ENDOVENOUS LASER ABLATION at Boston MA

Superficial venous varicosities are a common clinical entity that can be disabling and cosmetically unappealing for many patients. Venous varicosities range from minor Spider veins and Varicose veins to severe venous varicosities, each of which correlates to different treatment modalities.

The optimal treatment is dependent on the extent of superficial venous disease as well as the presence of deep venous valvar dysfunction. Dr. MUZZAMAL HABIB, MD at Boston Vein Care Boston MA efficiently describes and performs the ENDOVENOUS LASER ABLATION at his vein care center. Here is a brief introduction of Endovenous laser ablation treatment Boston MA. What is Endovenous Laser Ablation Treatment?

ENDOVENOUS LASER ABLATION (EVLA) is a procedure in which there is percutaneous insertion of a catheter that delivers thermal energy within the lumen of the vein. This thermal energy damages the endothelium and leads to occlusion and elimination of the incompetent truncal vein from circulation.

It is known that the laser thermal energy induces a “boiling blood effect within the vein lumen.

The laser-emitted wavelengths are absorbed by the hemoglobin of the red blood cells, leading to steam bubble creation within the vein lumen. This steam bubble creation is thought to induce conductive heat that results in irreversible damage to the vein wall at the catheter tip and for an extended length within the vein lumen. Procedure Details In ENDOVENOUS LASER ABLATION a sheath is placed in the vein, a .035-inch guide wire is then advanced to the vein under direct ultrasound guidance. A long sheath is then advanced over the wire and positioned below.

The laser catheter is then advanced over the wire to the end of the long sheath. The sheath is then pulled back to expose the laser tip and the entire long sheath is removed.

Ultrasound verification on the laser tip position is performed an additional time prior to activating the laser. The occlusion rate for ENDOVENOUS LASER ABLATION is excellent, on basis of most of experiences.
