CONNECTICUT 8th Annual Open Your Eyes Studio Tour

Craft Expo 2017 Presented by Guilford Art Center


Guilford, CT Guilford Art Center’s Craft Expo 2017 brings 180 fine American craft artists to the Guilford Green July 14–16. The show, in its 60th year, features handmade work in a variety of media, a silent auction of exhibitor donated crafts, live craft demos, food trucks and crafts for kids.

Books in Boothbay

A diverse group of writers attend, including winners of the Maine Literary Awards and children’s book authors. This free event includes readings, author talks and books for sale.

The Maine Art Museum Trail

Southern Maine Plan a road trip through Southern Maine this summer with the Maine Art Museum Trail. Beginning in Lewiston and winding 200 miles to Bangor (with a quick trip to Monhegan Island), this map from the Maine Office of Tourism passes eight museums housing 73,000 works of art. Many Maine artists are represented on the tour, from Winslow Homer to Louise Nevelson, and travelers will get to explore the landscape that inspired them all. Whether you follow the entire trail or visit one museum, you will experience Maine from a new perspective.

28 Pelham Street, Newport, RI (401) 846-2720 July 13–16 The 34th Annual Newport Black Ships Festival is celebrated in both Newport and Japanese sister city Shimoda to commemorate the first treaty between the United States and Japan, the 1854 Treaty of Kanagawa. The festival, hosted by the Japan American Society of Rhode Island, offers a chance to experience Japanese art and culture. Highlights include a tea ceremony, Taiko drum performance and calligraphy demonstration.

South Newfane, VT (802) 348-7440 July 15 & 16 The Rock River Artists are a collective of 15 professional artists who host an open studio event every July, welcoming the public to visit their studios, homes and gardens, and their unique Vermont settings. The self-guided Rock River Artists Tour begins at the South Newfane Schoolhouse, a historic 19th century one-room school, which is transformed into a lively gallery for the weekend, showcasing a sample of each artist’s work. Mediums include painting, drawing, collage, pottery, fabric and thread, ironwork, custom furniture, jewelry, and photography. The artists’ studios are also open by appointment all year.
