LIGHT INSTALLATION GUIDELINES for AZEK Premier

Please read all instructions completely before starting any part of the installation. •

AZEK Lighting may not be suitable for every application and it is the sole responsibility of the installer to be sure that AZEK Lighting is used for its intended purpose. Since all installations are unique, it is also the installer’s responsibility to determine specific requirements in regards to each gate application.

Building codes vary by locale. Please consult all applicable codes before beginning project.

In the case of new deck construction be sure to read entire install guide to ensure proper planning for lighting prior to deck build.

Lighting shall not be installed within 10 feet (3 meters) of a pool, spa or fountain.

User must determine which posts will receive power based on rail lengths and trimmed LED strips for custom sized rails.

The AZEK gauge wire can be buried a maximum of 6” for routing under deck or other obstacles.

AZEK components and wire are designed for outdoor use and have been tested for system performance. AZEK cannot stand behind the product if non-AZEK wire or other components are substituted.

WARNING: Electric shock is always possible when working with electricity. This can cause serious personal injuries or death. Electrical shorts can also cause fires and property damage. Always make sure the electrical outlet you are plugging into is grounded.

Please contact your AZEK dealer to order additional lengths of wire for connection of the lighting.

The following are samples of lighting layout showing fixture placement and wiring routes. When laying out the wiring for your deck, keep the following in mind: The following illustrations show various methods for installing both lighted rail and/or lighted post caps.

Spider Layout The spider potentially requires easy access to the underside of a deck and thus is more likely in new installations. The transformer provided should not deliver more than 80% of its rated wattage. Calculate the total wattage of your layout using the following values. Villa Post Cap draws 0.53 watts, Island Post Cap draws 2.2 watts.

Example 1: A maximum of 12 lighted Island Post Caps can be powered using a 35 watt transformer. 35 watts x 80% = 28 watts. 28 watts ÷ 2.2 watts per cap = 12.72 or 12 caps. Example 2: A maximum of 52 lighted Villa Post Caps can be powered using a 35 watt transformer. 35 watts x 80% = 28 watts. 28 watts ÷ 0.53 watts per cap = 52.83 or 52 caps. 12 Gauge Wire

Example 2: A maximum of 52 lighted Villa Post Caps can be powered using a 35 watt transformer. 35 watts x 80% = 28 watts. 28 watts ÷ 0.53 watts per cap = 52.83 or 52 caps. Requirement: Each powered 12 ga. wire from the transformer can drive a maximum of (10) lighted Post Caps. 12 Gauge Wire

The transformer provided should not deliver more than 80% of its rated wattage. 80% of 200 Watt = 160 Watts max. Calculate the total wattage of your layout using the following value. LED strip draws 1.5 watts per foot. NOTE: Each 12Ga Power line can drive no more than 24’ of chained LED strips (four 6’ or three 8’ segments) Maximum of 106’ of LED strips total can be powered by the supplied 200 watt transformer, when not combined with lighted Post Caps.

Calculate the total wattage of your layout using the following values. Villa Post Cap draws 0.53 watts, Island Post Cap draws 2.2, LED strip draws 1.5 watts foot. 80% of 200 Watt = 160 Watts max and 80% of 35 Watt = 28 Watts.

Example: 10 Villa Post Caps and x feet of rail desired. 10 x 0.53= 5.3 Watts 160 Watts-5.3= 154.7 watts available for LED Strip. 154.7 ÷ 1.5 = 103 feet potential lighted rail.

Preparing for LED Strip Installation Measure up 34” for a 36” tall rail or 40” for a 42” tall rail from surface of deck on all posts that require drilling. Mark a spot on the post’s centerline.

TIP: 1. For ease of wiring route slot to corner away from power cable. 2. Start router at drill hole.

Measure between posts under top rail and subtract a total of 1 3/4” to account for both valance covers. This measurement equals total length of extrusion needed.

NOTE: Install rail sections per railing installation guide.

Preparing for LED Strip Installation Select 6’ or 8’ LED strip as appropriate to the length of rail being used. Feed lead wires through hole in post and fish wires to post top with wire snake.

Preparing for LED Strip Installation Mark hole and pre drill with 1/16” bit for valance screw. Gently pull LED strip to be flush with the rail and install valance using #6 1/2” long screw.

Install valance on opposite post using #6 1/2 long screw.

Mark hole and pre drill with 1/16” bit for valance screw.

Install or re-install screws to attach handrail to retainer rail using 1” screws from rail kit

Trim excess LED strip at correct marked location. NOTE: Ensure no LED’s are outside of extrusion. It is OK to cut strip one set of LED’s shorter than required if an LED lands outside of extrusion.
