Minister Mr. Venkaiah Naidu & Secretary Mr. S. Agrawal said, "The Braj Foundation is a role model for rest of the country because without seeking Govt. funds they have restored so many heritage sites in Braj."

Despite numerous challenges, Foundation is putting its best effort to beautify Braj. The support from local Municipal Corporation has been limited so far. But after the recent reforms by the Yogi Govt., we hope the new Municipal Commissioner will take bold initiatives to remove the hurdles. Fig. 2: Drinking water facilities Fig. 1: Ornamental Signage
