STORIES OF THE J

BoulderJCC

1

We’ve been in our new building for just over 1 year, and what a year it’s been!

The JCC has become the cornerstone of my family’s involvement in the Boulder community. Not only has our daughter gone through the infant and toddler classes, but we have also met friends, been able to participate in amazing events, and have seen a spirit of camaraderie that we’ve found nowhere else. The JCC is not just an amazing facility, it is a community and a home. Chelsea Graffeo

ACE at the J has made our life in Boulder all the more rewarding. We particularly enjoy the cultural richness and diversity, and excellent quality, offered through the Music@theJ program. They have been able to present an enviable, ever-improving Boulder Jewish Film Festival each year and have done a wonderful job of expanding the cultural and educational experiences in our own new kvell-worthy JCC. The JCC has been an incredible place for our boys to grow and blossom. We couldn’t be happier with the warm, loving, and creative environment all of the teachers and staff provide for the kids. Through art, music, and trips to the farm the children learn to appreciate the beauty around them. The J also provides community for parents and a resource for Jewish education in Boulder. There is truly not a more wonderful place! Gretchen Zetoony

Our strongest connection to the J is through Milk and Honey farm. I feel nourished both by the programming and the fact that we can keep ongoing relationships with the families we’ve grown so close to over the years. I love having this continuing connection to the JCC for both me and my daughter. Amy Kopkin Atkins

The fresh, beautiful produce donated from Milk & Honey Farm allows us to serve nutritious, locally-grown food to approximately 1,200 individuals each week, which helps us fulfill our mission of providing healthy supplemental food to Boulder families and clients in need of food assistance. 260 260 women attended the 2nd annual Great Big Challah Bake

Women of the

The Great Big Challah Bake was the first Women of the J event that I attended after making the decision to move to Colorado. I was already familiar with the J, but walking into the room filled with hundreds of women was incredibly welcoming for me. The energy was infectious and everyone was so engaged. I know that often times it is hard to “break into” a new group but this is a great way for anyone to participate in a community event. Beth Blacker

The JCC Summer Day Camp gave me a bigger, more peripheral sight of how to work with other people in a group, especially in an important place like a company. I now know how to work with other people to solve problems, compromise on ideas, convince others to go with my idea, and much more. Overall, my experience was absolutely amazing. Alexander Zhang Camp Inc. Business Academy Camper, Summer 2017

Our experience with the JCC Cherryvale Day Camp was exceptional. Communication was clear and informative ahead of the session. Each morning, I felt confident dropping my boys off with a staff member who was genuinely excited to see my kids, was organized & professional, and created a (physically & socially) safe environment. When I picked up my kids each day they were glowing – smiles so big and bursting to tell me about all the fun activities they did. They improved skills, tried new things, and made new friends. We can’t wait for next summer!

I have grown with BJTI. As they are able to provide more programs, I have been able to take on additional responsibilities and leadership roles while learning professional skills along the way. I like that there is something for everyone. Everyone who wants to have a place has a place at BJTI.

It has been especially rewarding to help craft programs and events and see them grow year after year. It is great to have an outlet for Judaism outside of the synagogues. I can be myself, while developing real world skills in a Jewish context, with Jewish friends. Corinne Sweeney BJTI Advisory Board Member

The JCC has been a wonderful home for our annual fundraiser! The space is warm, inviting, and beautifully transforms to fit the theme of our events. Their staff is collaborative and fantastic to work with. The JCC has created a caring environment for our community to come together each year. With help from the JCC and their incredible venue, we will be able to support more families than ever during a medical crisis. Paula DuPrĂŠ Pesmen Founder and Executive Director There With Care

Over 1,200 people attended our Community Purim Carnival

My daughter suggested we join her at the 9Health Fair at the JCC. It took some work to convince me as I really thought I was fine. At the fair, I discovered I had moderate hearing loss and failed a breathing test. The doctors told me to go to the ER immediately, and to my surprise I had a serious lung infection. I feel better than ever - thanks to the amazing doctors and nurses who took the time to understand my personal health issues. I hope the volunteers and health professionals know, it is because of them that my family and I pursued a path to recovery and healing. I am so grateful for my daughter who suggested I go to the 9Health Fair, for the JCC for hosting it, and to all of the medical professionals who volunteered their time. The fair changed my life; in fact it saved my life. Hal Schoen

Building Community Through a Community Building

It is all here for the taking - the special people ready to befriend you, the activities you dream about finding, the community that gives you a sense of belonging. As a newcomer to Boulder, I found the Boulder JCC to be the most intimate and warm JCC I have ever encountered. Anna Fernbach
