Als het nieuwe hoofd Landschapsarchitectuur geef ik dus alle studenten Landschapsarchitectuur hun eigen boom, om te onderhouden en ergens te planten waar dat nodig is. Er zijn nu zestig Een bos van zestig bomen. studenten Landschaps architectuur, dus ik heb zestig bomen om weg te geven. Dat is een klein bos. Stel je voor wat we nu hadden gehad als alle studenten Landschaps architectuur vanaf de oprichting van de afdeling in 1972 een boom zouden hebben geplant. Dat zouden nu ongeveer 200 bomen zijn; een echt Een bos van 200 bomen. bos. De bomen die ik weggeef, zijn geen bomen gekocht van een kwekerij. Ik heb ze buiten gevonden en gered. Je kunt dit soort bomen overal vinden; zoals deze babyboompjes van populieren die aan weerzijden van het fietspad in Westerpark staan. De bermen met heel jonge bomen werden precies twee dagen voor mijn inauguratie weggemaaid. De meeste bomen zijn echter afkomstig uit de tuin en de omgeving van mijn vakantiehuis in Frankrijk. Ik heb ze opnieuw geplant. Bijna allemaal hebben ze een rare vorm, omdat ze eerder zijn weggemaaid, of probeerden te groeien op ongebruikelijke en onmogelijke plekken. Deze arme bomen hebben al heel wat meegemaakt: ze zijn opnieuw geplant en twee keer van plaats veranderd voordat ze hier aankwamen, gedurende de hete en droge lente en zomer van 2018. Ik hoop dat alle studenten hun boom mee naar huis nemen, onderhouden en in het juiste seizoen planten, op een plek die de boom in staat stelt om te groeien. Elke boom is belangrijk. Deze onderneming bleek meer voeten in de aarde te hebben dan ik van te voren dacht. Ik heb waarschijnlijk veel fouten gemaakt, maar ook veel geleerd. Dank voor alle hulp die ik tijdens dit project heb gekregen. Zoals je je kunt voorstellen, was het echt teamwerk, met onze Franse buurjongen Milo als de beste onderhoudshulp ooit.
So, as the new head of Landscape Architecture, I am giving all landscape architecture students their own tree to take care of, and to plant somewhere where it is needed. There are now sixty landscape A forest of 60 trees. architecture students, so I have sixty trees to give away. That’s a small forest. Just imagine what we would have had if all landscape architecture students of the Academy would have planted one tree since the start of our department in 1972. That would have been A forest of 200 trees. about two hundred trees; a genuine forest. The trees that I am giving away are not nursery trees that I bought. I found them outside and rescued them. You can find these sorts of trees everywhere; like the poplar baby trees at the side of the bicycle path in Westerpark. This zone with all these baby trees was mown away just two days before my inauguration. I took most of the trees from the garden of our holiday house in France and replanted them. Nearly all of them are oddly shaped, as they have been mown away before, or tried to grow on a strange and impossible spot. These poor trees have gone through a lot already, having been replanted and moved twice before coming here, and enduring the hot and dry spring and summer of 2018. I am hoping that all students take their own tree home, take care of it and plant it at the right moment of the year, in the right spot and circumstances so that it can grow. Every one of these trees is going to make a difference. To make this possible was a bigger project than I thought beforehand, I probably made lots of mistakes, but I learned a lot as well. Thanks for all the help I got during this project. As you can imagine, it has been quite a team effort, with our French neighbour Milo as the best maintenance aid ever. 43
