Watch out Bradford – ballet’s very grandes dames are back. After previous sell-out performances Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo (or ‘The Trocks’ to their friends) return with a fantastic programme of dance, a lorry load of costume changes and lashings of diva attitude. Comedy doesn’t get more laughable than The Trocks, but as their fans know, the knockabout mishaps succeed because these hairy-chested guys in tutus can actually dance. With one foot in farce and the other in classical ballet, this is one hilarious night out not to be missed! And when it comes to reviving rarely seen relics of ballet’s Imperial Russian heyday – well the Trocks repertoire is no joke. Wherever they dance, The Trocks jete grandly over cultural barriers. They’re big in Japan, even bigger Down Under in Oz. They melted hearts – and some say the permafrost – in Siberia when they toured to Novosibirsk on a mission to find their natural roots. One thing’s guaranteed: parody or pirouette, The Trocks will knock your socks off with their bravura mix of fun and fancy footwork.

‘The most brilliantly effective spine chiller you will ever encounter. If you haven’t seen this show yet, you are missing a treat’ Daily Telegraph

Everybody in the theatre can hear you scream! Unanimously acclaimed by the critics, The Woman in Black combines the power and intensity of live theatre with a cinematic quality inspired by the world of film noir. The formula delivers an evening of unremitting drama, transporting the audience into a terrifying and ghostly world. A lawyer engages a sceptical young actor to help him tell his terrifying story and exorcise the fear that grips his soul. It all begins innocently enough, but as they reach further into his darkest memories the borders between make believe and reality begin to blur and the flesh begins to creep... Now celebrating its 23rd year in the West End, over 7 million people have lived to tell the tale of one of the most chilling and successful theatre events ever staged.

“Why should you come and see my show? Well firstly because it’ll be funny, and to be honest that’s the only reason. You might have seen me with that tiger face in that programme from ages ago. I won’t have that tiger face on. It was a long time ago. You might have seen me doing standup on your television, it’ll be a lot like that, but more of it and in 3D. Expect stories about Owls, Family Fun Days, and my dog. She’s great. I’ll probably also moan about my kids. I’ll only be joking though, they’re great too. It’s all new for 2013 and it’s happening all over the place. Be brilliant if you came.”

Sleeping Beauty sees Bourne return to the music of Tchaikovsky to complete the trio of ballet masterworks that started with Nutcracker! and the international smash hit, Swan Lake. Our story begins in 1890 at the christening of Princess Aurora, a time when fairies and vampires fed the gothic imagination, before moving forward in time to the modern day. Featuring designs by Olivier Award winners Lez Brotherston (Set and Costumes), Paule Constable (Lighting) with Sound Design by Paul Groothuis, which will take the audience into the heart of Tchaikovsky’s magnificent score in specially recorded surround sound. Matthew Bourne’s haunting new production is a Gothic Romance for all ages; a supernatural love story that even the passage of time cannot hinder.

Following three sell-out West End seasons and rave reviews, Yes, Prime Minister is fast becoming the most successful play for a decade. The original writers of the classic BBC TV series, Antony Jay and Jonathan Lynn have reunited for this anniversary production with a new satirical take on Whitehall. Prime Minister Jim Hacker and his Cabinet Secretary Sir Humphrey Appleby are back, spinning out of control through the collapsing euro and austerity measures in a world of 24 hour news, Blackberrys and ‘sexed up’ dossiers. With the country on the brink of financial meltdown the PM is staring disaster in the face with his only apparent salvation in a morally dubious deal with the Foreign Minister of Kumranistan. Will Jim Hacker and his team of advisors be able to rescue the country from the edge?

Alhambra Theatre Bill Kenwright presents the Live Theatre Newcastle and National Theatre co-production of

The Wizard of Oz

THE GRUFFALO’S CHILD

‘Lovingly & simply brought to the stage’

Monday 15 – Saturday 20 April

Fri 12 & Sat 13 April

Originally produced by Newcastle’s acclaimed Live Theatre, and following sell-out seasons at the National Theatre, in the West End and on Broadway, Bill Kenwright presents the award-winning play The Pitmen Painters. Written by Lee Hall, creator of the worldwide sensation Billy Elliot, The Pitmen Painters has received huge critical acclaim and won the Evening Standard award for Best New Play. In 1934, a group of Ashington miners hired a professor to teach an art appreciation evening class. Rapidly abandoning theory in favour of practice, the pitmen began to paint. Within a few years the most avantgarde artists became their friends and their work was acquired by prestigious collections; but every day they worked, as before, down the mine. Examining the lives of a group of ordinary men who do extraordinary things, The Pitmen Painters is a humorous, deeply moving and timely look at art, class and politics.

Derren Brown returns with a brand new live show. The acknowledged master of psychological illusion will once again mesmerise, shock and entertain the nation. Derren says: “I enjoy the stage shows more than anything else. Live on stage is the best place for what I do: it’s unpredictable, and the audience knows there is no possibility of judicious editing”. On stage as well as on television Derren is in a class of his own, exhilarating audiences with his unique brand of entertainment. For the past twelve years he has created television and stage performances that have stunned audiences, debunked the paranormal, won copious awards and encouraged many to improve and enhance their own mental abilities.
