Architect Stanford White, commissioned by President Theodore Roosevelt to strip away the Victorian décor, asked Schumacher to design a shimmering satin lampas. Sixty years later, Jacqueline Kennedy again turned to Schumacher and swathed the walls of the Blue Room in White’s elegant lampas. The venerable house has reissued the fabric this year.
