Tanzania’s motto is “Uhuru na Umoja,” or “Freedom and Unity” in the Swahili tongue. Located in one of the oldest inhabited areas on earth, Tanzania formed in 1964 from the union of Tanganyika and the Zanzibar archipelago. BRAC started its here in 2006, with the microfinance and livelihood development programmes, creating opportunities for the poor in agriculture, livestock and poultry; its health care programme preventing illness and treating tens of thousands of Tanzanians; and its empowerment and livelihood for adolescents clubs placing a special emphasis on the country’s youth.
