THE L E GE N D S

OF T H E FA LL

It has been 25 years since our first day in business. In celebration, our Legends of the Fall case this year recognizes the historic wines that set the foundation for the high-scoring and iconic wines that followed. These leaders were cult before the idea of a cult wine had even been coined. This is one of our most popular offerings, reliably selling out before the holidays. A collection of 12 elite, artisan, collectible Cabernet Sauvignons that have made Napa the world-class region it is today. There is simply no better gift to yourself, a friend, or a cherished colleague. This delivery-inclusive collection comes in a handsome branded Bounty Hunter Gift box that makes an impression of its own. WS

94

We are proud of the track record for our flagship brand. Andy Beckstoffer’s and To Kalon vineyard is Napa Valley royalty, first recognized for its greatness in the 19th century. It is one of the most purely alluvial vineyard sites in the valley, making them true Napa Valley Grand Crus. Over 15 vintages have been crafted expressly for Bounty Hunter, and they hang with the very best of Napa Valley. Integrity, quality, honesty and trust are the core values of Bounty Hunter and the mantra for the Justice label.

‘15 Beringer ‘Private Reserve’ Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley

WS

94

One of the first wineries in the Napa Valley, Beringer has led the way since the 1800’s. The Private Reserve is their attempt to make one of Napa’s finest Cabernets. We and James Suckling think they have succeeded, “The spice and walnut aromas are so enticing...Full-bodied, dense and layered with fantastic tension and seamless tannins.” Is it any wonder why Berringer has been considered one of the greats of Napa for so long?

‘16 Beaulieu Vineyard ‘Georges de Latour Private Reserve’ Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley

WA

97

BV ‘Georges de Latour’ Private Reserve Cabernet has been lauded as Napa’s original “cult Cabernet” – the one that started it all. Nearly seventy six years since its initial launch, the 2016 Cabernet is built to age for decades. The Wine Advocate notes “warm cassis, crushed red and black plums and kirsch with floral hints of roses and candied violets” – more of that classic Rutherford fruit! A stunning benchmark Napa Cabernet that continues to deliver some of the best wine in the Valley. Cheers to that!

‘16 Quintessa ‘Proprietary Red’ Napa Valley

WA 97+

JS

98

The quintessence of Rutherford’s east side, this 2016 will make you swoon with its aromas of crème de cassis, blueberries and black cherries. The Wine Advocate notes “The profound black and blue fruits build slowly in the mouth, achieving great energy and depth with a beautiful velvety frame, finishing long and perfumed.” It’s a Napa Valley first growth in our book! This could be Quintessa’s best vintage yet!

‘17 Far Niente Cabernet Sauvignon, Oakville-Napa Valley Far Niente Cabernet Sauvignon is a benchmark of Oakville, a stellar track record, formidable location, and great vintage pedigree all add up to another winner. This is the big, bold, unapologetic style of in your face Cabernet that we love, mixed berry fruit, lightly toasted oak, sweet licorice, it is well-structured and polished. However, be careful serving this to unseasoned drinkers’, it will get them hooked.

‘15 Lithology Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley

VN

93

The product of a Napa Valley “dream team”— Philippe Melka, Michel Rolland, and Matt Sands—how could this wine be anything but extraordinary? Sourced from iconic vineyards in Oakville, Rutherford, and St. Helena, this is a beauty, blooming from the glass with fresh and dried blackcurrants, mocha, and poached black cherries. We have a scant allocation to share with you from this thoroughly exciting, emerging cult!

‘13 Heitz ‘Martha’s Vineyard’ Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley

JS

95

WINE

‘15 Poetic Justice ‘Beckstoffer To Kalon’ Red Wine, Napa Valley

Since 1966 Heitz Martha’s Vineyard has been one of the most recognized vineyards in Napa. There is an easy charm to this wine, exuding sweet blackberries, ripe cherry, cocoa powder, and mint leaf as it demurely opens up in the glass. Take patience with this wine, its shyness is not a lack of character rather a hidden strength that grows with time. WS

‘15 Caymus ‘Special Selection’ Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley

95

Napa Valley superstar, Chuck Wagner has done it again; he’s produced one of the finest Special Selections we’ve seen in years. Caymus Special Selection is the only wine to be named Wine Spectator’s Wine of the Year - TWICE. Could this highly rated 2015 vintage become the 3rd? This unapologetic hedonistic style is layered with black cherry, figs, boysenberry, cassis and dusty spice notes.

‘14 Silver Oak Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley

While many wineries with Silver Oak’s track record and feverish demand are content to rest on their laurels and coast, this Oakville institution has invested millions in making their flagship Napa wine better than ever—and it shows in their terrific 2014 Napa Valley Cabernet. It boasts aromas and flavors of coconut, candied huckleberry, black cherry, spicy mocha, and Chambord. It’s a classic!

‘16 Robert Mondavi ‘To Kalon Reserve’ Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley

WA 96+

It doesn’t get any better than this for Cab lovers. The 2016 is a brooding, dense and structured wine that delivers concentration and backbone that will allow for 30 years of cellaring – if you can holdout that long! The Wine Advocate adds, “Its deep purple color is followed by rocking notes of blackberries, black cherries, smoke tobacco, black licorice, and crushed rocks.” It’s been a great 25 years offering this Cabernet treasure to our customers and here’s to another 25 more! WA 95 JS ‘16 Shafer ‘One Point Five’ Cabernet Sauvignon, Stags Leap District, Napa Valley

95

Shafer’s “One Point Five” is 100% Stags Leap Cabernet from their estate and honors the combined one and a half lifetimes of experience of father John Shafer and son Doug Shafer. The wine is another huge success in 2016, and as The Wine Advocate proclaimed, it “gives up intense Black Forest cake, blackberry pie and blackcurrant cordial scents with hints of licorice, eucalyptus, espresso, tar and chargrilled beef.” Consistently one of the finest cabernets from Stags Leap each year.

‘16 Cakebread ‘Benchlands Select’ Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley

WA

94

JD

95

Coming from prime vineyard sites in Oakville and Rutherford, this is fantastic Cabernet with Reserve level fruit. Jeb Dunnuck adds “It’s similarly inky colored and has terrific, flowery blue and black fruits, loads of incense, spice, and tobacco, full body, building tannins, and a great, great finish.” A spectacular wine that has earned its spot in our Legends of the Fall collection!

SHAFER VINEYARDS

John Shafer was part of a groundbreaking generation that came to Napa Valley in the late 1960s and early 1970s and transformed the region into the world-class wine producing area it is today. In 1978 his creation of the first Shafer Vineyards wine set the foundation of the legend that is Shafer Hillside Select. He was instrumental in the creation of the Stags Leap District AVA in 1985. The wine world was saddened by the passing of John Shafer at the age of 94 in March this year. John was a mentor and friend to many in the wine community and he worked hard to support many nonprofits to ensure that everyone had access to health care, education, and housing. We are extremely grateful to have had the opportunity to work with him, he will be missed.

‘16 Shafer ‘Relentless’ Syrah, Napa Valley A rich elegant blend originating from a rugged, sloping vineyard planted in the chaparral foothills of the Vaca Mountains. This site produces a consistently rich and elegant wine. It has a tenacious backbone of Syrah dominated flavors with blueberry, smoke and char aromas leading to an opulent palate of bramble fruit, black pepper, and bacon. It certainly lives up to its name.

‘17 Shafer ‘Red Shoulder’ Chardonnay, Carneros From Shafer’s gold standard site in Carneros, this wine is generously oaked but does not undergo malolactic fermentation, so it always has crisp acidity to go with its full body and tropical fruit. So succulent, dripping with fresh comice pear fruit, this cries out for a pairing like a Dungeness crab, fennel, and citrus salad!

‘15 Shafer ‘Hillside Select’ Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley The sheer rock towers of the Stags Leap palisades reflect the afternoon sun creating small berries and tiny yields, resulting in the lush intense Cabernet Sauvignon that is the hallmark of Hillside Select. Always a favorite of ours with its crushed black cherries, dried rose petals, and baking spice. The powerful fruit and sublime tannins constantly leave us breathless.

‘17 Kosta Browne ‘Russian River Valley’ Pinot Noir Thought of by many as the beating heartland of California Pinot Noir, the Russian River Valley is influenced by cooling fog in the mornings and late afternoons which drives a more reticent style dominated by ripe red fruits. Lush raspberry and red cherry with light mulled spices dance lightly in this wine. The full mouthfeel is seamless and supple making this wine an absolute joy to drink.

WINE

Sourced from vineyards in the southern part of Sonoma Coast near the Petaluma Wind Gap and the San Pablo Bay, the cool Pacific Ocean breezes give this wine focus with deep flavors and a rich texture. Black raspberries, cassis, and crushed violets swirl on the nose and palate, the finish is light sweet earth and spice box denouement. Satisfyingly delicious.

KOSTA B R O W N

Kosta Browne is one of the biggest names in California Pinot Noir, an iconic brand that defines an era of California Pinot Noir style. Founded in 1997 by Dan Kosta and Michael Browne, sommeliers who saved money from their tips to finance the first vintage. What makes these wines some of the most sought after Pinots from California? Is it the long waiting list? The fact that almost 90% of their wines are sold directly from the winery? The limited allocation available each year? It matters not, these wines are the intense elegance of Pinot Noir personified. A limited percentage of production is available to the broad market, and current wait-list time is over 3 years for these beauties. We have done the waiting for you, skip ahead of the line and take advantage of our allocation.

INSIGNIA

JOSEPH PHELPS

A N A PA VA L L E Y I C O N O C L A S T Consistency is a rare commodity these days, especially in the wine business, because it requires a cold fidelity to excellence and perseverance against the ebbs and flows Mother Nature brings. Maintaining an impeccable level of quality for 40 vintages requires a dedication very few wineries have been able to achieve, yet Joseph Phelps’ Insignia continues to make flawless wines that are in the top echelon of Napa Valley every vintage. In our view, Insignia is one of the indispensable, essential wines for the serious Cabernet connoisseur’s cellar, year in and year out. Joseph Phelps has long been one of Napa Valley’s stalwarts. They are a pacesetter for critically acclaimed wines. Their focus is on world-class standards, top growers and meticulous cellar triage with Insignia seeing only the best components each year. Phelps has a web of vineyards that would make any winemaker excited to go to work. Napa’s 2016 vintage is one of pure opulence, and Phelps is poised to take best advantage.

‘16 Joseph Phelps ‘Insignia’ Proprietary Red, Napa Valley We were blown away when we went to test drive the 2016 Joseph Phelps Insignia. Sheer power from start to finish with soft caressing edges that keep your palate begging for more. This wine is chasing the elusive Wine Advocate 100 points and will likely make a top appearance on a few “Best of” lists this year. The Wine Advocate describes a wine that opens to reveal, “chocolate-covered cherries, wild blueberries and black raspberries with touches of underbrush.” As with any vintage, this will continue to evolve for years to come, but will still delight if you get impatient and crack open a bottle now.

‘16 Joseph Phelps Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley Oh, wow. We always expect great things from Insignia’s little brother, but this 2016 is a showstopper. Ultra-concentrated, with dense cassis and blackberry. Despite being full-bodied and beautifully round, this has a focus on the palate that impresses, finishing with a soft creamy texture of sweet vanilla and fresh fig. Hands Down, this is one of the best values in Napa Cabernet under $75.

JUSTICE

NEW HEIGHTS OF ACCLAIM! 98+, 97, 96! Andy Beckstoffer’s Dr. Crane and To Kalon vineyards are Napa Valley royalty, first recognized for their greatness in the 19th century. They are two of the most purely alluvial vineyard sites in the valley, making them true Napa Valley Grand Crus. It isn’t just hype or fashion that causes wines from these vineyards to receive legions of 100-point scores every year; it’s the fact that these are simply magical vineyard sites, ones that have helped elevate brands like Schrader, Carter Cellars, Paul Hobbs, Realm, and Myriad to superstar status.

The jury has come back, the verdict is in and Justice is served! What critics have to say:

‘16 Blind Justice ‘Beckstoffer To Kalon’ Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley “Almost off the charts with its potential. I followed this bottle for multiple days and it only impressed more and more with air. Give bottles 3-5 years and it’s going to cruise for 2-3 decades.” - Jeb Dunnuck JD

98

‘16 Frontier Justice ‘Beckstoffer Dr. Crane’ Red Wine, Napa Valley “Voluptuous amounts of ripe cherry and currant fruits, ample spice, cedar, and incense nuances, a fleshy, full-bodied, sexy texture, and a great finish.” - Jeb Dunnuck JD

97

‘16 Poetic Justice ‘Beckstoffer To Kalon’ Red Wine, Napa Valley “It’s another superstar wine from this team and boasts a saturated purple/ruby color, awesome notes of black raspberries, crème de cassis, vanilla, incense, and flowers, full body, and loads of sweet tannins.” - Jeb Dunnuck JD

So we will do the boasting for him.

With 11 vintages of highly-acclaimed, customer-favorite editions of the Justice wines already in your cellars and gracing your tables, we couldn’t be more thrilled to receive a resounding endorsement for the efforts of 100-Point winemaker Tim Milos in 2016. His skill in the cellar and the perfectionist farming of Andy Beckstoffer resulted in our highest-scoring Justice trio of all time!

JUSTICE

2016 was the sort of vintage that winemakers dream of. It was warm when it needed to be to flesh out the wines and get them to full ripeness. It was cool when it needed to be to prop up the acidity. And it rained when it was supposed to with no real impact on flowering or harvest, the two most critical times for things to stay dry.

ELITE VISION

In 1984 Bill Harlan saw something in a plot of land in the transitional zone where the cultivated Oakville bench met the wild forest. He planted grapes, built a winery and set about making one of the first truly cult wines. Robert Parker said of them, “Harlan Estate might be the single most profound red wine made not just in California, but in the world.” Getting on the allocation list at Harlan requires patience. You may not be offered wine for quite some time, and generally only the current release. The opportunity to taste Harlan doesn’t come along everyday and when we found out we would be able to share some library vintages with you we jumped at the chance. We have secured a small number of library vintages of Harlan Estate. This is a unique opportunity to owe this wine from arguably some of the best vintages in Napa history.

A truly rich, dark, and decadent expression is seen here, showcasing the hedonistic side of Napa Valley with its varying strata and perfect growing conditions. WINE

Wine entrepreneur Alejandro Bulgheroni did everything right when establishing his family domain. First, he bought a vineyard and winery just south of Meadowood Resort in St. Helena, where Bill Harlan and his team made some of their wines before he moved into new facilities on the west side of Oakville. He hired Jim Barbour, a Rutherford native who has also been responsible for tending the vines of such luminaries as Hundred Acre, Checkerboard, Gandona, Blankiet, and Grace Family. The winemaking team had to be the best in the world. Bulgheroni hired superstar winemaker Philippe Melka [Dominus, Pétrus] and his onetime mentor Michel Rolland to oversee oenology. Day to day winemaking is handled by Matt Sands, an alum of harvests at Screaming Eagle and Bryant Family. With this all-star lineup there would be no question that Bulgheroni would also purchase fruit from Andy Beckstoffer’s jewel box vineyards, such as To Kalon in Oakville, and Las Piedras and Dr. Crane in St. Helena. We love these wines and are excited to see them take their rightful place shoulder to shoulder with Napa elite.

TUSCANY

Tuscany is to Italian culture as Shakespeare is to theater, it embodies the artistic legacy, the culture, and the lifestyle. The blue waters off the Tyrrhenian coast cast cool breezes over the rolling waves of green grass hills that crash up against the Apennine Mountains in the center of Italy. Here, Sangiovese rules with a tart cherry and astringent hand, subjugating any palate that comes close with ethereal wafts of wild strawberries and sweet balsamic. The near coast side of Bolgheri benefits from the moderating wind and marries Sangiovese with the opulent support of the regal Bordeaux grapes Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc. These “Super-Tuscans” are perfect for lovers of structured Napa reds, the supple tannins and full fleshy flavors are soft and yielding on the palate. Further inland, in Montalcino, where the sea air does not reach, Sangiovese strikes out alone. Here she stands unaided, defiant, and strong with rich long lasting character and a more tannic edge.

Heaps of black fruit, cherry and cassis on the palate combined with an intoxicating nose of spice, chocolate and liquorice. The Wine Advocate boasts the blend “primary fruit. In the mouth, the wine is focused and sharp”. With such high praise, scores and reduced supply for the vintage, this wine will undoubtedly sell out quickly! 2009 BORDEAUX 2009 was a stellar vintage, crowned by Robert Parker as “the single greatest vintage ever produced in Bordeaux since records have been kept.” (Until 2018 that is) Almost flawless conditions allowed the Chateaux to produce the best examples of what great Bordeaux can be: ripe, lush and captivating with opulent fruit and soft tannins. These wines have been perfectly cellared for over ten years so they make a tempting offer to enjoy now.

WINE

It’s not fair being a complete and glorious wine, yet living in the shadow of your elders. Pagodes is the second wine of 100 point Cos d’Estournel and trying to prove it can jump as high. Jeb Dunnuck agrees “2009 Pagodes De Cos is a blockbuster that I wish I had more of in the cellar.” This wine is set apart from other second labels, and worthy of a spot in your cellar.

‘09 Chateau Montrose La Dame de Montrose Saint Estephe The little sister of the powerful full bodied Queen of St. Estephe. La Dame is more whimsical and floral retaining the elegance of her royal sister, yet still laden with plenty of dark fruits and tobacco. ‘09 Chateau de Camensac Haut-Medoc

‘09 Chateau Larrivaux Haut-Medoc How do they get so much wine into this bottle?!? We have been blown away by the perfumed wave of rich black cherry, crushed stone, and dried rose that cascades from the glass. Barely two miles from Lafite Rothschild, and squeezed between Pauillac and St. Estephe, Chateau Larrivaux takes full advantage of its location. Indulge in a glass or two of this wine without worrying about your pocket book.

Robert Parker referred to this wine as a sleeper. Well it has awoken now and wants to reward the drinker with “Big, ripe, juicy wine, the tannins very solid and dark. It has layers of new wood, power and considerable density,” says the Wine Enthusiast. A wine that has sprung from its slumber, had its coffee and is ready to delight your palate. Comparisons to the great vintages of 1961, 1982, 2005, 2009 and other vintages abounded during En Primeur this year. 2018 created wonderful wines with a beautiful depth of ripe fruit and polished, strong tannins. James Suckling calls this “An exceptional year for Bordeaux wines”, and rated more 90+ point wines this year than in the much heralded 2015 vintage.

SOUTHERN HEMISPHERE

In the early 1990’s Australia’s Penfolds Grange gracing the cover of Wine Spectator as Wine of the Year was the international seal of approval it needed to rocket a wine to stardom. It placed Australian wine in the company with Chateau Latour, Chateau de Beaucastel, and Caymus Special Selection, opening the eyes and cellars of savvy aficionados, and for good reason. Grange is delicious! The rest of the Southern Hemisphere has followed suit, New Zealand makes some of the most refreshing Sauvignon Blanc on earth. Now in South America, Uruguay is poised to take the lead with a grape called Tannat: rich, structured and complex, it thrives on the Atlantic coast. These are your new favorites from the south right now, hop to and pick up a case!

WINE

‘16 D’Arenberg ‘Dead Arm’ Shiraz, McLaren Vale The “Dead-Arm” is named after the Eutypa vine disease that kills one arm of the vine, leaving the grapes on the other side low yielding and concentrated. D’Arenberg uses soft handling to display the power and intensity yet retain a pure elegance and refinement. Brooding and powerful like an upset boxer, this wine wins the fight with one arm tied behind its back.

’18 Greystone ‘Grey’s Peak’ Sauvignon Blanc, Marlboro Not your normal stereotype New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc. Loire Valley clones, partial malolactic fermentation, wild fermentation, and oak barrel aging make this wine more similar to Bordeaux Blanc than the fresh grapefruit salad that is associated with New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc. This is rich and textural, stone fruits and tropical guava and pineapple with a soft creamy mouth.

$26.95 btl. ’16 Rockburn Pinot Noir, Central Otago We cannot believe we scored this wine, fewer than 25 cases make it into this country! This is one of the purest expressions of Central Otago, vibrant red cherry and rich mocha jump out of the glass while supple, silky tannins massage your tongue into submission.

’14 Penfolds ‘Grange’ ‘Grange’ is Australia’s national treasure, and one of the great wines of the world. Blended from multiple old vineyards in the Barossa and McLaren Vale, this Shiraz-Cabernet blend must be tasted to be believed. Recently we previewed the 2014 model and were stunned by its sheer power, balance, and accessibility. This is flat-out rocking wine, by any measure.

GARZON

The rolling hills of Bodega Garzón, a sustainable, earth-friendly wine estate, established by wine entrepreneur Alejandro Bulgheroni, are heaven for wine grapes, especially Tannat. Blessed with pristine views of the Atlantic, an unspoiled ecosystem, and dusty, charismatic back streets, the Punta del Este zone of Uruguay is very quickly becoming a new Côte d’Azur for discerning travelers. The soft stony soils, hillside slopes, and Atlantic breezes flowing over the vines result in perfect conditions for creating elegant and complex wines. Modern vineyards. Historic Lands.

’16 Garzon ‘Single Vineyard’ Tannat

’16 Bodega Garzon ‘Balasto’, Red

The burly Tannat is one of the most interesting red grapes of southwest France. This is a fitting follow-up to the 2015 wine that caused such a stir in Decanter’s World Wine Awards last year. “Brambleberries, dark licorice, iodine, oyster shell, dark chocolate, vanilla, baking spices and plenty of tar. Full body, lots of dark fruit, juicy yet structured tannins and a chewy finish.” At this price it’s your new house wine.

“Balasto” is the “Grand Vin” of Garzón, it is the first Uruguayan wine to ever be sold alongside the crus classés on the Place de Bordeaux. Named for its perfectly draining granitic soils, all of the estate’s resources are focused to elevate the quality of this wine. James Suckling said it’s “very bright and aromatic with blackberry, black licorice and spice. Hints of sweet tobacco. A new benchmark for Uruguay. Better in 2020, but amazing now.” This is a true rising star.

CABERNET SAUVIGNON

CABERNET SAUVIGNON ‘15 Etude Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley

‘17 Alpha Omega ‘Beckstoffer To Kalon’ Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley

WINE

While the Carneros Pinot made them famous, the Napa Cab has always been a showstopper. Fruit from Morisoli Vineyards in Rutherford, Frediani Pickett Road in Calistoga, Schauenstein in St. Helena and Meteor Vineyard in Coombsville, winemaker Jon Priest crafts an amazingly complex wine that shows off the best of Napa. Rich dark berry fruits, chewy chocolate bar notes and silky mouth coating textures finish with vitality and lingers on the palate like a velvety and firm first kiss. Let’s just say it’ll keep you coming back for more.

Historic, iconic, and revered. The To Kalon vineyard is the “top dog” in Oakville, perhaps in all of Napa Valley. Countless high 90’s scores and the source for many of Napa’s elite wines, this is the epitome of powerful Napa Valley Cabernet. Veteran winemaker Jean Hoefliger and the A.O. team created a wine with intense structure, dark blue and black fruits with layers of crushed stone, pipe tobacco and bitter cocoa. If you’re looking for the very best that Napa can offer, then it starts right in the beating heart of Napa with To-Kalon grapes.

For over 15 years Chris Carpenter’s flagship blend of lots from Mt. Veeder, Spring Mountain, and Diamond Mountain has regularly achieved high acclaim…and this 2016 is no exception. With big dark fruit, beautiful mountain earth, and the balance that great winemaking brings, we think Jeb Dunnuck was right to say, “It’s going to be a legendary Napa Valley Cabernet.” Stocks of this wine are highly limited so add this stunner to your collection before it sells out.

Tony Arcudi has great pedigree, with a degree from UC Davis a fellowship in Hermitage France, and a stint as Heidi Barrett’s assistant he is poised to be the next big thing in Napa. Tony’s 2016 Black Sears Vineyard finds Jeb Dunnuck boasting, “beautiful wine that has more high-toned notes of spring flowers, bay leaf, forest floor, and blueberries. With full-bodied richness, again, an incredible floral character, fine tannins, and beautiful length on the finish.” Lots of talk in the Valley of Acrudi becoming the next wine to hit “cult” status – get on this one now while you still can. 2014 Tin Star Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley

‘14 Heitz Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley A perfect representation of a classic Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, all the elements you want with a couple you didn’t realize you needed. Ripe black cherry and blackcurrant fruits set the tone but don’t overpower and the the savory herbal notes and gentle vanilla and spice complement without dominating the finish. Year after year, this is a staple that every wine drinker should have in their cellar.

The fruit sources for Tin Star this year are nothing short of world-class—as in some of the greatest alluvial sites in the Napa Valley, in St. Helena and Oakville, which we are contractually obligated not to reveal. We’re so proud of this one. It’s endowed with aromas of wet gravel, cigar leaf, boysenberry and black cherry essences. The sheriff in town and he brought great wine!

When you come up for breath the long silky finish beckons you down again, so entrancing. With less than 400 cases made you will not see as much of this wine as you would like.

‘16 Jayson by Pahlmeyer Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley Crafted from plots in the Pahlmeyer Estate Vineyard, Rancho Chimiles, Stagecoach, and Atlas Peak Vineyard, this is a pitch-perfect expression of ripe Cabernet fruit that the winery describes as having “juicy black fruits and intense red berry coulis, then dried herb and fine powdery tannins frame this well-structured wine. The long finish is tinged with bittersweet cocoa and orange zest.” Drink this now or cellar it—either way you’re going to be bowled over.

WAYPOINT: A SENSE OF PLACE

‘14 Waypoint ‘Sommerston’ Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley

‘14 Waypoint ‘Tierra Buena’ Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley

‘14 Waypoint ‘Oakville Ranch’ Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley

High up on Sage Canyon Road, northeast of Pritchard Hill, Somerston is a great source of vibrant, plush Cabernet Sauvignon. We love the 2014’s freshness, and its pristine, ripe Cabernet fruit. Try this one with a filet mignon roast with Romesco sauce this winter!

This beauty comes from a historic vineyard on Spring Mountain, first planted in the 1880s, though the most recent plantings are now over 20 years old. Look for notes of cassis liqueur, cocoa, bay leaf, graphite, and forest floor, all overlaying a structured, concentrated red that will age 10 years handily.

Hillside Oakville fruit is responsible for some of the most iconic wines of Napa: Dalla Valle Maya and Peter Michael’s “Au Paradis” are two legends from the same neighborhood as our Oakville Ranch Cabernet Sauvignon, expertly farmed to organic standards by Phil Coturri. This is so smooth and inviting, filled to the rim with juicy black cherry liqueur and blueberry fruit. Superb!

‘14 Jurisdiction Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley

Folks, this jailbird is in the pen because he can’t do math. The cost of production on this wine—from its luxurious French Oak barrels to its prime vineyard sources in Napa— makes its $50 price tag taste like pure larceny. Blueberries, black cherry liqueur, mocha, and baking spices floored our tasting panel and caused a prolonged hush to come over our room of garrulous wine scouts. We found a way to stuff $90 worth of Cabernet in a $50 package. Load up on this one!

A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc from three of the greatest vineyards in the Napa Valley (which must remain anonymous for contractual reasons). Aromas and flavors of super-ripe black cherry compote, creamy tobacco, old leather, black olive, and dark chocolate bursts from the glass. As long as the sources remain secret, you’ll get some of the best of Napa for less than 1/2 of the normal price. You win.

The infamous character John Galt would have had an idealistic vision of a decadent Cabernet whose price will speak to those who prefer to preserve capital. And this is the Cab that will definitely deliver that expectation. We made sure to seek out fruit that possessed a distinct character and flavor profile, ensuring the grapes ripened fully. The fruit sources shall remain a mystery, gentle reader, and therefore the question of “Who is John Galt?” suddenly becomes a little clearer.

When Baron Philippe Rothschild and Robert Mondavi shook hands in 1978 they wanted to create a, “singular wine that transcends generations” and they certainly have. Opus remains one of the most iconic Napa Wines around the globe. The 2016, the next beauty from this storied producer, is a knockout. This is a complex and luminous, a mingling of white flowers, citrus and stone fruit. Jeb Dunnuck boasted “This is a legendary Dom that surpasses all the great vintages of Dom I have experience with, including the 1990, 1996, and 2002.” With praise like this, you’re going to want a few bottles of this on hand for when the moment is right.

GREAT WHITES ‘17 Dievole Campinovi Bianco

WINE

G R E AT W H I T E S

Crisp and refreshing from the heart of Tuscany, Dievole is a traditional estate producing classic Tuscan wines. The Campinovi is crisp and slightly savory, with soft floral notes of chamomile, apple blossom and a kiss of soft honey from a year of aging in large French oak. If you like to eat tasty treats that swim in the sea, you’re gonna want plently of this around.

‘18 Cade Sauvignon Blanc Napa Valley

‘18 Illumination Sauvignon Blanc, Napa/Sonoma

Cade continues to impress with every vintage. This 2018 release has soft floral aromas followed by pineapple and citrus fruit. It hits the palate with white peach, tropical fruit and finishes creamy with a touch of minerality. This hits amazing quality and a great price, don’t hold back!

Since the beginning we’ve been singing the praises of Illumination, but you don’t have to take our word for it. Karen MacNeil, author of The Wine Bible, recently proclaimed “Illumination is at the forefront of a new sophisticated style of Sauvignon Blanc that’s the most exciting thing happening right now with white wine in the U.S.” This 2018 has a balance of fleshy forward fruit and a punch of power, a stony mineral edge and a touch of citrus on the palate. Whether you are a casual poolside sipper or a devoute guzzler, this Sauvignon Blanc is everything you want and so much more.

A house wine for many of us here at Bounty Hunter, this is our “go to” white wine when entertaining and it is sure to please a crowd with its zesty, tasty fruit. Pair up some grilled seafood or shellfish and you will love how it adds to the dining experience on every level.

‘17 Dr Loosen ‘Bernkasteler Lay’ Riesling Kabinett How can we not love the man behind the “Rocky Horror Riesling Show”, Ernst Loosen is one of the most highly acclaimed German winemakers today. The Bernkastler Lay Vineyard abuts the Loosen estate house and has deep rocky blue slate soils that bring a crisp and pronounced minerality to the wine. This is a light delicate style of Riesling with pure floral aromatics, key lime pie, and a hint of sweetness. JS

A spicy rye that is bolstered with unctuous notes of blackstrap molasses, cocoa and mouthfuls of honey. A rye unlike anything else, this is not to be missed. 3 bottle limit per customer
