Greening Urban Life: Ver cal Farms

The incorporation of vertical farms into urban planning has the potential to significantly improve people's lifestyles by promoting healthy eating habits, creating a more sustainable environment, and reducing carbon emissions. Combining green spaces with vertical farms can enhance the livability of urban areas by improving air quality and providing a calming atmosphere.

The proposed design of the farm, comprising three parts - the main farm, High Line Park, and food hub - is wellconceived. The main farm, inspired by tree roots, provides an interconnected space for plant growth and nutrient transport, withatranslucentfilmallowingforamplesunlightandvisibility.

A wooden wrap-around corridor surrounds the farm, promoting a green cycle and offering a unique urban experience.

Overall, vertical farms have the potential to promote a sustainable and healthy future by providing access to fresh, organic produce and creating a greener environment.

Lujiazui’s current vegetable market coverage is far from meeting people’s needs. There are only a few wet markets near the southeast. A large and centralized food hub is needed that can attract more people to visit and buy.

As the commercial center of Shanghai, Lujiazui has a lot of luxury shopping malls. Because of their size and the brands in them, a lot of people want to go there. Even someone from another district can come here to shop and spend time.

Small shopping malls can meet the shopping needs of people in the surrounding area. People don’t always come here from a far distance; the target group is passers-by and people who live nearby.

In the near future, as people’s demand for food increases, the ground floor concrete structure will be filled with efficient planting farms, responsible for a lot of vegetable production

Frequent Human activities influence the wetland ecosystem. Becauseofsealevelrisesandwetlandvegetationdegradation, humans are facing disaster. People who live by the coastal area and property are always threatened by the severe environment.

Everglades national wetland field station is a national environmental science station. It is dedicated to wetland research and the future living environment. The lab contains 25-50scientists&maximum50visitors.

South Florida is the cradle of wetlands, For example, lake okeechobee, water conservation area, big cypress national preserve, everglades national park and biscayne national park

Everglade city is surrounded by the everglades national park. This is a tidal wetland. Big cypress national preserve on its above. It is also seriously influenced by floods.

The whole everglade city is covered by many waterways. Ten thousand islands and Chokoloskee bay at its south. Compared with plantation island and Chokoloskee, Everglades city is more convenient for transportation and diversity.

The rise of sea level does more harm than good to wetlands. The current relatively healthier wetland has a low sea level and mature sawgrass on peat.

The saltwater intrusion caused by sea level rise will not only affect the local vegetation, but also will let the brackish water penetrate deep into the land.

The whole peat collapsed. The location above the brackish water formed small ponds. Sawgrass and local vegetation was degraded.

A long-term experiment performed at the Global Change Research Wetland was designed to test hypotheses of how will carbon dioxide influence marsh vegetation.

The canopy of the bridge is flexible depending on the needs of people. It can be fully closed or half-closed.

Bridge support science

The bridge can not only provide a function for people to walk on it. It supplies the automatic sample collection and energy supply. The multifunctional bridge could correlate with a lab on the field. It could be sent the sample back to the lab via conveyer belt.

Focus on the architectural elements combined with dry joint connection and Dynamic shape design. By using 3D printed plaasamoldandconcreteformaterial.

PLA:

Reducing the use of formwork through fused deposition modeling of PLA. We could recycle the pla waste for future mold printing. FDM printed form work for concrete provide an alternative to traditional concrete formwork by allowing for greaterGEOMETRICFLEXIBILITY

CONCRETE:

It is used in the construction industry today for low cost and considerable strength as a composite building material, allowing the designer to work with any dynamic form.

Intermsofapplicationtoactualbuildingscale, wealsoneedto consider the optimization of proportions and structures. Such as adding steel bars or other materials that can strengthen concrete.

PLASTER CAST RECYCLE PRINTDEMOULDINGASSEMBLEFINAL PRODUCT

Experiment 1 aim:

we want to test the casting posibility for sharp angle, complex geometry.

Experiment 2 aim:

we add concrete bonding adhesive in our receipe to test the angle fragile.

Decrease the layer thickness.

Experiment 3 aim:

we want to test the casting posibility for sharp angle, complex geometry.

conclusion:

1. Angle is fragile.

2.PLA cast layer is too thick to demoulding

3.module is too heavy and solid.

conclusion:

1. Geometry surface need more dynamic

2. Less angle fragile

3. Module is still heavy

conclusion:

1. Angle is more fragile.

2. Easy to demold

3. plaster is not appropriate for our design

Blacksburg downtown is expanding with a new project proposal to build a hotel and a restaurant. This will cater to the needs of the growing number of students and visitors to Virginia Tech and the surrounding areas. The hotel will offer affordable accommodations, while the restaurant will provide a convenient dining option. This project will support the local economy, create job opportunities, and enhance the overall experience of students and visitors to the area, strengthening thesenseofcommunitybetweenVirginiaTechandBlacksburg.

ROOM TYPE A

ROOM TYPE B

The original idea of the building is using wood structure and material to build comfort and clear space. It could provide residents and students have a well-being dining space.

space. space.

When we walk into the hotel room. There is a king bed in front of the window. Three different types of wall material show the diverse element in the building. The window act as a drawing. The drawing is downtown. The guest can even sit in front of the desk and watch the scene after dinner or in the morning. The material of the window is Low-E glass. That could prevent much more heat.

Seven vertical rods are used to connect the modular elements, providing structural support and stability to the entire structure.

Joint Connections as Aesthetic and Functional Elements

The structure of the corridor is built upon joint connections, which not only ensure stability but also enhance the overall visual appeal of the space. These carefully crafted joints serve as both artistic and structural elements, creating a cohesive and captivating architectural experience.

"In my spare time, I'm also very interested in character design. In the early stages, I write the background story and plot for this character. Through the plot, I gradually shape the appearance and attire of the character. Two years ago, I got my hands on a 3D printer. Its arrival finally allowed my designs to become physical. When a model measuring about two feet was slowly assembled by me piece by piece, I marveled at the power of technology. It enables everyone to freely create their own characters.

During the production process, I gradually mastered the use and debugging of the 3D printer. I learned about the pros and cons of STL-type printers and their printing limitations. By utilizing the printer's printing limitations, I can restore my designs to a greater extent."
