Powerful, Rich, Soulful Reds from Santa Ynez Valley. Jonata

A New Rhône Ranger Icon

riginally established as a sister winery to Napa’s acclaimed Screaming Eagle, Jonata’s first commercial vintage in ’04 caused a stir among wine collectors. Then the momentum began to build in the trade. And when Robert Parker called them “one of California’s most exciting new wineries” in a review, they were off to the races, and the wines became that much harder to get. Winemaker Matt Dees continues to knock us out with his powerfully fruity, rich, structured, and soulful reds from Santa Barbara County’s Santa Ynez Valley. If you’re a fan of massive wines like Sine Qua Non or Cayuse, the following two Syrahs belong in your cellar.

Jonata Winery, Buellton, California

’13 Jonata “Todos”

Red Wine • Santa Ynez Valley

“Todos” is Jonata’s entry-level blend, comprised primarily of Syrah. We had to have it for its beautiful balance and harmony. Critic Antonio Galloni finds it “deep, juicy and flavorful. Cherry jam, cloves, mocha and new leather give the Todos much of its fleshy, pliant personality.” Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate calls it “a smokin’ wine. Full-bodied, supple, elegant and concentrated, with impeccable balance, it offers lots of purple fruit characteristics, spice, dried flowers and underbrush aromas and flavors.” A screaming deal from a house on a continued ascent. Sign us up! 1WJON13RB3T | $54.95 btl. $49.46 btl./mixed case ’13 Jonata “La Sangre de Jonata” Red Wine • Santa Ynez Valley

“The Blood of Jonata” is the property’s top red, loaded with exotic spices and Provençal herbs. Antonio Galloni flipped, rating this higher than nearly every other Syrah in ’13: “The ’13 La Sangre de Jonata is magnificent. Usually a much darker wine, in ’13 the Sangre is noticeably bright, focused and also light on its feet, with plenty of vibrant red cherry flavors pushed forward. The interplay of rich fruit and livelier notes from the 10% whole cluster and a touch of Viognier is compelling. All things considered, the ’13 is remarkably refined for such an intense wine.” – Vinous. 1WJON13SY3S | $139.95 btl. $125.96 btl./mixed case

Limited Wines from Coveted Appellations. Donum

The Pinnacle of Carneros

e’re going to keep repeating it over and over again until every wine lover we know is on board: Donum Estate in Carneros is one of the greatest producers of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay in the United States. The wines have it all: concentration, power, aromatic intensity, and palate-staining fruit. When viticulturist Anne Moller-Racke discovered this cool climate site in the late 1980s, she instantly recognized its potential and set to work planting 70 acres with a variety of Pinot Noir clones, including several “heirlooms” from vineyards like Calera, Hanzell and Chalone. The wines have been chart-toppers from the beginning, consistently garnering huge scores and selling out, vintage after vintage. Put a few bottles of this great stuff in your cellar – you’ll be glad you did!

Anne Moller-Racke and Kenneth Juhasz walk the vineyards at Donum Estate in Carneros.

’14 Donum Estate “Year of the Horse” Chardonnay • Carneros

With only 322 cases made, this wine defines exceptional Carneros Chardonnay. We were struck by its succulent, concentrated mouthfeel and the notes of verbena, baby powder, cinnamon, and lemon rind. There’s just a ton going on in the glass here. 1WDON14CH3 | $59.95 btl. $53.96 btl./mixed case ’13 Donum Estate

Pinot Noir • Anderson Valley

True to form, this Anderson Valley Pinot Noir is elegant and suave, with aromas of poached cherries, cinnamon, and puffs of cocoa powder. Wine Spectator loved its “core of spicy wild berry and raspberry flavors.” Gorgeous stuff, as always. 1WDON13PN3A | $69.95 btl. $62.96 btl./mixed case ’13 Donum Estate “Ten Oaks”

Pinot Noir • Russian River Valley

We can’t overstate how much this Pinot knocked us out. Crafted exclusively from the Pommard clone, this ravishing wine blooms from the glass with huckleberry, turned earth, sweet wild strawberry, and faraway spices. Pinot Noir is all about the magic carpet ride, and the genie taking you on this one sounds a lot like Barry White. 1WDON13PN3TO | $69.95 btl. $62.96 btl./mixed case

ince being introduced to his superlative Axios Cabernet Sauvignon many years back, we’ve gotten to know colorful proprietor Gus Kalaris pretty well. A proud Greek-American and successful Marylandbased wholesaler by trade, he leveraged his Napa connections to produce a luxury Cabernet that could compete with the best in his portfolio. Such was the birth of Axios and its national following; the wines have fabulous richness and intensity.

Gus is a guy who knows how to live Grapes ripen on the vine in Napa. large, and eating and drinking well is never an issue in his company. Accordingly, these wines have a hedonistic and plush profile that we know will appeal to your inner hedonist as well. ’09 Axios

Cabernet Sauvignon • Napa Valley

Axios, meaning “worthy” in Greek, is an ancient exclamation used to this day in the Greek Orthodox Church when priests and bishops are ordained. This wine has a stylish, Bordeaux-style aroma, all about cassis, cherries, and exotic spices. The Wine Advocate said its “Plums, Christmas cake, menthol and licorice all flesh out in a Cabernet that is especially radiant and supple. Deep, sensual and inviting, the ’09 flows through effortlessly to a pliant, inviting finish.” A terrific Cabernet for drinking in the near term… worthy indeed! 1WAXI09CS3 | $149.95 btl. $134.96 btl./mixed case

More from Gus Kalaris ’13 Kalaris

Merlot • Napa Valley

With his Kalaris Merlot project, Gus’s goal is to make a world-class, Pomerol-style wine from his property in Calistoga, and we think he’s succeeded in a huge way in ’13. Cigar leaf, huckleberry and black cherry syrup define this soft, drinkable Merlot and showcases the incredible ’13 vintage! 1WKAL13ME3 | $52.95 btl. $47.66 btl./mixed case

’14 Worthy

Chardonnay • Napa Valley

From Gus’s estate vineyard in Calistoga, this has a beautiful green-golden color and tons of buttery, fruity aromatics, and far more concentration and complexity than nearly any Napa Valley Chardonnay we’ve tasted this year at this price. When asked, “What’s your secret to this wine?” He replied in characteristic fashion, “There’s no ^%$*&^%’ secret! It’s just great grapes!” Well said, Gus! 1WWOR14CH3 | $29.95 btl. $26.96 btl./mixed case

Mountain Fruit, Powerful Wines. Spring Mountain Vineyard A Mayacamas Pioneer

Spring Mountain Vineyard, St. Helena

pring Mountain Vineyard is one of the oldest wineries in the Napa Valley, 143 years old in 2017. This vast hillside archipelago of vineyards, high up on its namesake mountain, has so many incredible terroirs to use to assemble their Cabernet Sauvignons that it simply can’t be beat for depth and value. A total of 225 acres are planted to vine, representing 135 discrete vineyard blocks with multiple soil types, exposures and microclimates. It’s hard not to make great wines with such a diverse palette with which to paint. ’14 Spring Mountain Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc • Napa Valley

A vivid, supple, refreshing Sauvignon Blanc on the tropical and fruitdriven end of the spectrum, with aromas and flavors of white peaches, honeysuckle and fruit cup. Ice it down, get yourself a big hunk of fresh goat cheese, and floor it! 1WSMO14SB3 | $29.95 btl. $26.96 btl./mixed case ’12 Spring Mountain Vineyard “Elivette” Red Wine • Napa Valley

This is SMV’s showpiece, their top wine. Made up of 82% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Cabernet Franc, 8% Petit Verdot, 2% Merlot, this is dusty, earthy “Mountain Cab” at its best. Spring Mountain Vineyard will never make big, black, raisiny ooze-monsters. This is instead ripe but balanced, just a mere baby, with a wall of tannin and black fruit that will take a decade to soften. But oh, the rewards. 1WSMO12PR3E | $89.95 btl. $80.96 btl./mixed case ’04 Spring Mountain Vineyard

Cabernet Sauvignon • Napa Valley

During a recent tour and tasting in the vineyard, a quiet murmur made the rounds among the scouts: “Can we get some of this?” Well, we are Bounty Hunters after all. It’s what we do. This absolutely ravishing ’04 features blackcurrants and wet stone, pleasantly smoky cherries and black plums, and savory cherry jam. It’s a synthesis of the old world and the new world: the essence of perfectly aged Spring Mountain Cabernet. Three words: Tomahawk. Ribeye. Night. 1WSMO04CS3 | $114.95 btl. $103.46 btl./mixed case

Full-Throttle, Voluptuous Wines from the Heart of Napa. Lewis Cellars Just Floor It

andy Lewis spent a 23-year career pushing physical and mechanical limits as a race car driver, beginning as a Formula 3 driver in Europe, where he fell in love with fine wine. When he returned to the States, he eventually competed in the Indianapolis 500 five times. He founded Lewis Cellars in 1992, and today he and his winemaker Josh Widaman, formerly of Pahlmeyer, are making the best wines in the history of the estate.

These are full-throttle, voluptuous wines, consistently scoring in the mid-to-high 90s (oh, and the 2013 Cab was recently awarded Wine Spectator’s #1 Wine for 2016). Our superlative expectations were confirmed when we tasted these opulent beauties. Start your engines – our allocation will fly like a turbocharged V6 on an open straightaway. Randy Lewis with his Indy 500 car.

’15 Lewis Cellars Reserve Chardonnay • Napa Valley

Welcome to Napa Valley Chardonnay with the throttle wide open! The warm, lowyielding ’15 vintage has given us a super-concentrated, full-bodied wonder. It floored us with its deep, figgy concentration and preserved mandarin orange and popcorn scents. Look for this one to get stratospheric scores in the months to come! 1WLEW15CH3R | $74.95 btl. $67.46 btl./mixed case ’14 Lewis Cellars “Mason’s”

Cabernet Sauvignon • Napa Valley

Mason’s Cab, named for Randy’s grandson, is 100% Cabernet, and features earthy, leather, and dark chocolate scents, super-ripe black plums, cassis, prunes, and cherries. Sumptuous and luxurious, like all Lewis wines! 1WLEW14CS3M | $59.95 btl. $53.96 btl./mixed case ’14 Lewis Cellars

Duckhorn Vineyards Masters of More Than Merlot

he team at Duckhorn Vineyards has spent 40 years turning its name into a juggernaut within California’s wine industry. One of the earliest and most vociferous champions of Napa Valley Merlot, their early wager has been validated and then some. It’s easy sometimes when you just coast along on reputation, but these folks continue to hone their knives and show no signs of slowing down.

With a steadfast belief that great Duckhorn Vineyards, St. Helena wine begins in the vineyard, they’ve hitched their wagons to some pretty stellar slices of California nirvana, continually sourcing some of the best fruit Napa has to offer. They’ve also turned their attention northward, with projects in Anderson Valley and now Washington State. The results speak for themselves, as there are few wineries that have a more devoted fan base. See for yourself what all the buzz is about! ’14 Canvasback

Cabernet Sauvignon • Red Mountain, Washington

From Red Mountain, Washington State’s most revered AVA, comes this sweet-fruited, juicy Cab with notes of blueberries, minerals, and huckleberry, with a hint of caramel mocha in the finish. Make no mistake. This can go toe-to-toe with big boys from Napa. 1WCVA14CS3 | $39.99 btl. (Net item - no discounts apply). ’12 Duckhorn “Stout Vineyard” Merlot • Napa Valley

It could be just the power of suggestion, but “stout” seems entirely apropos here, both the adjective and the noun. Stout Vineyard is up on Howell Mountain and was acquired by Duckhorn in 1998, and the Merlot it produced is brimming with chocolate, tobacco, prune and dried cherry flavors, with a superb acidic backbone. It’s no mystery why Duckhorn is so revered for Merlot. Here’s your excuse to pull the trigger on that rack of lamb you’ve been daydreaming about. 1WDUC12ME3SV | $94.99 btl. (Net item - no discounts apply). ’12 Duckhorn “Howell Mountain” Proprietary Red • Napa Valley

Look for this to develop and improve for 10 years or more! One of the stalwarts of their portfolio. 1WDUC12PR3HM | $94.99 btl. (Net item - no discounts apply).

Essential spirits

randy was originally a product of happenstance. Wine was distilled (so it could be concentrated and shipped easier) and put into wooden barrels for shipment to the ports in Holland. Once it arrived, the recipient would add water to reconstitute the wine… but the Dutch found that the spirit tasted incredibly good – even better than the wine, and named it Brandewijn (burnt wine). Thus an industry was born.

Allow us to propose the following examples of this complex and alluring spirit. Driftless Glen 5yr Reserve

1986 Christian Drouin “Coeur de Lion” Calvados • Pays d’Auge

The family Drouin has produced another stunning release in this anniversary vintage. A soft, luxurious honey aroma mingles with almond and cherry flavors on the palate. A beautiful spiced finish brings this one to new heights of beauty. Enjoy after your 30th birthday celebration… you deserve it! 80 proof 1SCDR86BR3CL | $224.99 btl. (Net item - no discounts apply.)

Brandy • Wisconsin

We went on a search for killer brandy, and we found one in the Badger State. It was produced in France and aged five years in Cognac before being finished here in the USA in ex-bourbon barrels for a few months. It has all the classic brandy notes of new leather, hints of dried fruits and spice with an added depth of vanilla, apple core and a touch of oak. A Bounty Hunter exclusive you’re sure to warm up to! 92 proof 1SDGLNVBR35 | $59.95 btl. $53.96 btl./mixed case 1988 Cognac Frapin 27yr

Sublime stuff, and another Frapin bottle you’ll be excited to share with friends (or hoard for yourself – we won’t judge)! 83 proof 1SFRA88BR327 | $179.99 btl. (Net item - no discounts apply.)

CA B E R N E T SAU V I G N O N still on top

’14 Adaptation by Odette

Cabernet Sauvignon • Napa Valley

It’s no surprise that Odette winemaker Jeff Owens, with a “100-point” wine now under his belt, would craft such an exquisite Cabernet-Merlot blend. He worked with some of Odette’s favorite local growers to create this wine in 2014. They were able to source from incredible vineyards, reaching as far north as Ink Grade (on the back side of Howell Mountain) through Rutherford for Cabernet Sauvignon, all the way down to Stags Leap for Merlot. Boasting the essence of black cherry and black figs, and a hint of mocha froth, this will warm you on a cold winter night. 1WADA14CS3 | $54.99 btl. (Net item - no discounts apply).

Gamble Family Vineyards, Oakville

’13 Gamble Family Vineyards

Cabernet Sauvignon • Napa Valley

The Gamble family is one of the largest landowners in Oakville, so they have no shortage of prime Cabernet Sauvignon vineyards to use to craft this exquisite Cab, shrouded in aromas and flavors of walnut, cedar, dried dark cherries, and puffs of espresso and cocoa. It’s a delicious wine for drinking now, or even giving a five-year time-out in your cool cellar. Classic Oakville. 1WGAM13CS3 | $49.95 btl. $44.96 btl./mixed case ’13 Lang & Reed

Cabernet Franc • North Coast

Tracey and John Skupny, we salute you! The Skupnys have made a smooth, drinkable, luxurious Cab Franc in 2013 from multiple vineyards. This wine is such an excellent synthesis of California fruit with the grace and delicacy of the Loire: look for black plums, violets, and the perfume of freshly crushed, juicy raspberries. Bring your “A” game to your next dinner party, and pair this with a tea-smoked duck with hoisin. 1WLRE13CS3 | $27.95 btl. $25.16 btl./mixed case ’13 Mark Herold “Brown Label”

Cabernet Sauvignon • Napa Valley

Mark Herold made his name as the winemaker for Merus, and today is making waves with his eponymous label. This 100% Cabernet Sauvignon comes from multiple sites in the valley, and it’s presented in Mark’s fullthrottle style, superripe and fleshy, with a firm tannic backbone and notes of cinnamon and clove. It’s Cabernet for the Amarone lover, done in style. 1WMHE13CS3BL | $94.95 btl. $85.46 btl./mixed case 16 To order, call 800.943.9463 or visit

CABERNET SAUVIGNON the king of the valley

Martin Estate

t’s tough to find a Napa Valley winery more loaded with personality than Martin Estate. Greg and Petra Martin live in a converted old ghost winery in Rutherford, constructed in 1887, where Georges de Latour made the first Beaulieu wine in 1909. Martin Estate, Rutherford

’14 Martin Estate “Bacchanal” Cabernet Sauvignon • Napa Valley

Pristine Rutherford fruit finds its best expression in the skilled hands of Aaron Pott, who employed a blend of neutral French oak casks, open-topped new French oak barrels and concrete tanks to lend diversity to the 100% estate-grown fruit. Each lot was pressed in a small basket press giving the winemaker acute control over which lots makes the cut. The wines coming from this property never see excessive oak or handling, and it shows in Bacchanal’s clean lines and elegant, dusty, cassis-laden palate. 1WMES14CS3B | $47.95 btl. $43.16 btl./mixed case

’12 Oakville Cross

Cabernet Sauvignon • Oakville

When Jack and Ruthie Rydman relocated to Oakville in 1973, they had no idea they’d landed right in the heart of cult Cabernet Sauvignon country. Their first vintage met with rave reviews, and this eighth release possesses the structure, acidity and just plain delicious black fruit flavors to outdo its predecessor. A blend of estate-grown Cabernet Sauvignon with small lots from other select Napa Valley vineyards, this entices with aromas of pipe tobacco, ripe red cherries, and of course Oakville’s signature cassis syrup essences. An incredible value given the neighborhood. 1WOCR12CS3 | $69.95 btl. $62.96 btl./mixed case ’14 Round Pond Estate

The MacDonnell family’s estate in Rutherford is on fire with wines like this barnburner. Billowing with aromas of blackberry, raspberry, anise, and dusty dark chocolate, this is a noble and concentrated Cabernet with many miles to go before it sleeps – put this in your cellar and taste the sunshine of the 2014 vintage for years to come. 1WRPO14CS3 | $59.95 btl. $53.96 btl./mixed case Cabernet Sauvignon • Rutherford

P RO P R I E TA RY R E D S a textural delight

’13 Buoncristiani “OPC”

Proprietary Red • Napa Valley

“Ol’ Pa’s Cuvee” has become Buoncristiani’s signature blend, reflecting four brothers’ passion for blending wines with concentration, power, and varietal character, while retaining balance and elegance. Fruit from several prized vineyards, including Hyde, Stagecoach, Hossfeld, and Bennett were harvested and fermented separately in small batches, then carefully blended in several phases during the second year of barrel aging. This 15th Anniversary bottling was aged in French oak barrels for 20 months. It’s a textural delight that will enhance just about every occasion. Ol’ Pa would be proud. 1WBUO13PR3O | $49.95 btl. $44.96 btl./mixed case ’13 Flux

Proprietary Red • California

From Mark Herold, of Merus fame, this is one super-sexy GSM blend, made up of 66% Grenache, 20% Syrah, and 14% Mourvèdre. Mark describes it best, saying “This is a “pin-up” wine. Intense, complex, full and supple. Dark strawberries, raspberries and cream, white pepper and cardamom pods all pulled together with the perfume of violets. The tannins play a supporting role and are silky and divine.” Amen! And at this price, you don’t need a special occasion. Only 99 boxes were produced! 1WFLU13PR3 | $21.95 btl. $19.76 btl./mixed case ’13 Hiatus “Apex”

Proprietary Red • Napa Valley

Take a little hiatus for a few hours and immerse yourself in this Cabernet-Merlot-Malbec blend, comprised of fruit from vineyards in the overachieving, south-valley zones of Coombsville and Oak Knoll. Malbec gives this deep, fathomless black fruit, the Merlot provides opulence, and the Cabernet contributes cassis, black cherry, grip and structure. Drink this now or give it a 10-year, uh, break, in the cellar. 1WHIA13PR3A | $99.95 btl. $89.96 btl./mixed case

Protégé Protégé is made by two longtime buddies and “garagistes,” Mathew Torres and Ryan Darrall, who have both paid their dues at wineries like Caymus and Trinchero. This is the young duo’s very first release and their expertise shows. ’14 Protégé

Red Wine •Napa Valley

Protégé Wines, Napa Valley

Comprised of 65% Syrah, 25% Petite Sirah, and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, this is a knockout, fruit-forward red blend that will appeal to your inner hedonist and harmonize beautifully with big bites of pulled pork. Jump on it… you simply won’t find this wine outside of Napa Valley! 1WPRO14RB3 | $29.95 btl. $26.96 btl./mixed case

PINOT NOIR the eternal heartbreaker

A Russian River Valley vineyard

’14 En Route “Les Pommiers”

’12 Art House Pinot Noir • Carneros

Wow! What a dramatic Pinot Noir from Art House, a project from John Bonick and Dona Kopol Bonick, two gifted artists who have forged successful careers in the Napa Valley. They describe their 2012 beautifully: “Earth, spice, pepper, anise, dried red flowers, cola, whiffs of pomegranate and deep black cherries – draped over firm and vibrant acidity.” We agree 100% – this supple Pinot is a handcrafted gem that you’re never going to find on a shelf in your neck of the woods! 1WAHO12PN3 | $57.95 btl. $52.16 btl./mixed case ’13 Broken Spur

Pinot Noir • Sonoma Coast

The cooling influence of the Pacific gives this wine a crystalline, crushed wild strawberry and herby red cherry perfume that is intoxicating. Then comes the wild thyme, redwood duff, mushroom, strawberry pulp, and baking spices. A gorgeous little Pinot for not a lot of dough. 1WBSP13PN3 | $29.95 btl. $26.96 btl./mixed case

Pinot Noir • Russian River Valley

A nine-year old project launched in 2007 by the partners in Napa’s Far Niente, En Route’s goal is to showcase the special qualities of Russian River Pinot Noir. “Les Pommiers” means “The Apple Trees,” and is an homage to the orchards that once covered the valley. Absolutely textbook with its deep, ripe red and black fruit personality, sappy and full-bodied to the core. This would be a great wine to use to introduce a Cabernet drinker to the addictive perfumes of Pinot Noir! 1WERO14PN3LP | $64.99 btl. (Net item - no discounts apply).

’14 Fess Parker “Pommard Clone” Pinot Noir • Sta. Rita Hills

Fess Parker’s portrayal of the frontiersmen Davy Crockett and Daniel Boone during the 1950s and 1960s garnered him a legion of adoring fans. Fess passed away in 2010, but his son Eli and winemaker Blair Fox made a brilliant Pinot exclusively from a single block of the “Pommard clone” of Pinot Noir in their “Ashley’s” vineyard. Pommard is known for intense deep black fruit aromas and a velvety texture. 1WFPA14PN3PC | $49.95 btl. $44.96 btl./mixed case

ITALY viva oenotria!

Ronchi Winery, Piedmont, Italy

’13 Feudo Maccari “Saia”

Nero d’Avola • Sicily

The wines of the sun-baked and gorgeous hills of southeastern Sicily continue to infatuate us. The wines seem imbued with more than their share of God-given sunshine. This plush Nero d’Avola boasts aromas of plums, spicy prunes, fresh and dried strawberry, accented by lovely balsam scents, just the perfect partner for a special wood-fired mushroom and soppressata pizza. 1WFMA13IR3S | $28.99 btl. (Net item - no discounts apply).

’09 Masi Serego Alighieri “Vaio Armaron” Amarone • Veneto

We are constantly on the lookout for Amarone that quickens our pulses, which happens surprisingly rarely – all too often the wines are too clunky, too volatile, or just flat for the tariff asked. This one knocked us out. Here come the black cherries poached in chocolate liqueur, toasted herbs, and cappuccino, all strewn on an elegant frame. Gorgeous Amarone! Not just ricco, but also molto suave! Pair this with something like sweet and sour short ribs, or blue cheeses after dinner. 1WMAS09IR3SAV | $89.99 btl.

’14 Rocca di Montegrossi

Chianti Classico • Tuscany

Marco RicasoliFiridolfi, descended from the first Prime Minister of Italy, owns and runs one of the finest estates in all of Tuscany: Rocca di Montegrossi, just south of Gaiole. With the help of renowned enologist Attilio Pagli, they shepherd the ancient San Marcellino vineyard toward greatness. So meaty, iron-rich, and soaked through with red cherry flavors, this Chianti Classico shows why this appellation represents one of the finest values, bar none, in all of Italy! 1WRMO14IR3CC | $27.95 btl. $25.16 btl./mixed case ’12 Ronchi “Ronchi”

Barbaresco •Piedmont

At last, a Barbaresco you don’t have to put away and forget about for 10 years! We love Ronchi’s [RON-kee’s] juicy drinkability, year after year. Aromas of crushed raspberries, red roses, violet pastilles, and spicy cherry lozenges have their fingerprints all over this one. If you’ve ever wondered what all the fuss is about with regard to Nebbiolo, start here and get acquainted with your new obsession. It’s a special value given its pedigree. 1WRON12IR3 | $44.99 btl. FRANCE a panoply of flavors

’15 Domaine Colonat “Les Thorins” Moulin-à-Vent • Beaujolais

We are, to put it mildly, CUCKOO for 2015 Beaujolais like the proverbial chocolate puff. The wines have thrilling ripeness and depth, and an electric, neon-magenta color that even looks dangerous. Then along comes this seductress, sourced from 70-year old vines from Colonat’s best vineyards. Succulent wild strawberries, black raspberries and Morello cherries make this irresistible, even before the precise and polished finish of spice and minerals. Age this or pound it now; either way, you WIN. 1WCOL15IR3LT | $34.95 btl. $31.46 btl./mixed case ’11 Château du Moulin Rouge Haut-Médoc • Bordeaux

Here’s a phenomenal Bordeaux value from the town of Cussac, which is on the Left Bank between Margaux and Saint Julien. Comprised of 50% Merlot, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 10% Cabernet Franc, from 35-year old vines, this has very expressive aromas of cassis, gravel, spice box, and leather. This is the perfect wine to warm your bones on a cold winter night, with a leg of lamb roasting away in the hearth, the way the Bordelais do it. 1WMRO11IR3 | $32.95 btl. $29.66 btl./mixed case

A French domaine in winter.

’12 Clos du Mont-Olivet “Font de Blanche” Côtes-du-Rhône

Clos du Mont Olivet is one of our favorite traditionalist producers in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, a large extended family just doing everything right. It helps to have ancient vines and a gifted winemaker, Thierry Sabon, making your wine. Bright garnet in the glass, sensual layers of black and blue fruits mingle with sappy cherries, lavender and a hint of spice to deliver one helluva wolf in sheep’s clothing. Grenache hounds, this one’s got your number. 1WCDM12IR3FB | $14.95 btl. $13.46 btl./mixed case ’14 Philippe Livera

Côte de Nuits-Villages • Burgundy

This deep, soulful Pinot Noir comes from 50 to 60-year old vines in the lieu-dit “Préau,” in Brochon, just to the north of Burgundy’s GevreyChambertin. That old-vine richness is why this one punches above its class, with a meaty-earthy left and a juicy, griottes-cherry right! 1WLIV14IR3CNV | $44.95 btl. $40.46 btl./mixed case Need help? WINTER REDS rib-stickin rossos!

Tim Milos Tim Milos makes all of our wines, from the Justice trio on down to Broken Spur. We know how talented he is, with an enviable CV featuring the likes of S. Anderson, Opus One, Rubissow, Girard, and Cliff Lede. We were thrilled when he received his first “100 Point” score of his career in 2016! Below are two of our Portfolio Selection reds made by Tim. ’12 Tin Star

Cabernet Sauvignon • Napa Valley

Tin Star is our proprietary Cabernet Sauvignon created from select lots of coveted fruit from around the Napa Valley (no we can’t tell you, and you probably wouldn’t believe us anyway). It’s good to have friends. Redolent of mocha, black cherries, and exotic spices, this is a thrill ride of a Cabernet for a great price. Cab of this quality is simply an endangered species at $50! 1WTST12CS3 | $49.95 btl. $44.96 btl./mixed case ’13 Waypoint “Somerston”

Cabernet Sauvignon • Napa Valley

Somerston Estate is a beautiful valley unto itself on Sage Canyon Road, between Lake Hennessey and Lake Berryessa, northeast of Rutherford and Pritchard Hill. Our Somerston Cabernet Sauvignon is gently structured with dusty, pleasantly earthy aromas overlaying deep blackberry and black cherry fruit. In 2013 this wine absolutely shines, and will age 15-20 years. 1WWAY13CS3S | $99.95 btl. $89.96 btl./mixed case

’14 J. Rickards “1908 Brignole”

Old Vine Zinfandel • Alexander Valley

Hold the phone. A Zinfandel from vines planted when Teddy Roosevelt was President? Check. Interplanted and co-fermented with Petite Sirah, Carignane, Mataro, and others, just like the old days? Check. Super-ripe olallieberry, raisin, blackcurrant, and dried cherry fruit? Oh yeah. The oldvine intensity in this Zinfandel must be tasted to be believed, and its floral quality is rare and special when you find it in Zinfandel. The Rickards folks put it best: “Darn fine barn wine!” 1WJRI14ZN3B | $24.95 btl. $22.46 btl./mixed case ’13 Mattes Sabran “Le Clos Redon” Corbières • Languedoc

Jean-Luc Brouillat is the owner and winemaker at this beautiful, organic Corbières property in France’s Languedoc, not far from the Mediterranean. 100% Syrah, this has a beautiful dark ruby color, and aromas of toasted, herby garrigue, black cherry, beef ’s blood, black pepper, and black plums. This will appeal to fans of Crozes-Hermitage and Cornas who like their Syrah with a little more sunshine in it, at about a third of the price. A grilled lamb chop with local tapenade is our dream pairing. 1WMSA13IR3CR | $19.95 btl. $17.96 btl./mixed case

WINTER WHITES cockle-warming nectars

’15 Albet i Noya “3 Macabeus de Can Mila” Catalonia

Organically farmed, from the plains of Spain’s Catalan country, this is from three, 43 to 56-year old plots of Macabeu [MOCKUH-buh]. Macabeu is known as Viura in Rioja country, and as Macabeo just over the border in France. This wine is all about waxy spiced apple, melon, and an almost Chenin-blanc-like lanolin quality accenting its ripe and full-bodied personality. It’s a terrific aperitif wine that will pair well with the likes of Manchego or a Spanish blue cheese. 1WANO15IW33M | $19.95 btl. $17.96 btl./mixed case ’15 Hubert Brochard “Tradition” Sancerre • Loire Valley

We fell hard for this superb Sauvignon Blanc from the warm, sunny 2015 vintage in the Loire Valley. White truffles, elderflowers, ripe green melons, and a splash of lemon make this such a treat to drink. Should you be lucky enough to procure some smoked steelhead, the pairing will blow your mind. 1WHBR15IW3T | $31.95 btl. $28.76 btl./mixed case ’15 Michel Rey “La Roche”

Mâcon-Vergisson • Burgundy

This is a fleshy, remarkable value from the Mâconnais, the part of Southern Burgundy where Chardonnay is all about golden delicious apples and Comice pears, with an herby, almost hoppy component to the aroma. These Chardonnay roots sink deep into the north side of the chalky massif known as the rock of Vergisson, giving the wine an unmistakable mineral tone and lime blossom character. 1WMRE15IW3LR | $27.95 btl. $25.16 btl./mixed case

’15 Sonoma-Loeb “Sangiacomo” Chardonnay • Sonoma County

We taste a lot of Chardonnay here, and we couldn’t resist this one, from the great Sangiacomo vineyard in Carneros. Buttery, focused, and succulent, this will rock the Chardonnay lover in your life. It’s also an unbeatable value, made by Phillip Corallo-Titus, one of the Napa Valley’s most experienced winegrowers. 1WSLO15CH3S | $27.95 btl. $25.16 btl./mixed case Need help?
