Yoga Club—Autumn term Children’s yoga is a fun, imaginative way to support the emotional and physical growth of the whole child. When I mention yoga, many parents say to me that their child will not be able to stay still for an hour, to which I reply they won’t need to! Children’s sessions are a blend of activity and movement, with quiet times weaving in elements of mindfulness and meditation. Of course, the child just experiences the sessions as fun. We use stories, music, poses, breathing exercises and colourful prompts to exercise and nurture the whole child. Sessions generally follow a theme with group time at the beginning and end. Connecting with ourselves and each other children learn kindness, compassion and respect for each other through games and partner poses. This is being offered at an introductory rate of £5 per child per week. We would like to offer this as a club in our school but need to ensure there is enough demand for the club to be viable. Can you please complete the form available below if your child is interested in joining this club, specifying which day of the week would suit you best. Please click here to complete the form

Oops! Guitar Lessons Sorry, last month we forgot to include a link to express your interest in your child having guitar lessons. Below is the information and link! Children who attend the guitar lessons will learn how to play the guitar in small groups for weekly halfhour sessions. The children will learn chords, rhythms, songs and TAB. The sessions will be fun and suitable for beginners and children with some experience. Children will learn current and classic pop songs and practice playing together in groups. As well as a fun and affordable way to learn guitar, joining a guitar club will be a great way for children to learn more about working together and make new friends too. If you do not already have a guitar, you can buy a starter guitar for around £30 from Argos. The sessions will be £6 each and fees will be collated in half-termly chunks, so usually it will amount to no more than about £30 each half term. The guitar lessons will be run and organised at the school, so there will be nothing for you to do, apart from source a guitar for your child. The tutor will supply all other materials used and is aiming to begin the lessons in the Autumn term. If you are interested in your child having guitar lessons please click here

So Long, Farewell Having to say goodbye to talented members of staff is difficult. Our core values do not only apply to our children, so it is to be celebrated that the staff are embracing new challenges and exciting opportunities. I know that you will join us in wishing them all a fantastic future, and hope you will take the time to read their heartfelt farewell messages below. Our new and talented staffing structure will be shared with you in the transition issue of the Brackenbury Buzz, which will be sent out on Tuesday 24th June. After thoroughly enjoying and completing my NQT year at Brackenbury Primary School, I have decided to relocate closer to home. I have a new job at Bury Primary School in West Sussex where I will be the Reception and Year 1 teacher. I can’t thank everyone enough: the parents, carers, teachers and especially the children. I have learned so much through a shared learning journey with the children, and will never forget my first ever class and all their smiling faces. Miss Lauren White

After many happy years at Portslade Infant School and Brackenbury Primary, it is now time for me to move on to pastures new! Although it is sad to say goodbye to friends, colleagues and most of all the wonderful pupils, I am looking forward to a new challenge as Key Stage 1 Leader at Woodingdean Primary School. I will be part of the Senior Leadership Team with responsibility for co-ordinating, teaching and learning in Years 1 and 2. I would like to take this opportunity to say a very big thank you to all the parents and carers and pupils, past and present, for their support and encouragement during my career. Mrs Natalie Woodford

My decision to leave Brackenbury Primary school this summer was not taken lightly. I have worked at the school nearly 18 years and it’s like my second home. It is a highly inspirational school where children are not just taught the National Curriculum but are also taught to become life-long learners, a priceless skill. However, I know it is time for me to throw off my comfy slippers and take a leap of faith into the next exciting challenge in my life. I also know I shall miss the children, staff and school community very much. God bless you all. Mrs Debbie Varney

I have worked at Portslade Infant School, now Brackenbury Primary, for many years and after much thought and deliberation I have made the difficult decision to move on. An opportunity has arisen for me to make a shift in my career and from September I am hoping to work in schools supporting groups with literacy and/or maths and also to tutor children privately after school in the Brighton and Hove area. I also plan to take a course in Interior Design which is my other main passion, aside from teaching, and something I have wanted to do for many years! I would like to say a massive thank you to everyone: parents, carers, governors, colleagues and most importantly the children past and present for making my time here so rewarding and such fun. There have been so many great moments, far too many to mention here! Mrs Sue Langfield

I am moving on from Brackenbury Primary School after 3 fantastic years. I am so grateful for all the opportunities that I have been given that have made me a better teacher and have allowed me to take the next step in my career. From September, I will be a member of senior management at Westdene Primary School. I have enjoyed working with all the amazing and entertaining children and have made some life-long friends in the staff. Miss Jo Brumby 5
