God’s Plan of Salvation - Good Friday’s Sermon Rev. Dr. Devon Dick “My God, my God why hast thou forsaken me?” (Matthew 27:46, Psalm 22:1) Rev. Dr. Devon Dick in presenting his message on Good Friday, April 6, on the topic God’s Plan of Salvation, made three main points based on the scripture verse, Matthew 27:46. One was that “Jesus is one of us”. He was a man of sorrow and grief, he was hungry, he wept, and he was tested and tempted. Rev. Dick explained that these words of Jesus showed that he had emotions. We can therefore be assured that Jesus can empathize with us, which is a great source of inspiration, hope and joy. The second point was that “Jesus is with us”. Rev. Dick stated that Jesus has lifted us up so that we can experience God to our fullest, and accomplish things in his name. We who are frail, fragile and foolish can be forgiven by God. Furthermore, we are reconciled with him to live the faithful life based on His plan of salvation for us to have eternal life. In making the third point that “Jesus is for us”, Rev. Dick affirmed that “God is on our side, he is not against us”. God wants us to live an abundant and quality life, so the future is not dark and gloomy. Referencing the story, found in 2 Samuel Chapter 9, of David and Mephibosheth the son of Jonathan, Rev. Dick pointed out that David did not forget or forsake him when he (David) became king; he understood Mephibosheth’s situation and provided for him. Likewise, God is looking out for our well-being, to bless us. He wants us to be royalty, to share in the feast, and to be blessed with spiritual blessings.
